A gambler won't feel that it's dangerous until he's recognized that it's done him more harm than recovery.

I sometimes think that players quite easily fall into the abyss of wagering and do not notice the huge sums they spend on the game. We can dig more into the theory of self-discipline, but in practice we are human, and we should stay humble and admit that even if we know what's right and wrong, we are prone to fail in certain conditions. In my own experience, it is better to set the limit you mentioned, because having an objective value to assess your gambling activity works better than the subjectivity of the self-discipline alone. Not every gambler that chases losses but the simplest and easiest way to escape gambling challenges is just to stay disciplined because if you comport yourself in such a way that nothing will make you to make some regrettable decisions while gambling, you can escape addiction and chasing losses because if you are not disciplined, even if you try to stop chasing losses you will still find yourself doing it over and over again. Budget gambling saves a gambler because he has already portion out an amount to use for gambling so if he exhausts that amount, that's it for him and it still takes discipline to be able to set a budget for gambling and stick to it so that you don't exceed your budget while trying to chase losses.
