How did you get introduced to Bitcoin?

My first introduction to Bitcoin:

Before Bitcoin, I was introduced to a coin called Stellar.
(I got a marketing project from a freelancer market in 2014 that was for a website called Stellar) and in 2014, if you opened a Stellar account and verified it on Facebook, you would get around 7000 to 10000 Stellar coins for free.

At that time, I knew about an exchange site called ‘JustCoin’, where Bitcoin could be obtained/converted in exchange for Stellar coins, and that is where I first heard the name Bitcoin.
As far as I remember, when I first started selling Bitcoin as a seller, the price of Bitcoin was around $300 to $400 and my first buyer was an Australian citizen (LocalBitcoin user), who made a transaction of just $10!

Mine was through a scammer on a social media.

I knew he or she was a scammer. She told me to send her 4 $50 gift cards. Showing me fake nudes which I knew it was a scam attempt and fake. When she noticed I did not send it, she later told me to go to bitcoin ATM machine to send her the $200 instead. I was only prolonging the matter, but she later understood and stop chatting with me.

When she told me to send bitcoin, I knew bitcoin is money. I search how to make bitcoin online. I saw faucets, pay-to-click, freelance, Bitcointalk and others on a now dead exchange article. The exchange was Paxful.

I earned my first bitcoin through posting. Although, this is not the whole story, but I want to make it short.

The surprising thing is that I saw bitcoin used for paying for games in 2012 when my dad got me my first laptop, but my brain did not wake up to know that bitcoin was money at the time, or maybe I did not know it is a store of value at the time.

I wasn't introduced by anyone, strictly talking, but I read about SR in a forum and, as a result of the curiosity generated by the secrecy around what they were talking about, I investigated a little more what that was and from there I got to know Bitcoin. But I didn't really take an interest in it until much later, because at first I thought it was shady money, and because the media didn't help either convincing me of the contrary. It wasn't until I learned about this forum that I was able to inform myself properly and changed my mind, although much later than I would have liked.

It can be introduced to people by good words about Bitcoin or complaints about Bitcoin. Whatever reason, if it is motivating enough for curiosity, people will do their action to learn more about Bitcoin.

Like theymos, the admin knew about Bitcoin with this way.
Someone complained about Bitcoin, and theymos curiously wanted to know about Bitcoin and that issue.

How did you came to know about Bitcoin first ?

I saw someone mention it on 4chan. They were complaining about the long block download time.

OP from the way you sound here seems you are an OG but you actually did not take it up seriously but you already had knowledge about bitcoin long ago which if you had picked interest in it, you could have earned a placed in the industry but notwithstanding, you are still an OG irrespective of your rank here and I respect you for that.

I have also read the stories of other OGs here on this thread and I am amazed how far they have gone and till this moment, they are standing tall in the industry. I wish I knew about bitcoin early enough, I could have been amongst the early adopters of it.

This happened to me also!!
When I heard the name Bitcoin in 2014 (when the price was $400), I thought it was an online point that helps in transactions through technology,
But in 2017 I gained complete knowledge about Bitcoin!
When the price was above $12,000) there was nothing to do but regret.

In fact, it is more important to gain basic knowledge than just being familiar with a subject!
So just being familiar is not enough! If you fail to gain knowledge on that subject at the right time, then you will regret it like us.

So, when you learn something new, think about the subject and learn about it! There are many opportunities that can change your life!
For those of us who learned about Bitcoin in 2014 or even earlier, we don't know if such an opportunity will come again in our life!!?

I heard about bitcoin as far back as 2012 and I was encouraged by a brother who lived in UK to buy some bitcoin. I was a student then, but I could not buy any bitcoin because there was a rise in Ponzi schemes in my country then. Can you imagine that 8 years after first hearing about bitcoin, I didn't pick interest or invest in it until 2021, when I was scammed and I made payment through bitcoin. That was my first time using bitcoin and it ended up as a scam.

Well, I was sad and had a good reason to hate bitcoin for life. But on a second thought I had to investigate the system that I used to make payment which they said doesn't have an office or where to complain. It was then I understood what bitcoin was and other cryptocurrencies. I then invested in some altcoins which didn't survive, until I was introduced in this forum.

I was introduced to Bitcoin by one of my friend in university. It was not that I had not been hearing about Bitcoin; I had been hearing about Bitcoin for more than four years before I was later introduced to it. But the painful thing is that, in all those four years I was hearing about Bitcoin, I never once tried to read about it or do my own research. I just knew that there was a digital coin called Bitcoin.Then I met a friend who told me more about Bitcoin. Although I didn’t want to listen at that point, I later decided to do my own research just to understand it and argue against everything he was telling me. But in the end, I found out that everything he said was right.So, that was how I started asking him for more guidance on how I could get Bitcoin and start investing. He guided me very well because he taught me how to identify some scammers’ tactics at that time. Because of him, I can say that I have never fallen for any scam up till now.I am still grateful to him because he is also the same person who introduced me to the forum where I could learn more.

