I am just having this thought in my head about solo mining. Why are people who are buying Bitcoin solo miners not looking into something else?
I accept that Bitcoin is king, but we have very good coins that are easier to solo mine than Bitcoin.
Litecoin, Dogecoin, Monero, Bitcoin cash.
Why isn't anyone directing their miners to solo mine them? Since solving a block on them is highly likely compared to trying to solve a block on Bitcoin.

Although the probability of finding a block in the Litecoin, Dogecoin, or Bitcoin Cash networks is higher than in Bitcoin, the reward in altcoins is still very small compared to Bitcoin.
The market for solo altcoin mining hardware is virtually nonexistent, with the exception of Bitcoin Cash, which uses the same algorithm as Bitcoin.

The other question you should be asking is why altcoin mining is not as popular as Bitcoin mining, especially after ETH stopped POW in favour of POS. For example why are we not hearing people buzz about Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, ETHW, etc.? The answer is pretty simple... the profits are not that exciting. So same logic can apply to solo miners

If you are talking about something like NerdMiner or Bitaxe, I think people are just hoping they get lucky enough to find a block eventually. You might have better chances of mining a block on low powered hardware if you were solo mining altcoins, but the returns would be very small. The returns, on average, are probably not any better with Bitcoin, but this is seen as a lottery ticket. These miners don’t necessarily expect to make a profit; it still might be worth it to them to take a chance.

Because you cannot find blocks via solo mining. You have to use pools in order to maximise your profit.

The coins mentioned here still have pretty high difficulty tho, solo mining LTC or BCH is almost as crazy as BTC just with a smaller jackpot lol. Where it gets interesting is on small GPU coins like KawPoW stuff where the network hashrate is super low, you can actually find blocks with one or two GPUs without waiting 500 years But yeah like FP91G said the reward is worth nothing unless the coin takes off someday so its kind of a gamble either way

Ethereum Classic and ETHW are dying coins. Even if you find a few blocks solo on these coins, the profit will be so minimal that you won't have much to celebrate. I don't think a miner will solo mine Ethereum Classic to get a $30 reward, and the reward for ETHW is very small.

Another altcoin carrying a Bitcoin name. And we know what happens to all other coins that carry the Bitcoin name, don't we? No project can ever be a better version of the original it tries to copy. If someone wants a renewed feel of Bitcoin's early days, why wouldn't they just mine on the Bitcoin testnet?

I think he is promoting his own creation, as I also received a PM from him with similar content. He thinks that I'm going to fall to this other Bitcoin clone. Even if I am mining, I am not going to risk switching to an unknown coin because I could end up paying my bill with a huge loss. Unless the developers of this coin are going to list it on big exchanges like Binance and OKX and the profitability is 5x or 10x higher than mining Bitcoin. I'd be happy to switch my solo miner to this coin, but it's not even listed on any exchanges. There is one coin called BTCC in Coingecko, but it is an exchange with the same name.

Only the mentally ill would use ltc to doge to solo mine unless you are merge mining them.
Ie every doge solo pool I found won't pay me the ltc if I am high enough value share to hit it.
and every ltc solo pool I know does not let me collect on a doge block
if my share is high enough to hit it.
So I mine non solo at viabtc and get doge and ltc as they let me merge mine both.
If anyone knows of a true legit merge mine doge + ltc for solo let me know
via dm
My L9 turns a profit merge mining both coins.
But I would like to do solo if there was a pool that paid both ltc and doge.
I mine 77 doge a day so in 130 days I would mine 10010 coins or a block I mine 0.021 LTC a day so in 155 days I would mine 3.25 ltc
thus if would be okay to solo mine with my L9 if there was a pool that let me do both at the same time.
if not I just do viabtc pps+ and make about 97 dollars a month on mining
as I pay 213 in power earn 269 usd in doge and 37 usd in ltc total earned is 306 usd -213 power = 97 bucks a month.

Which means he has sent out a couple of those unsolicited PMs to other members too. he is most likely going to be banned if the messages are reported to the administrators. People are done mining enough shitcoins; i don't think they can fall for this, especially when it's listed nowhere. Worse still, the coin has no use case or uniqueness. It's just the same recycled garbage over and over again, which means even if it was listed in any exchange, the price would just keep going lower and lower until nobody was interested in trading it

If someone wants a renewed feel of Bitcoin's early days, why wouldn't they just mine on the Bitcoin testnet? That's the dilemma of mining alts especially with btc name attached to it. Even if you can mine it so easily, would be hard to sell in the trading market as the liquidity is quite low. Or they haven't been traded yet. And even if you mine, you have no assurance that it will hit in the trading market.

True. For mature coins like DOGE/LTC, mining is already very competitive, and profit depends on pool rules, merge mining, electricity cost, and hardware efficiency. That’s why early-stage PoW projects are worth watching. When the network is still young, difficulty is lower, and early miners can get much better results if the project has real technology, active development, and a clear use case. Old networks are safer but crowded. New PoW networks are riskier, but the early entry can be much more productive.
