One of the most important things when you gamble is the ability to move on. Whether you lose or win, you have to be comfortable with the outcome, so that when you log off, you can go back to your normal routine without thinking about the recent outcome of your gambling session.

Presumably why it is good to have a definition before gambling. Like you define how much you want to spend, how many bets in total you want to make, like this now anything you do outside this is you totally just freestyling.

I would say you are very lucky you won after your second bet because usually lack of sleep and betting in the same sentence usually never results in a win for anyone, so yeah that was just luck for you man.

Lack of sleep and emotionless betting really got me this time

I was betting on the NBA playoffs like usual. Most of the time I just place my bet, then sleep if the game is too early, because I don’t want to ruin my sleeping habit just because of a bet. But a few days ago, I drank too much coffee and I couldn’t sleep. Since I was already awake, I played some slots, lost a decent amount, and that made it even harder to sleep. So I just waited for the NBA game to start. At first I only placed a small bet on the Sixers to win, since they were down 0-3 already. But the game looked really bad, so I bet again in the 2nd quarter, hoping maybe they could still recover. But they still lost, and we all know how that game went, complete domination by the Knicks.

After halftime, I told myself, no, I’m not following the Sixers anymore. But I also didn’t want to take the high spread, so I went for over 232.5 in the Knicks game. That was basically all my remaining money, all-in, just trying to break even. Luckily, I won.

But looking back, what did I really lose? Sleep. Time. Energy.

I was awake from evening until morning, then I needed almost the whole day just to recover. I couldn’t do the things I was supposed to do, and I couldn’t work properly because my mind was just not there anymore. So even though I won the last bet, I still lost something. Maybe not money this time, but control.

And that’s the part people don’t always count when gambling. You can win the bet, but still lose your day, your routine, your focus, and your peace of mind.

I feel your pain of loss. I too have lost a lot of money on accident, all because I was in a rush. Lesson learned. Hopefully I do not do that again.

Control is not always in our hands as we think it will be. Sometimes we just have to accept we are simply human beings and some events will always happen that will be completely out of our control, even though it may feel like we should have been able to stay in control at that particular moment...

So do not blame yourself. In fact, you will feel better forgiving yourself but remembering the lesson so the chances it happens again in the future will be much lower (although never zero).

Sleep, energy, time are very important in human life, but due to our negligence, we are wasting these valuable things. For example, we gamble for entertainment, but while gambling we do not sleep at night; we always keep thinking about what position the game will be in, what stage it will be in, etc. But we do not really understand here that we are wasting sleep, time, energy for our entertainment. So if entertainment is to be done, it must be done in leisure time; not by wasting comfortable sleep, not by wasting valuable time, and not by wasting all the energy of the body.
Not sleeping at night, overthinking, blah blah blah happens when gamblers gambles with more than the amount that they should have used . Most gamblers know that it is very wrong to gamble beyond what they can comfortably afford to lose, but yet again they still do the opposite, all because the love for money and profit have blinded their eyes... They are more concerned with the profit they will get from a bet, and this usually blinds them from seeing how dangerous it can be to go all in with their whole income... Gambling is very much for entertainment and so it should be treated as such .. Gamblers should gamble within their limit, so they wouldn't lose their sleep or whatever precious aspect of their lives ...

But you are willing since gambling does not force us to not to sleep.  It is all on our part, as your storym you drank too much coffee, you can't sleep, you play slots and other games since you can't sleep, and so on, that makes you awake all night.  If you are not gambling, I am sure you are doing other things, maybe playing games in your mobile phone or browsing shorts or other movie available online.  So basically, it is not gambling that make you lose your sleep.  It is your decision to do something while you are yet to be sleepy.

I highly agree, even if it is not gambling or just scrolling short clip in social media platforms, we must control ourselves.  If it is sleeping time, the decision is ours to either stay awake the whole night or force ourselves to sleep even though we are not sleepy.

I also think that lack of sleep is often not good for you, because gambling games have a very strong influence on luck and because of this, I would simply prefer to lose with enough sleep than without enough sleep. Although at the same time I understand how much I sometimes want to play, despite sleep, because the desire can be very strong. Often a player can win and say that he didn’t get enough sleep, but he won, but in my opinion this is just luck and nothing more. Only professionals can play and influence the game, but they will not play without sleep because they almost always play in perfect shape.

The real question you should be asking yourself is, did you stay up all night because you drank too much coffee, or did you stay up all night because you drank too much coffee so you could gamble? Those are two very different things, and I say this because you mention coffee as a justification, but immediately a few paragraphs later you imply that you blame the gambling for your sleepless night.
Be careful with that. peoples tend to blame external factors when we get hooked. I gambled out of boredom; this is just a one-time thing. It's not the end of the world if it happens this time, but you should try not to repeat it.

If you talk about sleep alone as something which you just lost, it might make it seem as if only the night sleeping hours could be affected, but what you lost was not just your sleep, but time was seriously used here and you were lucky to win at your last game. If not you could have not only lost time, but also the money and a good sleep, I have always been among few who talks about how important time management is same as money management in terms of gambling we should not spend more time than we should especially deprive ourselves of something just to give gambling attention.

