Based on that X post, it's all about using btcrecover in correct/efficient manner. I don't recommend people to trust 3rd party (AI or anything else), when you could just download and run btcrecover on your device. IMO that X user should also thank developer of btcrecover.

P.S. I'm assuming X post doesn't lie or hide any important fact.

There is this comment by an influencer saying "regeneration of keys", https://x.com/infospace_og/status/2054630528398053531, he has more than 90k followers that will be reading the false post.

Just for clearance, this was decryption of password to the wallet and it's not regeneration of keys like he said.

This depend on characters encrypted for the password. From his post, the right password is lol420fuckthePOLICE!* that's 25 characters and with 7 trillion guess. Now imagine how many trials it would have to loop for more characters. It wil likely take more time and more difficulty.

Security wise, this is not a good option, Bitcoin private keys, seed phrase or encrypted password are sensitive that can be stolen by anyone. Just because it's AI doesn't mean it's safe. They aren't even safe when it involves privacy and security.

He was smart to spent the Bitcoin before he posted that, smart move but Claude now has the attention.

Regardless if this is real then their great to help the guy recovered his money. Im betting he paid some for the developer but if it was me I definitely do the same knowing I could get some fortune from my long lost private key and wallet access.

Good lord he never dumped his computer and it has stayed on him, he wouldn't be able to ask assistance from Claude. I think luck was part of it but I think the AI has played the most important role to crack it because it really goes the whole computer digging on it. Claude is really built different and I'm glad that's the one I'm using too, really handy. Now everyone will talk more about Claude, so probably good publicity on it.

The photo is about cracking a Bitcoin private key, not a Bitcoin wallet password. Am I missing anything from the photo attached?
It's like fud if the X post is actually about cracking a Bitcoin private key. Likely a fud to dump Bitcoin market after it passed $80,000 days ago.

If it is about cracking a wallet password, there is no surprise and it depends on computational power as well as how strong a wallet password is.

Apart from recovery, it looks like someone trying to take profit or using the medium to consolidate and also upgrade to Segwit.

This X post sounds like an attention seeking (a)social media post, but anyway. There's some stupidity involved, too, in my opinion and I'll get to it a bit later.

You don't attack passwords of such a length without assuming there are many chunks from a wordlist or other rule-based stuff that you shuffle around. It's not feasible if you'd try to brute-force it symbol by symbol, no way this could be done in any reasonable time.

What immediately put me off: why would anybody sane hand over details for private key decryption to a public AI model where you completely loose control of your input data. Stupid beyond measure...

If the story is true and it worked out the wallet owner. OK, fine with me, but only because it had luckily a happy end. It's just, you should know what you're doing and what data you hand over. If it doesn't end well, don't blame others.

So I just found out that claude can run the btcrecover script directly. Although entrusting a third party is not recommended, this method seems very useful from the perspective of someone who is about to give up.

I still don't understand how he recovered his wallet, sorry. Like he gave his private key to the AI to decrypt it, and what result did he find from the AI that helped him to open his lost wallet, just that? Pretty impressive. Well, if it is just that simple, I am wondering if many other lost wallets will get revived, and their supply will enter the market, and this can make the market volatile.

As we know, a big number of the bitcoin supply is currently locked in dormant wallets, lost wallets, or inactive wallets.
And if all that supply use the same way to recover their wallets, then I think this can shake the market for a moment. Well, I think ClaudAI is better than ChatGPT, as, according to my knowledge, it has also been used in the war against Iran.

There was no password cracking. AI Claude is hyping this story, and its role is, at the very least, slightly exaggerated.

The user's PC contained 2 password-protected files (an old one and a new one) containing a private key. All these years, @cprkrn had been trying to access the new file, the password to which he had lost. In this case, AI Claude only accidentally discovered the old password-protected file containing the private key, which helped decrypt it (the user had the password to this old wallet).

Artificial intelligence isn't capable of guessing complex passwords, much less cracking Bitcoin private keys. It's not certain that even a quantum computer will be able to do something similar in a few years. 🙋

As far as I understand, in this situation, Claude AI simply performed its analytical work well. A professional human analyst would have handled a similar task just as well.

A cryptocurrency enthusiast who lost access to 5 Bitcoins (as far as I understand, he also abused alcohol) provided a Claude AI with a huge personal database. Claude AI discovered a bug in the open-source utility btcrecover. As for the password in question, it was already contained in this database, along with other passwords and random entries. In other words, the task wasn't difficult. It simply required attention and a systematic approach.💁

I am not technical but he's run some script or prompt on claude with some of his files from that wallet I guess.

The process has also been posted on that tweet. The tool btcrecover did the job through claude, cmiiw.

As for checking the address, he moved all of his recovered btc already.

Good to know about the recovery. When this is possible, doesn't the same affect the bitcoin. This guy has provided all the available information and was able to recover the wallet with 5 BTC. As said more people can now recover the lost wallets holding good sum of Bitcoin. just on seeing this thread it reminded me of the Engineer who lost hard drive holding around 8000 BTC in a garbage. Is there any chance of recovering those bitcoins with the claude AI. As of now the locked wallets weren't considered. Now if they were recovered will it not affect the cryptocurrency market.

Claude isn't a miracle tool, but being a machine, it's capable of identifying potential attack points for key recovery. All of this could have been done by someone who knows how to use recovery software. While Claude is very good at these things, it doesn't mean it will be able to recover all forgotten wallet passwords, as that depends entirely on the password's complexity.

So what this 'AI' did was to look through his HDD and find either files or strings of characters that look like passwords and tried them out.  This is not impossible recovery with a human brain that AI was able to turn possible, it is in fact some thing I and any other more experienced person could definitely also do on their own.

Hell.  I would argue it is in fact WAY more secure to do this on your own.  If someone asked Bitcoin Talk to help them out in finding relevant files on their old HDD, I am more than sure they would have had the same result.  Minus dumping their personal drive in a server.

The X post doesn't share any detail (i'm not logged in to X account though). But personally i think that user actually upload the wallet file to the AI and tell the AI his password characteristic. So IMO the AI "magic" is probably using btcrecover in better way than that X user.

It's real I think, because big crypto news companies are talking about it, I read this on a news website that's not X this morning, it means the news is very real.

This person is very lucky, it's better to never find yourself in this position because it's not going to feel good on the long run, the poor guy must have been disturbed because of this 5 Bitcoin many times already.

Maybe he is even struggling with life whoo knows? And a big thanks to those who really helped because, they could lie about it and keep the key to themselves and wait patiently in the far future to finally move those Bitcoin.

Don't ever find yourself in this position, do all you have to do to keep your recovery seed safe.

Not works for most people who wants to try. At least, they must know the code and not in the intermediate level knowledge. Maybe AI can bruteforce the simple password but if the password contain so many different character, that will need more knowledge to command the AI.

Maybe in the future where the technology more advancing, AI can do that although that still need time before AI can get the password. We don't know how AI works get the password but we can create a strong password to prevents.

But luck comes behind the success so he get the password.
