It's not overthinking, it's the numbers that maybe he is looking and maybe see if he can find that one good bet. But I do agree that there is still luck. This factor are intangible and can't be measured as there are no numbers.

That's why for me it we see that one bet we consider, then just stick to it and see how it goes. We don't have to like overthink and see a lot of data and when that data contradicts itself, it's very hard to make that decision on what is to bet.

The stats and the history of the matches are what support us in making a decision on our future bets. We rely on the previous matches so that we can arrive at a similar situation on our future bets, which is why I do not blame our losses if we tend to overthink. In sports betting, data and information are key which separates us from winning to losing. Even if we somehow overthink our bets and managed to lose on the subsequent rounds, still, we rely on credible and complete information that were available to us.

That is exactly the reason on why I do not blame us for such losses because we based our decision on credible and genuine data; not to some random person or information that were given to us without any thought.

Expecting to win is not bad, it is not wrong, even everyone gambles with the expectation of winning. But the main difference here is only between a responsible and an irresponsible gambler. Personally, I gamble, and place my bets based on stats, and not based on odds. When you look at odds, and make your gambling decision, you may not be able to know the teams form or standing in a particular league, you may not know if major players will not enroll in that very match, and by the time you select games without understanding these facts failure will come very easily. I agree with you, in gambling all caution is necessary, even in games of chance that depend on skill, such as sports betting and card games. I've seen wealthy people who became addicted lose everything they had in land-based casinos. This is because they became too confident that they could beat the house, lost control of the amount they bet in each round, incurred debts, and still lost.
