Did somebody ever received a BTC amount by accident ... This is a stupid question with the developpement of Technology ... But who nows I mean did someone received it previously  ...personally i swear god that i will send it back Smiley that is the right thing to do Wink Wink .............

It is true that sending it back is the right thing, but whether you are completely honest in your statement is for you to prove, I won't argue whether you will or not.  Back on question, no, I don't receive any random BTC sent to my address.  If ever I received one, I won't tell whether I will send it back or not, righteous people do not tell the left hands what the good deed the right hand's did.

Meaning if the person is genuinely honest, he don't have to announce it to the whole world, and will just do the right thing quietly.
I like your statement because that's how it is supposed to be. No one wants to be in a situation where they lose their funds by mistake to someone else's wallet without knowing how to retrieve it or request for it to be refunded. So if you are in a position where someone sends funds to your wallet by mistake, it is proper to find the source, and refund it. There's obviously going to be a reward be it here in earth or in heaven.
One good turn deserves another.

Maybe, but I think it depends on the amount of bitcoin mistakenly sent. A large amount will give the person an extra motivation to find out who the recipient is. I know it's a daunting task, and the chance of recovering it back is very slim, but they would at least try, and if they can't, they would move on.
Exactly, the amount involved would actually determine the kind of effort that person is going to put in to recover his mistakenly sent coin, if it’s a small amount most people can just accept the mistake quickly even without much doubt and move on but when it’s a large amount, you hardly see a person who will leg go of such amount, rather they make sure they trace the lost transaction or even contact the recipient.

Did somebody ever received a BTC amount by accident ...
Not yet until now..
But I don't really understand that the amount is small and I've been receiving it unconsciously until now. But if I had realized it, I would have returned it.

This is a stupid question with the developpement of Technology
It's a common question, and it's been asked a few times. Unfortunately, some have actually clarified it, while others have chosen to remain silent. Perhaps even more remain silent. Unless it's a very large number, then it's a big deal.

This sending error can occur due to several factors:
- Incorrect wallet input (even if it's just one character/letter)
- Our device is infected with malware that causes the copied wallet to automatically change
- Or other errors

That is unlikely. I have never received a btc or a few of it by accident. But there are attacks that are done by strangers sending you dust amounts.

It is what we call the 'dust attack' and that's to fool the owner of the address whenever they're going to send another transaction on it.

And what they'll copy is through the last transaction from the dust attack and the address of that random stranger. It happens sadly.

That is not by accident but intentional.

the problem is that even though the point that was mistakenly sent to another address is just a small coin that does not mean that it can be recovered easily even though the coin that was sent to the person's address is big it does not also implies that it can be recovered easily because you don't know the exact person that the coin was sent to that is why is good for we but what carefully before we sent coin to somebody to know if they address matched with the address that we want to send the coin because if you mistakenly send a coin to a wrong address it will be hard to recover it

What a good topic i started   Cheesy i see  too much replies  Grin ... I can t read them all  Shocked

But  In fact i did sent BTC by error to someone else once  Tongue

I almost lost some BTC by sending it to the wrong address. Luckily, I was using Xapo back then and managed to hit cancel just a few seconds later. It's a rare safety net in this space, especially now that most of us are moving towards more direct control where there's no undo button Smiley

I have never received any Bitcoin by mistake and I have never sent any Bitcoin to anyone by mistake. But if I ever receive any Bitcoin by mistake, I will never accept it, because I never accept what is not mine. If I accept it, I will be responsible for it for the rest of my life, for which God will never forgive me. I have found money many times on the street but I have never accepted it. I have tried to find its owner and if I cannot find him, I have given it to my charity, because I will never enjoy what is not mine.

I could have taken nearly 40btc from Bitsler, but then who would I be?
Most people do not reason like that, money is like a spirit and have misled alot of people. I think you would have probably spent most if not all and the interest of Bitsler in getting you will continue to grow everytime the market pumps lol.

You did the right thing, there's no honour in anything else apart from what from what you did and the forum will continue to remember you and what you did for good Smiley.

My personal experience is that yahoo62278 accidentally sent 0.01 BTC extra as part of a campaign, informed him about the situation and he asked me to keep it as a gift.
When you already mentioned yahoo62278 in the wrongly sent BTC contest, it must be mentioned that his case was when Bitsler mistakenly sent him 39+ BTC instead of 0.394

Baryom    2018-11-03        I sent him 39.4 BTC instead of 0.394 BTC for a signature campaign payment. (My mistake obviously) He returned me 39.005 BTC as soon as he saw that :
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/3a9248a8b02038e237569c3bab0faa674f11575de97bc0dee7ccb307e121b10f

We are talking about $250,000. Thanks a lot.
Mistakes happen and in moments like these you show your true character. I could have taken nearly 40btc from Bitsler, but then who would I be?

Another proof that not all people have a price for which they can sell themselves and betray themselves; it is better for others to have a clear conscience, restful sleep, and self-respect.

There was another case on the forum; I couldn't find the link. The admin sent a fairly large amount to the newcomer, making a mistake . I think it was related to the purchase of a copper account? The amount sent was quite large, but this person, a novice, returned everything immediately. There was no reputation and no history of posts so that you could understand something about the person. But the choice was on the side of truth.

I admire such people and sincerely express my respect.

