Blue wallet app reset automatically

I don’t know if I’m the only one this has happened to but Today I tried to use one of my Hot wallet which is no other than Blue wallet and I noticed all my wallet was no where to be found on the wallet.

 The app now has a freshly created new wallet with 0 balance..  I didn’t update my device nor the wallet itself .. although I downloaded some apps to prevent throttling from my ISP , that’s all .

The wallet had a plausible deniability set up  but now It doesn’t show any login screen at all.
Is this a bug or ..

Blue wallet works well for me, only a few times where synchronization gets slow.. it happens once in while and when it does I get stucked with a zero balance wallet and some of my transaction history missing..but I feel it might be as a result of bad network connection. If you have your seedphrase then you can uninstall it and download the latest version from their official site or app store. Just reimport your keys again..

I just checked now and my own on similar OS works perfectly fine for me, all wallet are actually fine. Although my wallet is V 7.0.9 but just like Hatchy I have experienced synchronization issue more often. What I usually do is that I force reload it by dragging the it from the top to sync and I usually get everything back normally. Probably again you can switch servers to and then re synchronize again. I don’t think it’s a bug.

Here is dedicated thread for BlueWallet, you can look up there. Maybe similar problem has been discussed there.

Also if you have your back up then simply redownload the wallet and import back recovery phases again

What i experienced wasn’t even close to synchronization issue, i do get that too attimes but it mostly get resolved by just restarting.. I have more than one wallet on it, it was upto 4or 5 but I wasn’t using some and didn’t back it up either.

There’s no way I deleted those apps one by one and I’m sure  I didn’t offload it for redownloading so I’m not really sure how it’s all gone all of a sudden.

I have Bluewallet installed on my device and it is working perfectly here also. It is very possible this has to do with the device that you are using.

You should not be worried if those seed phrase you did not backup have no bitcoin in its addreses, although it is not good to delete any wallet. But your seed phrase is your wallet. You are an experienced person, I will not post more than this.

If the problem here is affecting not only BlueWallet but also other apps which got deleted then this isn’t a BlueWallet issue then probably your device problem. As for IPhones the only problem I can think of is when you enabled the offload unused apps and this then deletes the apps data or rather clears the cache when the device is low on memory. But you said you didn’t do any of that so it’s confusing seriously, because I haven’t experienced this before

I thought he meant he did not backup some of the wallets that he is not using among the ones he created because they are not funded. I do have wallets like that which I will not backup and not use, but the ones that I funded, I make sure I do the backups first before sending bitcoin there.

Edit:
I think some make this complaint few months ago. I will try to look for it. I think he said he reinstalled the wallet and the coins showed. Do not take this as an advise because I can be completely wrong about it.

Another thing is that most of us that have posted here might be using Android and not iPhone.

Yes the wallet it was created for just some random test (not a serious one that needs backup because I never used the address nor give it out) but i didn’t delete them I just left it there .. I have other wallets which i backed up but never received any funds on it.  I only mentioned it to rule out any assumption of mistakenly deleting the wallet itself..

Didn’t enable the offload thingy, I didn’t  clear cache and that shouldn’t affect the storage encryption even if I cleared only cache . I have other Apps like unstoppable, nothing happened to it.

All good here with my wallets, iOS. I think we would see many more reports about this if it was a chronic problem.

I haven’t had any issues at all with this wallet on the iPhone I use.
I’ve also checked the BlueWallet GitHub repository, and there’s nothing there that matches the issue you described. It’s possible that the problem you’re experiencing isn’t with BlueWallet but with the device you’re using.
You’re right—try uninstalling the app and reinstalling it if you have a backup.

That's a really funny coincidence. Just yesterday, one of my wallets (not Blue Wallet) did the exact same thing. When I opened the app, it prompted me to "Create new wallet" or "Restore existing wallet" as if I'd never used it before. At first, I figured I must have accidentally hit the reset button, since I actually was in the settings menu where that option is located the last time I used it.

But then I come here and see this thread. Now I'm starting to second-guess myself: what if I didn't reset it after all? After all, no decent wallet would have a one-click reset. A proper wallet would always ask for confirmation for such a critical action, specifically to prevent accidental clicks.

I wonder if this really is just a coincidence, or if anyone else reading this will admit they ran into the same thing yesterday?

Are you using an iPhone too? If yes then what version? What’s the wallet name, incase they have something in common. 

