So another breach, although we don't know if this is true or not.

But with that regards, this is another proof that we should really take care of our exchange account. Maybe we need to change our password. Use 2FA or anything that it will not be that easy for the hackers to steal our crypto.

There has been a lot of hacks for this year alone and we don't what to be the next victim.

As awful and sad as it is i have to make 2 statements:

-This certainly doesn't belong in "Bitcoin Discussion"

-There have been tons of KYC leaks, I personally knew people who had to move because of that.
Every time you complete KYC you should be ready for the scenario when it gets leaked.
And no matter what else info is leaked, it all won't matter if there's no your name or address attached to it.

And fwiw, i believe it's not the first Coinbase's leak either.

There has been series of impersonation attacks on Coinbase users, which clearly indicate KYC leak in the past. We have seen that also happened in 2025 that Coinbase users were targeted by online impersonators that led to some Coinbase users losing millions of dollars in total.

There was the same thing also in 2024.

This was the one we talked about in 2025 on this forum. I think the two threads were about the same data breach:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5543548.msg65384858#msg65384858
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5543669.msg65390398#msg65390398

And no matter what else info is leaked, it all won't matter if there's no your name or address attached to it.
What about those that fall for impersonation through email? It is still one of the leading scam.

Yes thats alarming. If the platform got hacked its out of the user hands actually. They should have strengthen their security and wont allow a breach like this to happen. Since customers information is at risk with the hackers. I dont have coinbase account since wasnt able to make one and I believe not allowed to create anymore by this is a concern too for some users. Leaking info is one thing we dont wanna happened on our side.

When you submit some thing to the Internet, it is going to be stored forever in some drives or servers you do not even know about.  All that data leaking out is a matter of time and chances.  You are gambling with them.  This is what I knew when social media platforms were 'the hype' and everyone was uploading their personal information, pictures and even marriage status on their pages just to be in line with everyone else.

It is a great thing that we still have some no Know Your Customer platforms around.  Use them while we still have them.

You should also be very worried as should everyone who used Coinbase in the past because its
not just your funds to worry about, its your personal information which you gave to CB in order to
be verified for KYC and AML. If this is true the hackers will have access to your Name, your dat of
birth, and your picture potentially your address also!

Quote
Alleged Coinbase user records

This just highlights the downside of centralised exchanges!

...and if its not true the scenario should be a warning to everyone on what could happen.

Interestingly, the market hasnt reacted - yet

You can not trust any centralized companies for security and safety of your identity and identity documents as well as your privacy. At the time you submit your identity documents to any website, it's like a first foundation for something bad to happen in the future. You just don't know when that terrible time will happen with your identity documents and like this Coinbase data breach incident, it won't be the last.

Many data breaches with different severity levels.

What exactly do you think of, when you hear someone talk about an exchange account? When we are talking about exchange hacks or breach, it's not from the users end but from that of the exchange data centers. You literally have little to no power over your funds and data once you make deposit and upload them into these third party sites. When their systems fails, hackers can easily gain access to them and steal these data's, do whatever they wish with them.. the money you see on your exchange apps are just numbers to tell you how much linked to your kyc is made available. They aren't stored on the apps itself. For self custody it's similar but this type your security falls on you. If you don't protected your keys properly, you lose your money when they get to the hands of others..

Personal documents should be kept as secure as Bitcoin hardware, otherwise there is a possibility of major fraud using such information in the near future!
In such cases, exchange members are usually more involved, and most users underestimate the security of their accounts, so such situations often arise.

User records do not necessarily mean that account security has decreased, as platforms encrypt passwords and two-factor authentication and store them independently of user records, ensuring customer accounts remain secure. user records may include data shared with third parties, KYC data, trading logs, browser data, or any cookie-related information.

Tell that to custodial services and the government authorities who request kyc from people, but fail to protect the data. There are more data leaks than we know about, so i don't get surprised when situations like these are reported. Kyc is very dangerous when it's exposed, and it even gets more dangerous when the data leaked contains home addresses and name, in that case we are now looking at a possible home invasion and kidnapping.