Man this reminds me of that one dude with the sign that you all know of. In the early days of bitcoin this one dude made that sign that said like "mom send bitcoin " I think is exactly what it was and I just always found that so creative and effective haha

Sounds more like a masturbatory wet dream of zero bitcoin holders who are still acting as freeloaders. Grin Hint: Money does not come for free.

Unless someone grossly messes up copying bitcoin addresses and does not triple check them before clicking on the send button, such mistakes will not happen. They would have to know your bitcoin address from some previous event as well and accidentally put that into the field. I think it is more of an impossible event to happen with the sender being in their full senses.

Accidental sending of wrong amount is not uncommon though.

Maybe it's just a shop or other business like an exchange or even a casino that experiences this, because the user saves it thinking it will be used again later, whereas the site uses a different address for each payment or deposit, so mistakes are made
I think if it's a personal address, it's rare, where to receive Bitcoin because of sending it to the wrong address.

Maybe some people out there did that in the past as Bitcoin price is cheap so people might not pay attention too much. But for now, hmm people will check two times or even they will spells every letter on the wallet just make sure that is the right.

I never received a BTC amount by accident but I dream to get huge profits from trading Grin

I haven't received any Bitcoins by mistake till date but in case I got some Bitcoins by mistake then I would say its better to send them back. There is no way to recover your Bitcoins in case you send it to some wrong address except the fact that the receiver is generous enough to find the mistake and return it. Always double check, while you are sending Bitcoins to some address because in case of mistake you won't get them back like we have in Banks.

It's very common in the past that people mistakenly send Bitcoin to the wrong address, but what's not common is the receiver coming out to say that they got bitcoin in their wallet from unknown sources, I've never seen such happen before, they just remain quiet and enjoy the bitcoin that want mistakenly send to them. I said this because I have made such mistakes twice in the past, I was still new to Bitcoin and I lack the patience to always check things through before sending transactions, the second time was very painful and that final mistake got me adjusted till now.

It can actually happen but it’s rare , if you have transact with the wallet address , such can happen, my brother did such mistake and no one has contacted him , and the worst of it is that once it’s confirmed , one can’t reversed it back , it’s gone , and people are very careful now , so it will be hard for such things  to happen now but not that can’t , but it will be hard .

I believe you meant this post by theymos where he explained what mishaps happened and he was one of the temporal dummies, sending the overly excess payment for a Copper membership that was paid to a wrong address by user owlgames accidently to a Newbie account instead of owlgames who screwed up his payment in the first place.

The lesson to learn: everybody can screw up, even experienced users. Put enough attention and verification into your payments, avoid haste, distraction, time pressure or other things that tend to promote errors.

The fact that there are still honest people in the world gives me some hope to clinge upon.

If you're one in the honest camp and received coins by error be sure to check if the sender has actually control of the sending address. If the coins came from a hot wallet of an exchange and you return the coins blindly to the sending address, it doesn't mean the sender account gets the coins back. In this case it can be a bit difficult to get in touch with each other and do all the verification properly. But this complication is probably beyond this topic.

The likelihood of accidentally sending Bitcoin to another person is very low. For example, if you manually enter the recipient's address and make a mistake in one character, your transaction will simply not be sent. The number of possible private keys in the Bitcoin network is so large that guessing someone else's private key is virtually impossible. 🙋

The situation is entirely different if the sender is your regular counterparty. If they have interacted with you repeatedly in the past, they may have your address written down for receiving satoshi. Theoretically, due to haste, they could make a mistake and copy this address for a new transaction. Therefore, funds intended for someone else could be received by you... Since the sender is someone you know, you can certainly negotiate with them about the fate of these funds.  🧖

The worst-case scenario, in my opinion, is receiving a small amount of satoshi (so-called "dust") that was intentionally sent to you by scammers to deanonymize you or, worse, steal your bitcoins. It's important to be able to defend against these types of attacks. In particular, any actual receipt of unintended satoshi should be immediately tracked. Any Bitcoin wallet has a list of incoming and outgoing transactions. 💁

Your answer is the best I could find in this thread. Quite surprising that only so few here brought up the deanonymization part.

I have never asked around how many here got confronted with dust transactions, but this is the first idea that comes to my mind when people think they "accidentally" received BTC in their wallet. This is important to know because deanonymization can have very differently structured motives behind those dust transactions.

The one motive is of course hackers to find wealthy individuals because they may be using an Electrum wallet without coin control and if they send their transaction of a bigger BTC amount along with the dust amount, hackers have a first point of contact and if this transaction is sent to an exchange, there is another puzzle piece. Step by step social engineering could theoretically be possible, but would only pay off if the individual is indeed wealthy.

What I found much more interesting is when I talked to a friend, or rather a good contact that I have known for several years, that dust transactions had been used vastly by blockchain analytics companies even though they publicly denied it. He was working for one of them a while ago and in the early days it was part of their repertoire. Nowadays I suspect they have so much access to information through cooperation and information selling that dust transactions are no more a tool that could give them any valuable surplus insight into transaction/address clusters. That is why I think dust transactions these days (and I think they are rare, I haven't received any in a long time) are more likely to stem from hackers trying to social engineer anything, but even that doesn't make much sense since there are so many honeypots anyway that I don't see how those transactions could give attackers an advantage.