As a gambler, your health should be your major priority. Depriving your self of sleep to fulfill your gambling activities would impose great danger to your health and it's not a good practice to be precise. But I won't blame you as anyone could fall into this category once in a while. More often than normal we may want to sit down and watch how our games plays out. Ideally it's fun because of the tension and all that goes down during the games. I mostly do that when I'm watching with friends but if it's just some random bets, I don't bother myself with watching how it plays out to avoid being tensed up. But the lesson learnt from this is simply, be sure to keep your health in check and sleep when it's due.

Being awake for the one whole night is not going to affect much of your health, and as you said you may need a day or two to recover from that fatigue but the sleep cycle will be as usual. But you are running into the chances of making it a habit, and good thing is since you realized that already just stop doing it or just place bet get to sleep, you don't necessarily have to bet and watch the game. Generally not getting adequate sleep has been linked to poor decision making, crankiness, and other negative behavioral outcomes. I agree with the OP that even though he won, the effects lack of sleep left on him was obvious. I would add that he was just lucky because given the same circumstance, it may be a loss and not win that would be experienced. In summary being well rested before gambling is as important gambling responsibly.

Discipline plays a vital role when gambling. If you don't have self-control and discipline, and fail to regulate impulses, emotions, and behaviors when you are in winning or losing streak, thus gambling becomes a threat to your own personal health and wellness, to your own welfare.

It would be best if you can set in advance your time limits. And no matter what happens, the time of rest and sleep should never be compromised. It's a crucial restorative process for the entire body. Otherwise, if you do not sleep due to gambling, you are not just gambling your money, but you are also gambling your time and energy, and make yourself malfunction the following day.

One of the most important things when you gamble is the ability to move on. Whether you lose or win, you have to be comfortable with the outcome, so that when you log off, you can go back to your normal routine without thinking about the recent outcome of your gambling session.

Control is really necessary, because gambling is not only about money. Sometimes the bigger loss is what happens after the bet.
Trying to recover from gambling can do more harm than good. I have lost a lot of money to recover a small loss that has completely wiped out my bankroll. Gambling should be used in a way that does not affect my personal life, but when the loss increases, it can become a serious problem if you cannot accept it. The reason I have learned from experience is that if you are not mentally prepared, then stop betting even with small amounts of money. Mentally prepared people can get good results in gambling, but when gambling is done in a hurry or when betting is started with the intention of recovering a small loss, it can become a big problem.

After halftime, I told myself, no, I’m not following the Sixers anymore. But I also didn’t want to take the high spread, so I went for over 232.5 in the Knicks game. That was basically all my remaining money, all-in, just trying to break even. Luckily, I won.

But looking back, what did I really lose? Sleep. Time. Energy.

Maybe not money this time, but control.

And that’s the part people don’t always count when gambling. You can win the bet, but still lose your day, your routine, your focus, and your peace of mind.

Control is really necessary, because gambling is not only about money. Sometimes the bigger loss is what happens after the bet.

A surprisingly solid topic, I think about it often too. When I compare the profit from gambling (if there is such a thing haha) with how much of my intellectual energy, time and effort I spent to get it, I come to the conclusion that it was not worth it. I understand that I do this simply because I enjoy the process, and not because of any material gain, since in general, even if you win, there is no material gain (unless you are lucky enough to win a huge jackpot). It would be good if everyone understood this and directed their energy into more productive directions.
This is gambling for you, you invest more than you win, and you keep coming back because you enjoy the process. Anyways, It is better to cultivate some discipline in gambling and have a time-frame for it. I personally don't gamble more than 3 hours at a stretch, maybe because my budget mostly finishes before the time, but even though it doesn't, I try to regulate the time spent on the casino so it doesn't encroach of other important aspects of my life like family time and career, I also think that if OP had a family and does this, the he might want to reorganize his priorities.

Well, I am glad you are least managed to recover your money... It does not sound like a pleasant experience to completely lose your sleep time because of what happen to your gambling and betting session. Even if you had managed to get some money, it would have not been worth your sleep time either.

I have never spent the entire night gambling or betting, but I know what it is to suffer a sleepless night doing other things and still needing to go to work next day, so I can relate.

Also, how did you even manage to go for the rest of your day without falling asleep at work or while driving?
If I go through the night with no sleep I become practically useless the next day. Did you drink some energy drinks or something?
That is a very expensive play or as I may call it a joke because it is never healthy for gamblers to sacrifice their sleep times for gambling that they can always play on at their free times.
What OP just experienced was very risky because if you rest the head at a bedtime (night), it will definitely become a very critical times for you if you have to go to work during the day especially in the morning.

It can lead to suspension or lost of job of that individual if thyr are employees.
I would not even want to talk about the amount lost because it was going to be a nightmare when you fall asleep.
Of all, the circumstances will be so traumatic for your unreadable actions.
