That's something that's not common to happen unless it's in a situation where someone who you have transacted with previously still has your wallet and mistakes it for that of another to send you coin by mistake.

People who likely receive coins unexpectedly are hackers who have set a trap for that, like those who have programmed the clipboard virus. As for you sending coin back, we need to wait until that happens to see if the desire and love for money will let you return it.

Sending bitcoin to wrong address is possible but only if the address is actually correct that’s has a valid checksum. That’s why randomly guessing an address is usually not going to work or probably if the sender changes one character from the intending recipient address unlike bank accounts which will send it to that account the address must have valid checksum before this happens and it’s the reason why you don’t see random wallet Recieving bitcoin mistakenly, while it’s possible the chances aren’t that high.

The usual mistake is when the sender mistakenly copy’s a valid address wrong from somewhere and send bitcoin to, otherwise you cannot receive bitcoin by accident.

Did you even bother to try and search similar topics before you posted yours?

Someone have sent me btc by accident i think
Might have sent bitcoin to someone by accident

Why do you think this could happen by accident? It's not likely to happen accidently, because why would someone know one of your addresses unless you publish them and then still the sender must screw up badly (or intentionally, our of mercy, lol?).

I've never received BTC by accident; in fact, I was the one who accidentally sent BTC. The only problem is that I sent them to an address I had recently copied at random from the blockchain.com transaction history.
Nobody contacted me, so it's completely lost, and only the owner of that random address has control over the BTC I sent. Because of the nature of BTC, once confirmed, the transaction cannot be reversed.

In the past, I expected someone to accidentally send me a BTC, but until now no one attempted. So it's impossible; some users may receive BTC by accident, but in my experience, I've never received it, not even on my old wallets.

Maybe if I receive a huge amount of BTC, I will send it back if someone is looking for it, but if not, I'm going to hold it until 2050.

Not specifically, but with a similar experience with altcoins. It was stressful for a while because some of my friends (jokingly) suggested I just disappear, as it was a lot of money compared to the per capita income in my country. Hahaa...
Luckily, the temptation passed, and the owner managed to find me, and I verified several things before confirming the money was sent to the rightful owner. On the one hand, returning crypto from an unknown sender is a source of pride, but on the other hand, it's a hassle and risky.

Did somebody ever received a BTC amount by accident ... This is a stupid question with the developpement of Technology ... But who nows I mean did someone received it previously  ...personally i swear god that i will send it back Smiley that is the right thing to do Wink Wink .............

This has happened quite a number of times and there are generous individuals who see no reason resending to owners keeping their integrity. Even companies do the same, a common example is when a user sends way too much excessive fee amount and the mining pool win the block plus the fee.

After discovering this they post publicly while either trying to reach out to the sender or the one who received it and then both in order for the resend to be fone.

It hardly before you can someone that send Bitcoin to wrong address...And if you mistakenly send Bitcoin wrong address it may enter to unknown address, which will make Bitcoin to remain there forever...Secondly if you mistakenly send Bitcoin wrong address, it will be difficult to know the rightful owner for the address were the Bitcoin is been sent...so saying that you send back to the person, is right only if you can find out the owner...

You wouldn’t know that until you’re put in that position where you would receive over 1BTC and would be required to send it back. It might seem like something you can do now and I don’t expect a lot of folks to doubt that but, greed can be some tool against your good conscience which can get you at its best.

Still, yeah there are those that have received some Bitcoin that they didn’t deserve or at least thought so. It’s happened here on the forum for some users in campaigns. Of course a lot of those incidents are noted and balanced off with the managers while others are self reported by the beneficiaries and balanced off too.

Either way, these things do happen and there is nothing strange about it but, you find people doing the right thing more often than not, on the forum.

Well, I've personally never received any BTC amount by accident and I believe most other members will say the same. However, in past there have been some cases where wallets received Bitcoin amount by accident. Now, it depends on the user who receives such high amount, someone who has scammer mindset will keep the money and withdraw it while others who don't want to steal from someone else will try every possible way to return the amount back to the sender, and that can be done by sending the money back to the wallet where it came from.

Yes, I have received bitcoin before that was not supposed to be sent to me. Luckily it was someone that I know that sent it. We had a deal recently at the time and he mistakenly copied my bitcoin address again few minutes later and sent me the coin he supposed to send to someone else. It was good that he made a mistake that did not cost him, but which he learned from.

It would have still being an issue if the person is someone who normally deals with lots of transactions since their is actually no specific name tag or means of verifying a particular address belongs to a particular person, I guess in your case he was still fresh in his memory to actually pin point the address back to you.

Most of my older Wallets have some dust.  Other than that, no.  And if I ever do, I would do my best to try and retrieve it.

If someone doesn't have your address pasted elswhere, you will never receive bitcoin by accident because it is impossible to guess the full address symbols. It is commun to happen that someone send to the wrong address if this what you actually mean ny "by accident". I remember see cases from here in the forum. Otherwise, it is unlikely tgat your device is compromised and the hacker succeeds to put his own address instead of the one you want to add as recieving address.

In one of the funniest cases, the french copy of the Electrum wallet that has a btc donation address included in one of the versions. Someone has succeeded to send btc to that address by mistake as he wasn't intended to donate. If I can remember it right, he was a newbie trying to paste another address.

Me!
Many times!
In my (hot Grin ) dreams!
Then I just wake up, get a coffee and look my wallet starving...
LOL Grin
Of course this could really happens (and even on the forum we have seen this). It's really sad don't give funds back to sender in case there is a mistake for sure.

I haven't received any amount of Bitcoin from somebody I don't know or that's not expected. What I experienced so far was receiving an amount bigger than what I was supposed to receive. I didn't send it back, but I informed him about the excess, and the amount was deducted from the next transaction.

But I daydreamed about lost Bitcoin ending up in my wallet countless of times. In a way, it's a bad thought because the wish is for free money to just arrive. The right thing to do if it happens, of course, is to send it back.

I doubt that happen since everybody is using QR codes these days and care enough to recheck sender addresses, the most likely thing you might receive is btc from dusting attack.
I never ever received BTC amount by accident in my life. However, since it's an accident, of course there's recorded history of that happened to some people over the decades.

Personally, i have never received BTC by accident, or from unknown sender. Though I’ve read here and even heard complains from couple of friends that have experienced either sending to a wrong address or receiving from unknown sender.

This is possible because they just copy the address from a previous transaction without identifying to check who actually owns the address before confirming the transaction. If you’re not careful to always confirm address before sending you can be a victim of such. But randomly typing an address might be very difficult to be a correct address.

Well I have not seen a situation where someone receive a BTC amount by accident, I can’t speak from experience because I know that it’s actually not a coincidence if someone should make a mistake and sending btc to your address, the question is how did the person have access to your btc address, probably it might be from your place of work and where you do things.

But speaking from experience I haven’t received any Btc accidentally but honestly speaking I would really love to have that experience, with a good amount that would be very huge and massive.

I have received fiat several times in my bank account. The bank contacted me and sent an account for the funds to be returned. But I have never received Bitcoin by accident from anybody. I assume that Bitcoiners are very careful since any mistake could lead to loss of funds. He is lucky that he didn't send it to the wrong people; he would have lost his money. It is wise to cross-check addresses before sending any coins.
