For some time now I have been thinking about moving my funds to a hardware wallet or cold storage.

I opened a thread to get advice from experienced users on this subject, so that I can know how to choose the right hardware wallet in this current era.

I really liked the advice from some expert users here and finally I have made a decision I am thinking of buying a Trezor Safe 3 and a Tangem hardware wallet.

I will probably buy it tomorrow.

There are still some questions swirling around in my head that need to be clarified. For example:

A big problem with Tangem is its static address system. In my opinion, privacy is one of the main requirements for using Bitcoin, but here, since one address is used for a long time, it becomes easy to track the entire portfolio.

Suppose, if I send a small amount of Bitcoin to a friend, he can search for my address in blockchain explorer and see how many funds are in my wallet. This seems like a big risk for personal security.

Again, I know Tangem works through a third-party app. What if the company or app goes down in the future? Suppose the app is removed from the Play Store/website or the company goes bankrupt, will it be difficult to restore the wallet to a new phone?

Another thing is, what should I do if my phone's NFC sensor breaks?

From everyone's advice and my own research, I would say that the Trezor Safe 3 is undoubtedly the right choice.

However, there are risks involved in firmware updates, lack of air-gapped features, and the possibility of the USB-C port becoming loose with regular use.

Would it be more reasonable to use Tangem alongside the Trezor Safe 3, or would choosing an air-gapped DIY wallet (like SeedSigner / Krux) be a safer and better decision in the long run?

Just buy a trezor. The best hardware wallet.  Dont overthink.

Trezor has never been hacked before, and it has been tested over more than a decade.
There are no risks in firmware updates or "lack of airgapped features". It has enough security to protect your funds if you use it correctly.

Just only one wallet that you can connect to it? Is Electrum wallet supported? Their party wallet should not be an issue if you can connect wallet of your choice like Sparrow or Electrum.

If you have your seed phrase, you can import it on another wallet to have access to your coins.

For bitcoin and privacy, wallet on an airgapped device is the best. It is also still a cold wallet which are the safest.

Just because of this issue, I would avoid even considering using a wallet like that. I wouldn't even delve deeper into researching that device.

From everyone's advice and my own research, I would say that the Trezor Safe 3 is undoubtedly the right choice.

However, there are risks involved in firmware updates, lack of air-gapped features, and the possibility of the USB-C port becoming loose with regular use.
I've have a Trezor Model T device since 2019, and the USB-C port has never become loose, it works perfectly to this day. I've never had any problems with the device either, it's very hard to find hardware problems in Trezor devices.

Would it be more reasonable to use Tangem alongside the Trezor Safe 3, or would choosing an air-gapped DIY wallet (like SeedSigner / Krux) be a safer and better decision in the long run?
If you can take the time to create your own DIY wallet like the Krux, I'm sure it will be a good experience and learning opportunity. The part is cheap, you can import it from AliExpress for around $40 or $50, but for now, stick with the Trezor Safe 3 or 5.

That was in the past; as of early 2026, the update allowed users to create up to 20 independent accounts (e.g., multiple BTC addresses) within a single wallet. Update your app. Go to settings and add more accounts.

Privacy has been greatly improved if this was your concern.

As a long-time Trezor user [Model One and Safe 3], it's worth every penny [as long as you don't physically abuse it (e.g., mine has chipped parts & scratches)]... You don't have to worry if you properly use the official routes and about the USB-C port becoming loose, mine is still perfect after over a year of use. AFAICR, in the unlikely event of it becoming loose, they'd replace it for you and it's worth noting that the USB-C port on Safe 3 requires a bit of force [source], so I expect it can handle more pressure than other devices with similar ports.

If the choice is between Tangem and Trezor, I would go with a Trezor every time. Even if it's not an airgapped hardware wallet, it provides you with enough security. Honestly, this is the first time I am hearing about issues with the USB-C port becoming loose or breaking on a Trezor. If you only want to store bitcoin on it, I recommend you install the bitcoin-only firmware. But if you are also planning on engaging with altcoins, use the universal firmware.

Airgapped devices like Krux or SeedSiger add another security layer because they are airgapped, but these are bitcoin-only signing devices. Again, if you have altcoins or plan to move them to a hardware wallet, you won't be able to transfer them to a Krux or SeedSigner.

Probably OP meant Tangem cards, because the accompanying Tangem mobile app is capable of connecting to any wallet that supports WalletConnect protocol.

Support for multi‑address UTXO management is included in Q2 roadmap.

P.S. I use Tangem myself and can’t say anything bad about it as this wallet serves me well as an on‑the‑go wallet. For the long‑term storage I use Passport Core.

I would still advise the OP to take the newer T5 model, although there is also a newer version, because hardware wallets are not bought often. I have one and I have no complaints so far.

Is Passport Core no longer for sale or is there still stock left? I saw in the official thread that they shifted all focus to the new model.
