Last week I came across a thread where someone was happily celebrating their 10 years anniversary on the forum, and it got me thinking. So I decided to build a small fun platform that lets anyone check when they will celebrate their own 10 years Bitcointalk anniversary.


What it does

You just simply enter your Bitcointalk profile link and the system will:

Detect your forum join date

Calculate your 10th anniversary date

Show a live countdown (days remaining)

Display notable global events happening in that same month

Generate a downloadable Anniversary Share Card

It is just a fun way to see your forum milestone ahead of time. Appreciate long-term participation on Bitcointalk Forum and add a bit of excitement around anniversaries

This is good but did you know what that is mostly important for 10 years anniversary? It is your bitcoin hodling. I asked a question on the thread that you are taking about, which is

I hope you are also hodling bitcoin as your account is growing on this forum so that your bitcoin will also be growing. There are huge benefits in hodling bitcoin.

What the person should be happy about is the amount of bitcoin he has been hodling and how much it has grown in his country money or dollar in inflationary fiat.

Good, but what if someone wants to track 5 years, 12 or even 15 years?

I feel you should make the tracking period flexible and allow users to enter the duration they want to track.

Secondly what's the notification system like? Maybe I forget to check the site and it's my anniversary today, how does the system send a notification to the user?

Finally, is it open source? I might not want to use your hosting, but host it on my personal server for my own use.

You actually did an excellent job but I have some few observations and suggestions  

You just simply enter your Bitcointalk profile link and the system will:

I didn't notice the instructions correctly, I inserted my username and it displays error message. Then I realised it requires Profile link and not username  
I had to go back and get my profile link for another trial. And it works fine this time.
Isn't it more easier to use username instead of profile link? I'm actually more convenient with username

Show a live countdown. Since it displays only days remaining, it's not accurate to say it's a live countdown. It's still a countdown but live countdown usually update second by second. Shows days countdown (static countdown) is more appropriate in this case. Or you can update it to show live countdown by updating second by second if you prefer to use the live countdown.

Generate a downloadable Anniversary Share Card

I downloaded the card but it only carries Username and anniversary date.
If you share the card without any caption, then people will start wondering what anniversary you're actually celebrating. So I suggest you include "10th years anniversary on Bitcointalk" to the share card since this is about 10th year anniversary tracker.

Since it's a fun way to see your forum milestones ahead of time, it's not necessarily needed to be 10 years. Make the year optional for people to choose from as low as one year. 10 year is a actually a bit too long.

Someone already suggested a notification system. It would be close to meaningless tracking an event without a notification especially for some thing that is as long as 10 years. The notification can be through email or other means. You may make it optional thou but it's necessary.

I've been on the forum for eight years, but I love this place not because I have something stored somewhere. I'm not pursuing a "religious" idea of storage; I'm just living in the here and now. I am neither in poverty nor in wealth, so repeating the same motto or mantra that your brothers repeat here and there is not relevant to others. Maybe you want to stubbornly prove to everyone that Satoshi invented Bitcoin only to invest in it?


A person should enjoy everything that brings them joy. The word "should" has no obligatory direction.

I'll agree with you on this one. I've been on the forum for quite a fewer number of years, I can't say I've stacked up so much Bitcoin yet, but I've come across a lot of people, learned a lot things, made a few contributions (even though it may not appear to be as notable as some other members') But I believe the knowledge and the experience here over the years could/should be considered more valuable than how much bitcoins you've actually stacked.

You have done well to create this tracker for users to know the account down to 10 years anniversary on this forum, I think it is more relevant to those that have already passed 9 years and having some months or days to make it complete 10 years, also in addition, most important that we see this indicate a landmark achievement and for someone to be into bitcoin over a decade without having a significant achievement should be questionable, because it is not by how far but how well.

 This is indeed great initiative, even though when I tried using it took a while before it could get my data, but it’s definitely commendable. And as I tested mine, 10 year Anniversary was calculated to be on 16th Nov, 2035 which happens to be on a Black Friday! And that was very correct. Sharing my card from now as I wait for the long years ahead

OP 10 years is a lot, maybe you should adjust your tracker to yearly anniversary because every year spent on bitcointalk is significant and not only 10 years anniversary.

No matter how many years that one spent on this forum, it will be meaningless to waste those years as a no coiner. As we are learning and sharing knowledge in the forum, it is also good that we invest along. Nevertheless, the knowledge that some of us has gained in this forum is above just being centered at bitcoin discussion and bitcoin investment alone. We have different boards where non bitcoin related subjects are discussed, so anyone who really came to this forum to learn and share ideas despite the rewards that are attached will know that they have benefited from the forum in diverse ways.

Nice one OP this would be a fun one. Anyways I have a couple of suggestions. First why not make it an extension that looks like a real small floating window that can constantly update everyone using it on who on the forum hit an anniversary that day. That way everyone gets a notification of someone who reached a mile stone.

Pretty similar to what LoyceV was saying. Activity could be nice also but this is probably ok for a start and as time passes based off the usage you notice you can gradually add up more features to it.

First of all, I'm not disputing the fact that investing in Bitcoin is good for everyone, but you need to know that investing in Bitcoin, regardless of how good it is, is still a choice and not a mandatory option for anyone who joins this forum. So NO, I don't buy your idea that folks who spend years here and still remain a no coiner have simply wasted their time and years here. Just like you said, the forum might be called bitcointalk, but we got a lot of other things we talk about here asides Bitcoin, so there are several other things to benefit from here asides Bitcoin knowledege. Besides, just because one chooses not to invest in Bitcoin doesn't make them any less a human being, they can still be using Bitcoin actively in several other ways and still not be an investor, they are still joined to the moving train mate.

That kind of stat can be added to BPIP much easier - they already have the registration and activity status. 

I'm sorry OP, but I just click on "Profile" and I know what digit to increment by 1 to represent a decade.  A better idea would be to tell the user how far away they were from significant forum events, for example.  "You signed up the day after Pizzagate!"

Why focusing only on 10 year anniversary?
You could also add smaller events every year, and avoid getting negative counting when someone pass over 10 years.
I tried entering several different profiles on your website but it worked slower than I expected.

I will applaud you for been innovative, but I don't know if  the app have reminder that will help to notify a forum if it has completed a certain year in the forum without inputting the profile of forum members when we decide to check how we have stayed in the forum....

If such reminders is not in place in the app, I haven't see the difference between it and visiting your forum profile and check your registration date on your profile..We can calculate our 5th or 10th anniversary manually...

Thanks a lot everyone for the feedback and suggestions, I genuinely appreciate it. The project actually started as a small fun experiment after seeing someone celebrate their 10 years anniversary on the forum, but many of the suggestions here are really good and can make it much more useful.

Some of the improvements I am already considering based on the feedback:

Flexible anniversary tracking Like 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, 15 years and maybe +5 of years ahead instead of only 10 years

Username search support in addition to using just the profile link.

Better and more accurate live countdown system

Improved share card with clearer Bitcointalk Anniversary branding

Daily anniversary page showing users celebrating today

Notifications or reminders email or optional browser notifications or better still I could see how I can integrate telegram too.

Faster scraping and caching improvements, although I already took care of this part to some extent.

Significant forum-history events Like You joined after Bitcoin Pizza Day.

Possible browser extension / widget idea for live anniversary updates

And I noticed that some people also correctly pointed out that manually calculating anniversaries from the profile page is already possible. That’s true and the goal of the platform was not necessarily to solve a difficult problem, but to make the experience more interactive and visually fun.

This version is still subject to improvements and I will work on it. Thanks again for all the constructive suggestions.
