Ghana is already considering passing a bill where every child will undergo DNA testing at child birth. I desperately need Nigeria to follow suit as it will curb the paternity fraud title we have. Ranking 2nd place in the world, that's insane. Every child deserves to know their biological father.
The main question remains, can Nigeria afford this? Will the government use those data later against us? Will this destroy marriages and relationships?
For me personally I want it so badly. All I can think of is the positive side to this bill if Nigeria consider passing it. Should Nigeria consider implementing this?

If they enforce it, that means the government will take the responsibility or the father will to be the person that will pay? Some people may not like to add ₦50000 or more to the cost of their child birth. Not everyone is rich in Nigeria.
It will be a good idea if it is free for people that are giving birth in government hospitals.
I do not see a reason the government will use it against people.

This is a very interesting topic but should be moved to the right board which is the politics and society sub board. It's a shame that many women are becoming promiscuous and their husbands have to suffer for it by taking responsibility of children they didn't legally adopt but unknowingly have to. That's deceit and a law needs to be set aside for those Promiscous married women to be arrested and tried in court for deceit. I also support that our government should pass the bill too cause ranking 2nd means that it's gotten out of control and something should be done to try control it, yes it would destroy many marriages but many women would desist from the act. It's unfair that many men out there are not the biological fathers of their children, so troubling and heartbreaking.

If the government passes such bill, then definitely they should fund it. Why I say this is because cost should not be negotiable when knowing the father or generally parent of a child. Nigeria government in the past sold our data for peanut. So I have concerns that it might happen again. But men liberated from such women. What the government can do is expose such atrocities. That way men will know at the back of their mind that any action they take from here, the consequences will be theirs. But again, if arrest is necessary then the kid becomes government property which for many will raise concerns. multiple posts merged by moderator

If I should get you right in what you're referring to cheap dada, you mean mobile data right? Yea we bought mobile data very cheap of course it has not been long when Tinubu effect started telling in everybody, early last year if I'm not making a mistake the price of mobile data was not as costly as it now, last two years was also cheaper, now let fully get involved in the discussion here, if such law concerning every child at birth should be considered for implementation, just know that the price will either be subsidized by the government or the government will take the full responsibility of the cost, I don't think that they'll leave that clause in captured because of the reality Nigerians are facing, making it compulsory means that it should either be affordable or the put the cost in Nigeria budget. I will want to bring your attention to some, when you write make sure allow other write too maybe you can quote them, in this thread you've written twice which is not bad but where it is bad is you writing consecutive at a stretch, it is not right, we have rules in this forum and don't spam please, be a good forum user.

It will be good for every child should undergo DNA test to know he or her biological father but for me this will definitely going to break many marriages and relationships, some children will definitely going to be fatherless if some people find out the child is not his child, although it will be good for everyone should have a DNA test their child even if the government is not involved because we are living in the world where people can not be trusted including the wife you are living with but no matter how it is it will definitely affect many people and the country and also with the way things are going in Nigeria and how people find it difficult to get a better job sometimes will not allow anyone to think about it.

I wanted to ask this question, how do they come up with this statistics that Nigeria ranked second in the world for paternity fraud because I know 90% of Nigeria can't afford DNA test because it is expensive If government would accept it, it would reduce the rate of paternity fraud in Nigeria. DNA test is expensive, if government accept to champion the call for compulsory DNA test for children then they should make it free in government hospitals. The truth is, if DNA test is made mandatory for children, it would destroy many homes as truth about paternity in children would be exposed but it would also reduce the rate paternity fraud and cheating by our women.

Already, this will destroy marriages, and many women will not agree to it, for the bill to be passed. Women will do everything within their power to prevent the government from signing it into a bill.
I remember a certain time(2019) on Twitter when a Nigerian doctor announced laboratory running DNA on a discounted price in Lagos. He was backlash and threatened for thinking of such. I don't know what later happened, whether the doctor was silenced or whisked away because nobody had what later happened after he cried out for help for the amount of threats to his life he had received.

To me this is not a good idea and that law needs not to be implemented in Nigeria because so many marriages will be destroyed from knowing who truly the father of the child is and it will cause big chaos in the family as well, in our contemporary world today about 75% of the children born are not the biological children of the husbands and those who are financially buoyant once they secretly go for a DNA test and discover it that home is broken so I don't support such laws to be implemented by the Nigerian Government. There are rare cases where the husband is impotent unknowingly to him and maybe the wife has known and she secretly goes out to get children for him just to save the family name, in such cases what will be the actions of the Man when he knows?, somethings are better left the way it is just to say people from depression and heart attacks. If anyone feels his wife is unfaithful and wants to carry out a DNA test he should do that from his purse. Note: I'm not encouraging the wives to cheat but I'm looking at the repercussions that comes with it which will be broken marriages.

Who cares if it destroys marriages and relationships? It is great evil that most children in Nigeria dont know their parents, and I want it to stop. Are you also aware that some women dont know who got them pregnant? Are you also aware that some hospitals are responsible for switching children? Like..things are happening in the country around childbirth, if a DNA test at childbirth is a worldwide solution, I want to see it start in Nigeria.

Point of correction, abeg where did you see your statistics from where Nigeria is ranked 2nd on the list of countries with paternity fraud. Because if Nigeria is to ranked 2nd despite our strong culture that don't encourage divorce or give woman upper hands in marriage cases just like the United States and United Kingdom. Where will you rank these two? The main question remains, can Nigeria afford this? Will the government use those data later against us? Will this destroy marriages and relationships?

Implementing DNA to be compulsory for every child that is been born before a birth certificate can be issued to the parents is not a bad idea, because at least it will safe a lots of people from training another man's child without knowing about it. But apart from that, another big question here is that is the DNA test going to be free? Or is government going to subsidized it, because we all know how this country is, whereby immediately government implement this now, na that time you go see plenty Nurses and doctors act like boss due to the fact say they don dey see crowd

Well, there's something Agbamoni talked about swapping babies in the hospital which in some cases lead to paternity fraud, if such law is implemented it would help tackle that particular issue too. Person go feel say the law go affect families until eh happen to am then everywhere go just blur.

Yes, that's another good point why DNA is also very important to be done after the birth of a child, in other to avoid child swapping after birth. Because most nurses are very wicked, and if you are lucky they can swap your child for another, but if you are not lucky they can claim your child died in the process and they will sell it out to couples in need of child. So it will really be a welcome development if such is welcome to our Nigerian hospitals and made free, since it's not everybody who is financially bouyant to afford paying to ran a DNA test.
