Most of my older Wallets have some dust.  Other than that, no.  And if I ever do, I would do my best to try and retrieve it.

And those dusts I doubt if they are actually mistakes because by what we all know about dusts they are intentional as the sender is actually trying attack that address. I think except unknown dust attacks it will be difficult for one to get accidental coins Send to them except wrong copying of address.

It's very common in the past that people mistakenly send Bitcoin to the wrong address, but what's not common is the receiver coming out to say that they got bitcoin in their wallet from unknown sources, I've never seen such happen before, they just remain quiet and enjoy the bitcoin that want mistakenly send to them. I said this because I have made such mistakes twice in the past, I was still new to Bitcoin and I lack the patience to always check things through before sending transactions, the second time was very painful and that final mistake got me adjusted till now.

One thing I want to ask is how you made such mistake, was it that you change character of the recipient address which wouldn’t have actually been the case because the address might have been invalid. I think the mistake is from actually copying a wrong address from your transaction and mistakenly sending bitcoin there, didn’t you check through your history to see who you had transacted with in the past, you might have contacted the person.

For me if I ever get receive bitcoin by mistake, the logic thing to do is to actually send the bitcoin back to the address that send it, this way you’re sure that you’re sending to the right person who made the mistake

The only way to get Bitcoin by mistake is to create thousands of addresses for fraud and change them through various wallet and device hacks.
This is an old trick of small hackers; they create addresses and if someone randomly transfers them, they might get them!
But in 2026, this is very unlikely to happen!

No.

If you're one in the honest camp and received coins by error be sure to check if the sender has actually control of the sending address. If the coins came from a hot wallet of an exchange and you return the coins blindly to the sending address, it doesn't mean the sender account gets the coins back. In this case it can be a bit difficult to get in touch with each other and do all the verification properly. But this complication is probably beyond this topic.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Mistakenly from a campaign means that I know the person and we have actually kept in touch as to where I am sending the coin to, that’s why we would need to look at transaction history to check who wrong send the coins to us. If by doing so I find the person out, I will simply just contact the person with that and arrange how to return the coin.

But should the owner not know to me, I think it will be absurd that I go on social media or any platform asking for who did that, if anyone comes to claim the coin how am I sure he is the owner of the address. Just like what miners do when there is huge over payment for transaction fee I will simply just return it to that same address

Miners that do that specifically, would probably be operating under the logic that an exchange would never hugely overpay the transaction fee (considering exchanges' fixed or dynamic fee rates), only someone with a self-custodial wallet would...

Did somebody ever received a BTC amount by accident ...
I have known and understood Bitcoin from 2916 until now and have been active in making transactions and so on in 2018 until now.

This means that I have never been targeted to other people and other people have not targeted Bitcoin to my address/wallet, other people outside I don't know.

Indeed Bitcoin has a unique address of numbers and letters but it is all well regulated, warnings are still there if they make the wrong transfer unless they are careless.

Did somebody ever received a BTC amount by accident ... This is a stupid question with the developpement of Technology ... But who nows I mean did someone received it previously  ...personally i swear god that i will send it back that is the right thing to do Wink .............

I am not that lucky, but who knows, maybe I could receive some in the future. But if someone sent me funds by mistake, I might not use them until I tried my best to locate that person. Although there are ways to send messages to that person using OP_RETURN, I once heard that a court used it to send a message to a hacker to convince him to return the funds. I could use it too, but the receiver would not get any notification like WhatsApp, so they would have to inspect the transaction to see the message. But I would do whatever I could to send the funds back because the world is too small, and your actions always have consequences. So never keep someone else's funds, either return them or keep them safe.

So I would try my best to forget that I have someone's BTC in my wallet so I would not use it. But a higher amount can be intimidating, that's why I would try to ignore it completely. I have seen so many real life heroes who have done this, not with Bitcoin but with bank transactions. They returned the money to the real owners because in banks sometimes every single digit can be the same as yours except the last one, and that happens a lot.

So far, I have never received someone else's BTC, and honestly, I don't want to because I don't want to go through this trouble.

I think some people may have received Bitcoin in their wallets from unknown wallets. As for me, I've never experienced that.
However, if you find Bitcoin in your wallet sent from an unknown wallet, you should find out who the sender is and return it to them. After all, it's not your right to hold the Bitcoin and claim it as your own. Even if you can't find the sender, you have no right to use it since it's not yours, so you can leave the Bitcoin in your wallet until the owner can contact you.

It is never possible to get Bitcoin unexpectedly. After Bitcoin was discovered, many people got Bitcoin very cheaply in the beginning who were related to it, but for those who did not know about it, it was not possible to get a Bitcoin even by mistake. Because if you do not know about Bitcoin, no wallet will be created and even if a wallet is created, if someone does not find that address anywhere, then there will be no possibility of sending Bitcoin there by mistake. Those who get Bitcoin by mistake may be involved in Bitcoin-related work or can get to their wallet in some other way, but there is no possibility of getting something like this for ordinary people.

It can actually happen but it’s rare , if you have transact with the wallet address , such can happen, my brother did such mistake and no one has contacted him , and the worst of it is that once it’s confirmed , one can’t reversed it back , it’s gone , and people are very careful now , so it will be hard for such things  to happen now but not that can’t , but it will be hard .
It would be good if you will tell how your brother did a mistake. I guess that he's copied the receiving address somewhere and that's how he had forgotten that the copied one wasn't his. And it's not that hard to be careful with how we do transactions by checking the address we send the BTCs for several times. Those who are in a hurry might commit that mistake if they have got a lot of transactions and addresses that they have in their record. Just don't do any other things while sending because it won't happen and for an actual accidental receiving some, I have not experienced that as far as I can remember.

Yeah it can happen, people who are sending transaction drunk or distracted, may copy the wrong address especially when they are only looking at the transaction history.  It can be recovered by double spending if a person is fast enough to execute the double spending before the transaction gets confirmed. but once it is confirmed it is somehow impossible to revert the transaction.

I would like to receive a BTC that is accidentally sent to my account but sadly it never happened.  It is a free money (J/K)!  Obviously the right thing to do is send it back but as I read the previous replies, there are lots of concern to just send the BTC back to the sender address, like what if the address is an exchange address.  Well, I think that is too complicated to think for now and just a waste of time thinking it over, I'll just wait until someone really sent me BTC by mistake, and then that will be the time to think of the best move.

There was actually a time in 2024 when someone else bitcoin wallet balance was appearing on my friends wallet, don’t know how possible that was but he wasn’t able to access the money, a huge sum for that matter. When he first saw that amount on his wallet, he was so happy and started making several plans in his head, thinking maybe someone mistakenly sent that money to him but at the end he couldn’t access it.

Strange  ....

But it remind me on the Hard Fork: August 1, 2017 that created BCH ... Not the subject of the post but anyways it s something like situation you discribe even if the final spendable amount was equal to what i originally had before the fork  Grin