That made me use my first wallet ever Trust wallet and my first cryptocurrency Ethereum
Ironic how I don't use the former nor have the latter.
Our belief then was Bitcoin was too expensive and that halving means they would cut down the price of Bitcoin in half.

I have been familiar with the word Bitcoin for a long time, but that is just a word. I got acquainted with Bitcoin only after joining the forum. I read a local report around 2017-2018 that some university students were involved in illegal Bitcoin mining using the electricity of their dormitories, due to which they were subjected to severe punishment. Although at that time Bitcoin mining was not completely illegal in my country, basically they were mining Bitcoin using electricity illegally. Back then, they had smart phones and were already using them during school, so seeing them do (bitcoin/crypto) things really inspired me. I didn’t understand anything about (bitcoin/crypto/) at that time, I was just watching them use it. Later on, I started trying it out myself little by little when I had the chance. i have heard about bitcoin for a very long time ago when bitcoin was not expensive far back 2012 but i never gave it a thought because even if i was interested i would still not invest because i was still under parental care, and they wouldn't give me any money to invest anyway. after many years of hearing about bitcoin, it was around 2020 or something 2021 when bitcoin has a massive pump that i have to hear about it again. i picked interest till i find myself here in this forum around 2023. but the person who first introduced me to it was my co-worker who was into cryptocurrency but another of my friend introduced me to the forum where i have to learn all i need to learn about bitcoin.

I didn't partake in that claim when they're giving away a lot of it although that's not from 2014. I think they just did another round of it maybe after a couple of years.

So, many have been introduced through words of mouths from our friends.

Like most people, I was first attracted to Bitcoin because of its price increase. For several years, I thought Bitcoin was just “crypto” a scheme for quick profits, trading, and just one crypto among many others.

 By chance, someone recommended The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous, and that was the moment when things finally clicked for me. Only then did I truly start learning about Bitcoin, even though I had already spent four years in crypto.

After that, I went deeper and deeper. I started reading books like Broken Money by Lyn Alden, then gradually discovered Parker Lewis, The Bullish Case for Bitcoin, The Fiat Standard, and books from the Austrian school of economics.

As time passed, I became more and more fascinated by Bitcoin. I kept reading, learning, and understanding it on a deeper level. The more I studied, the clearer it became that Bitcoin is not just another crypto it is something completely different.


Unfortunately, many people stay stuck in the “crypto phase” forever.You have to read and study Bitcoin if you want to truly understand it. Bitcoin is not just crypto, and it is not just technology.

Bitcoin was seen, as it was actually created, as a medium of exchange free from the traditional financial system.

Regarding how I learned about Bitcoin, very briefly, around 2013 I heard that someone had invented a new form of money that was ideal for online purchases.
I started investigating, and I found this forum and other websites on the subject, which I liked.

It has gradually happened but because time basically flies very fast, people can feel like Bitcoin as a store of value was designed at the start. In fact like you said, Bitcoin was not initially created as a store of value but like gold, far in the past, it was not a store of value too because any assets will need very long time and challenge of societies and time to prove that it deserves to be used as a store of value.

So far, it's enough challenge and a long time to consider that Bitcoin already passed the Store of Value Test very successfully, and likely a fastest ever in human civilization history. There has been no other precedent store of value assets that were accepted fastly during more than one decade like Bitcoin.

It was so long ago that I've already forgotten a bit.
I remember hearing about bitcoin for the first time from 1 friend around 2013 but at that time I was more focused on other things and didn't react right away.
Later I heard about bitcoin from a few other friends, and I decided to find out more so I joined this forum.
I remember how excited we all were about bitcoin and the possibilities it opened up, although at that time, I think very few of us really thought that the btc price would reach its current levels.
This was definitely one of my best decisions.

As per Daniel91 above I think it was around 2014/2015 when I first heard about Bitcoin but it was Christmas 2016
when I got in.

I knew about Bitcoin before that but was very sceptible about the whole thing because I didnt really investigate
it for myself, I was listening to others.

At the end of 2016 when the market was moving up after the previous halving [AKA: 4 year cycle] it came to my
attention. Already the market had been moving close to $1000 so I decided to get my first $100 worth onto my
friends wallet. I quickly obtained my first Trezor and got those funds transfered to my Trezor.

Of course I couldnt look too far into the future and realise what potential Bitcoin had.

I don't remember exactly how I was first introduced to Bitcoin, but I do remember that I first heard the name "Bitcoin" around 2015, or 2016.

I heard about it in a few Facebook groups, and some of my friends also learned about it at that time. As far as I can remember, I only started learning about, and learning the basics of Bitcoin before Ethereum switched to proof of stake. Because, I remember around that time, I also started learning about mining, and I started getting more involved in crypto discussions. Honestly, I have gained more insight into Bitcoin since visiting this forum, and I found so much important information related to Bitcoin here. So, I think my odyssey in Bitcoin began in this forum, learning more about Bitcoin, and I feel more introduced since then.