I can’t be that forgetful to the extent of not remembering to have cleared my entire wallet one by one because every step will have a confirmation..

The only possibility I could think of is the decoy wallet replacing the main storage because it got cleared or a bug that’s stopping the wallet from displaying a log in page ..

Unfortunately I didn’t save my decoy wallet seed to compare but the current one seem new because it’s asking me if I saved the seed before I can check the address .. weird part is that I didn’t create the wallet myself.

It occurs to me that it could be an app you recently installed that deleted BlueWallet data on your device, forcing the app to create a new wallet by default.
Some device cleaning apps might corrupt files by accidentally deleting important information from other apps. It could also be a connection problem, since you mentioned installing an app to monitor data usage.

Systems tend to fail; sooner or later they do, and there are many reasons that may not even be related to the app in question. An external change can cause failures. That's why it's always vital to have backups of the seed phrase.

While in BlueWallet, if its data (not cache) is totally cleared, it should start without any wallet at all.
Just a blank wallet card with "Add a wallet" prompt.

Or do you mean you created that wallet after the wipe?

No, I'm on Android. And my wallet has absolutely nothing to do with Blue Wallet. It's a Lendasat wallet. The only things they have in common are the symptoms and the date they appeared. And it's surprising that they appeared at all. I've never encountered anything like this before.

By the way, I have Blue Wallet too. And nothing was reset in it.

So Blue Wallet is a Bitcoin-only wallet, so why not use Electrum Wallet instead? I am not saying that blue wallet has a problem, it's a good one too, and i am using it on my phone to have a view-only wallet while my Electrum wallet is stored on my computer. I think that's a better setup and it provides a bit of security too in case the phones get lost.
Also it always important to save the seed phrase on paper, so in case the wallets reset or uninstalls, we can always recover our coins.

I didn't really click with Electrum. I rarely use on-chain transactions, mostly dealing with the Lightning Network. And the problem is that Electrum doesn't support transferring open channels from one device to another. If I switch phones, I have to close the channels and reopen them from scratch. That's why I actually prefer Valet.

Blue Wallet is convenient because you can import many different addresses, private keys, and seed phrases to track all your on-chain coins in one place. Plus, you get notifications if your Lightning channels are closed.

See electrum wallet is my go-to wallet in terms of bitcoin only wallet, but let’s be clear in terms of mobile version of the wallet, if not that recent updates are been added to the wallet BlueWallet on mobile version has more superior features than electrum wallet and it’s compatible with electrum wallet and this the reason why it is usually used ahead of mobile version electrum wallet.

Although electrum mobile wallet is actually adding more features it still isn’t having any support for IOS devices and that’s why you see OP and even people like me use BlueWallet.

Ohh.. that changes things a bit.
Experiencing this also surprised me because all this happened not too long  after I spent some tiny amount of BTC from the wallet I imported on it.

No, I didn’t create any wallet.. All I found was a new wallet all of a sudden.

The reason I think it might be the decoy wallet is because I never used it, so there’s also a possibility it would ask me to save the seed before copying any address, just like the current one did when I tried to check the addresses.

But I didn’t save the old seed, so I can’t verify it with the current one. Still, it’s weird that the login page isn’t showing up at all, even if that’s what’s going on..


Yesterday, I ran a series of tests to see if I would be able to recreate it..

First test: 
I deleted the wallet and downloaded a clean one, but before doing that, I offloaded the app.. Next, I created two new wallets and turned on plausible deniability, along with a new decoy wallet. Then, I tried to remove the password, and that led to a confirmation page and another page to type my password [This password has to be the current storage you logged into.]. There’s no way I wouldn’t have remembered doing the two if I truly did.

Doing this can actually retain only the particular storage, which also raises a concern about whether turning off the password should be allowed outside the storage it was initially turned on from.. Even if it should, why not allow users to type the particular storage they want to retain? Because you can literally create as many encrypted storages as possible with plausible deniability and turning it off from a particular storage just wipes everything 

Second test: 
Since the first test didn’t work, I went further by offloading and deleting the app. I didn’t turn off any settings, and I created two encrypted storages before doing that…

After redownloading, everything was still intact.
I retried the test again, but this time without offloading, and all the data was gone. It started afresh with a button to “Add new wallet,” which means I didn’t actually delete the app .

My conclusion is that it’s still either a bug that cleared my main storage or some external interference.

Anyway, I reset my device.. I’ll keep a close watch in case this repeats itself.
