This is so awesome! Had this been around during the Bitcointalk Community Awards, it should have received the award for "Discovery of the Year". I was able to go back to the very first post I created as a greenhorn desperate for some attention and the feeling of finally being a part of a space like this. This is just like Ninjastic.space only this one looks more sentimental and creates a sense of nostalgia for anyone who goes through it. Good work, Op.

What did the Time Machine dig up for you? Drop your links and screenshots below! 👇
Pretty cool, it reminded me of my campaign for Tor Project last October. Time surely flies really fast, can't believe I've been here in the forum for almost a year already. Anyway, I also found it quite interesting to look at the posts of well-known members when they were still newbies. Grin

It's for entertainment purposes only.
Thanks for the honesty. Just as I expected, it’s an entirely pointless landing on this site, except for getting the questionable one‑time fun. In my view, users who value their time will forget this tool soon, but of course you’re free to support its maintenance. Good luck.
I think it's fine. As long as people had fun, then the tool has served its purpose. Besides, it's just one of many tools that OP is trying to develop in his site.

~snip
...hey, there's a date I ought to look up, and the day before it, too.  Things were on fire all over the forum.
What date is this? Maybe I can set up a reminder or add a special tab to it?? For a specific day.  Shocked

Thanks for creating this tool, brother. I wish I could create something like this. With over 16,415 posts, I have no time to manually check my post from a decade ago on a given date.
I recommend that members use this tool to see how they have evolved over the years.
Hey, appreciate the kind words! Maybe you can share anything that you were surprised to see back again as a throwback?

I will be using this tool from now on to check what I posted ten years ago. This is a fun way to reflect on and check your memory from a decade ago, how we have changed and grown, and whether we are different from ten years ago today.
We only have a few tools for Bitcointalk, and it's good that one of my fellowmen contributed.
Anything you might be interested in sharing? Hmm.   Grin

~snip
If there's improvements, at least it should give the actual merit number of the user or does that have a pattern?
The merit is shown with total merit earned, and then for the actual posts that are randomly selected, merit received by that post can be shown.

~snip
Another vital question is will this tool still be functioning a decade from now? There were codes/tools built for use in the forum but today they no more in function.
Maybe, it can be. Depending on the forum's status and whether it will change. It's great as it is IMO.

Thanks for the kind words! It's for me to improve, not just be stagnant in learning. Creating this tool is a blast, and more to come!

~snip
I think it's fine. As long as people had fun, then the tool has served its purpose. Besides, it's just one of many tools that OP is trying to develop in his site.
Getting ready with the other tools, I'm just thinking what could be the next in the pipeline that would give more functionality or fun in the forum.  Cheesy Cool

This is a good one, I like it. It made me have a sweet connection with my past and early days here on the forum. I couldn't help but laugh hard at what a fresh head I was back then, especially asking for recommendations for a cryptocurrency casinos to place my bets when they were worn as signatures by many. I was able to watch my growth and post maturity like a movie and it was cool, and I liked the randomness in extracting posts down the memory lane, It made me more curious about what would be displayed next. Bravo!!

A lil observation, any plans to fix the merit count? I was 10 merits short of actual count.

Will be sure to keep an eye out for another mind-blowing creation of yours in the future. Just wanted to ask; isn't it possible for someone's recent number of merits to be shown once the total number of posts has been displayed. I'm asking this cause I noticed that the number of merits shown isn't in correspondence with the merit you have on your profile.

Well, that's the allure to it and hope that a lot of users find it useful and touch their emotional side for once.

For the merit count, it should've been parsed after a while, but it will get refreshed once you search again for your name. I haven't really focused much on that, but I can check for the next update.

The one displayed is the merit earned, which will not equal the number of merits in the profile. Would that be a good metric? I can add that to the next update, along with the concern of DubemIfedigbo001

Nothing noteworthy came up today, but if anything does, I'll share it. It just reminded me that I've been on the forum for 13 years this month – many years.  Roll Eyes

Haven't read the thread fully, so I apologize if this has been mentioned already. It appears your site does not handle quotes very well. When a post contains quotes, it is difficult to know which part was quoted, and which part of a post was written by the claimed author.

Also, it took several minutes for your site to scrape my 15k posts. I don't think it would take a lot of storage to store everyone's posts, so I would suggest storing all posts. Or perhaps storing all posts for everyone who has more than x thousand posts, and refresh/update on query.

Overall, a pretty cool site.

eta: another thing is that your site doesn't handle certain characters very well. Astrophies (') being one example.

I like the theme. It's very Anthropic-esque.

For the merit count, it should've been parsed after a while, but it will get refreshed once you search again for your name. I haven't really focused much on that, but I can check for the next update.

So the merit count is updated manually? I would have thought that you have some sort of script that pulls data from loyce.club every few hours. At least, that's what I think would be the most optimal solution.

This is a great idea, I know I noticed this as well, but haven't been able to think of a solution on how to display it. Let me add an update for this as well to my next commit.

Also, it took several minutes for your site to scrape my 15k posts. I don't think it would take a lot of storage to store everyone's posts, so I would suggest storing all posts. Or perhaps storing all posts for everyone who has more than x thousand posts, and refresh/update on query.
Thank you for your patience with the caching. As LoyceV said, it takes a lot of storage to store millions of posts. I also want to limit storage for this service, so right now, caching it when it's requested is what I can think of that is sustainable.

eta: another thing is that your site doesn't handle certain characters very well. Astrophies (') being one example.
Is it with the memories? Or when putting in names for usernames? I'm not sure where I could improve this on.

It's not a continuous script; usually, it's through every query. It would be dependent on the loyce's mirror, and the total would be recomputed.

It's not a continuous script; usually, it's through every query. It would be dependent on the loyce's mirror, and the total would be recomputed.

Updating on every query feels inefficient. What if there's a DDoS attack or a large spike in user requests?

It is better to combine it with some sort of time interval, so that an update process can only happen as frequent as once every 5 minutes, for example.

Thanks for creating this tool.
I've tried it.
And the result is, hmmm truly reminded of how noob I used to be, how much of a shitty poster I used to be.  Grin Grin

This is one of the results of my first post, in the local post.
At first, I wondered why I had so many sentences in that post, but it turns out the results were a bit different. Look, my post is actually just the one I highlighted in blue (how one-liners it was). Perhaps I was a bit confused at first, because there was no space or distance between the post we quoted and our own.

However, I was reminded again by the following post:
I remember very clearly since then, the learning process, various input, criticism, and suggestions, are indeed that important for our progress.

It seems like I have to be much more enthusiastic and maintain consistency, when I see things like this. Our enthusiasm often goes up and down easily.  Sad

Maybe for the next projects that I have, I might be  Grin

For the large number of requests, I have a safeguard to sync only around 3-4 queries so that it wouldn't overload the system. Thanks for the suggestion. I think this would be a good process to do. I might do it for the cached users already and have a regular update interval.

I see better now. I have to do some post filtering with quotes to make it look better when it's a quoted post. Thanks for sharing and showing the possible improvement to this!

Here's a suggestion:
The "This Day" section could be subdivided into created topics and posts made.

As some users have mentioned, the site is not correctly displaying certain characters specific to some languages, such as the "ç".
I see that you have the <meta charset="UTF-8"> tag on the page, but it's probably only on the HTML side, or there's some missing PHP or database configuration.
You should check that out.  Wink
