This is coming from a friend, he's been with a company that is a restaurant and a catering service for 15 years, and is a regular employee. This is not really a big company, but it's been stable for the last 20 years.
But he learned that the owner became hooked in casino, and he was just starting to frequent casinos.

Now he is asking me, is it a big concern if your employer starts to frequent casinos? Or he is just speculating that it will harm the company eventually.

It’s concerning as an employee because we all know the risk involved of gambling and the tendency to gamble recklessly that will sacrifice their business fundings or management.

But we have no right to judge our boss on this situation because it’s his choice on how he will spend his money. Just pray that your boss will keep a responsible gambling on his games.

There’s some boss that can handle gamble properly. It’s always subjective.

It's a big concern if it's a sole proprietorship, in which he is the sole manager, because it will go under or suffer losses if he focuses more on casinos than on his business.
You just have to check the sign, if he spends more time in the casino, and there are delays in his workers' salaries, and the company cannot replenish the supply, and many clients are not getting or renewing their service

I think it is none of the employers/employees business. Nobody is the boss of anyone else's private life. What is next? Will they be telling you how long to sleep or how much to eat?

Such things are part of personal matters, so unless they have a relationship that goes beyond employee/employer, there is nothing to be discussed.

Obviously the employer has been doing well until now. If your friend thinks his job is in danger because of his gambling then he should look for a new job. But if the employer is a dear friend to him, then I can understand why he wants to get involved.

OP, your employer frequenting casinos is not and non of your business and concerns. Gambling is a personal decision and if one chooses to gamble, it's their life and not yours. As long as you are being paid for your services, it is good and better you mind your business as your boss lifestyle is none of your concern.
You can only suggest to your boss on what to do if he seeks your opinion in quiting gambling or when it starts to become a thing of concern to his family, friends and business and urgent attention is needed to help stop or reduce his urge to gamble. Anything outside that you have no right to talk about such to your boss if he doesn't seek your consent for it.

If your employer frequents casinos and it's not affecting the productivity of the company and he meets up with the financial obligations like paying salaries and smooth running of the company then it shouldn't be a concern to you. Unless if your boss's gambling is affecting the quality of his management and directory then you can worry, so far he's not using his working hours to gamble you should let him mind his own business.

Aside from anybody's gambling habits not disturbing their jobs I don't think that it is a good idea to be frequenting casinos at every spare time, it is a sign of addiction and should be avoided. Imagine visiting a casino at different times of the day even if it's your free time it shouldn't be so because on the long run it will gradually begin to affect your work and quality times.

Gambling is one thing that is very dangerous poisonous and affect the life of a man or a woman because they are automatically subjected access into gambling and of course even though they are trying their best to control their feelings and emotions while gambling you would see that it could take time for them to entirely stop that particular thing they are doing especially when they have spent years into that particular thing they are doing.
The thing there is that, as a worker or business owner you shouldn't be that devoted into gambling or trying to focused much of attention into what you think that could be increasing your desire and interest because when after you might have got dedicated into it then what follows is addiction and addiction is something that is very hard to fight against except through the intervention of people or councilor who is serving as someone to help people relief their interest into gambling.

If I were him, I would mind my own business, not spy on what the boss does in his free time. Every man has the right to spend his money as he wants, and if that means he can gamble away his company, nothing can be done about it. There are plenty of other restaurants your friend could work at if this job fails.

I think this is a challenge for the employer and not on you the employee, even though I understand your reason of being concerned because when things go upside down with the company, is me collapse and went bankrupts as a result of gambling the employees are going to be affected, which is a risk on your own side because you don't want to reach losing your job because of the recklessness of the employer as he frequent with the casinos, if you knows what he is doing as an employer, he will not take the risk of wasting the resources on gambling when it should manage the business with the fund and keep it running.

For me, yes, the business could go down at any time. Your job is your concern. If the owner ever becomes addicted and mismanages the business, all you can do is look for a new job and make sure you are compensated. Until you see things that magnify your concern, just do your job until the end.
There is no stable business; any business could go down due to external factors or mismanagement.

Simply knowing a person's casino schedule isn't enough to determine whether someone has a bad gambling habit or is a cause for concern, unless your friend knows a lot about his boss's personal life, including emotional side. Your friend should also investigate business situation following his boss's new habits. If the boss starts reducing the catering portions they can serve over time, your friend should be concerned.

The employer has his decision to made when it comes to gambling and that does not concerns me on how he choose to go about it, it may happen that is being intentional and know what he is doing, while on the contrary, you may be deceived and spend the whole time on gambling when he should be planning about the establishment he had, at the end of the day you may probably learn the hard way or enjoy gambling with lots of fun, therefore is motive to what he is doing really matters here.

In my estimation, it is non of his business what his employer chooses to do with his time. He is employed to do a job and he should do it. As long as he is getting paid and the work environment is non-toxic, supports the growth of staff members then that is all that matters. If he is concerned about his employer's habit, he should move to a better organization whatever he defines it as.

What is he going to do if we say it is very risky? He is not the employer, but an employee. So he will do nothing.

Another thing is that you will need to ask him if his employer is gambling more than necessary or a gambling addict.

But, most importantly, if the employer is paying his salary, he has nothing to be concerned about.

That is his personal life, as long as it does not affect the company’s financial performance, then I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

People go to casinos because they want to have fun, and if a person is a responsible gambler, then there is only a little risk that the business will be affected.
So maybe just observe first and see if the business is really affected. If it starts affecting the company, then that is the time you can think of jumping out of that boat and looking for another one before it sinks.

OP i want you to understand that frequently gambling is not being addicted to it. There are people who gambles regularly and still maintains their responsibilities including timing and financial management.

Where it turns a heavy concern to employees gambling is when your gambling experiences and urge had taken deep control of your anxieties, then even at your work place you can not concentrate to do your jobs efficiently.
So when your Boss or employer learns about your gambling lifestyle is being affecting the companies success or reputations, definitely that single handed act can jeopardize your job.

The health of the business should be the concern of employees, especially if it is difficult to secure jobs in the area. He needs to be sure that the business won't go bankrupt in a short time, which might make him unemployed.

You are right that employees don't have the right to intrude into the personal life of the owner of the business. But I would like to know the financial condition of the firm I am working with. So that I might start seeking a job somewhere else to avoid being unemployed for a long time.

If the employer can distance himself from the company's funds (capital and profit), there is nothing to worry about but whereby he is using the company's funds to gamble, then that should be a concern of every employee in the company because delay of salary will definitely happened because he might not have money to pay workers when the week or month ends. The company will fold when he has use the company's capital funds to gamble. It should be a big concern. Your friend is not speculating but that is the reality. Gambling is not something an employer should attached to himself.

Not an employee's business, right? Let the employer decide for himself, even if you ask why you go to the casino so often you can be fired for interfering in his business.

This concern is of course, in the bankruptcy of the company where we often hear that people who are addicted to gambling will ruin everything, but we never know if this employer is just playing out of boredom, it could be not an addiction, right? Even if the company goes bankrupt, there are still other jobs.

This is coming from a friend who has been with a company that offers both restaurant and catering services for 15 years and is a regular employee.

He is working for his money and what should be of concern to him is if the catering services is being mismanaged and salaries are not coming at frequent like before.

The boss may be gambling responsibly and not gambling with the company's capital as he may have thought,  so he shouldn't worry much if everything concerning the financing of the company is in order.
