I remember there was a time that I will open more than one positions with different coins like BTC, ETH, SOL at different time. I may first start with bitcoin, if I am losing, I can later opens the same directional position with ETH. If I continue to lose, I will finally use SOL to open another position also in the direction of the ones I have opened already.

It has happened in a way before that the market will start going my direction, I will make enough money already which I want to make during the day if I do the average of the 3 positions. This can be as a result of making money from SOL more, followed by ETH, but I am still losing in BTC. Because of that, I will close ETH and SOL position, but leave BTC position, thinking I may also make profit with it also.

I have made enough profit, but later the bitcoin market will be against me and I may lose all the money I have made that day.

It was greed.

Multiple times mate, I can categorically tell you that the most common pairs I use together is actually the BTC pair, then followed by SOL because I have this believe that SOL hardly goes against bitcoin trend and then the third coin is usually those meme coins that usually have xxx1000 value. Most at times it’s I have similar experience with you, due bitcoin volatility it is usually slow and the last before I close and similar I end up losing.
 
I usually question my psychology when this happens and instead of changing my ways i developed a strategy that when it’s only bitcoin left I just actually move my stop loss to my break even if the market is not in loss already just to actually avoid losing but still this didn’t help.

I used to be able to have 5 crypto open positions at the same time, but only in trending markets. But I don't have a condition; if I lose to ETH or BTC, I open a new position with other coins or SOL at the same time.

It is more likely your strategy or the way you trade is riskier. I am no longer a day trader because I hold my entries for 3 days to weeks.

Well, what you did is actually greediness. I don't have a strategy plan for day trading; it is most likely scalping with tight risk that can make profit in day trading.

In my experience, if I have multiple open positions, I only let them go until they reach my target price; I do not close them just to meet a day trading goal. I have strict 1:2 rules and trailing stops once the target price is reached while still securing the 1:2 reward.

I used to close them all at once in the past, but now I don't. I have a specific price target, and if the market doesn't go there and it goes against me, it's considered my mistake and must be reviewed.

Greed is usually the problem of most traders not that they won't make enough profits while trading but you would see them being that strict on their position to make sure they have earned what they were expecting. To me Opening 3 different positions is actually good and before you do that it's assumed that you really have a price target where the price would reach before you could be closing your position. When that profit is earned for the day then I will close even though the market is still going on my direction I would do that to protect my equity and make sure that I didn't lose more than expected. If you wanna know how to overcome greed just set a maximum profit limits for the day and also set maximum lost limit and when they are achieved then you can close your position without aggressively losing more than expected.. although it's actually tempting anyway when you are trading and you see that you are on profits to exit the market could be that hard for you except someone who is extremely principled about their target while trading.

If you keep doing this, you're going to hit a multi-day market bleed where all your chosen coins dump together. You’ll end up trapped in those positions, holding heavy bags for years just waiting to break even

The major thing that has made a lot of traders lose money to the market is greed. When you're greedy, you wouldn't appreciate the little profits you have made and close your position until your trade goes against you. I have fallen for this before and I lost it all because I didn't take profit.

It's difficult to make profits in trading, if you have already made little be happy and appreciate it because the big profit you are looking for wouldn't come your way on that trade since, you're trading in a volatile market.

This your pattern is something I have not tried before, I believe you are talking about features trading here, right? I have not carried out this kind of exercise in futures option but before I start futures trading, I was just doing leveraging on spot trade,  so I would buy a coin and wait for the price to just increase a little and then I will take the small profit I could get, but if after buying a coin and the price starts going against me, I will sell it off and then buy another one that I think will do better and sometimes I get profit while I lose even the profit I already made. Since I started future trading, I have not tried such pattern because it's risky.

I totally agree with what you said. In trading people call it Revenge Trading and the Loser Average mindset, which can wipe out your portfolio.

I made the mistake when I first started trading. When Bitcoin went down I thought Ethereum or Solana would bounce back quickly.. The connection between coins, in the crypto market is really strong. When Bitcoin drops the other altcoins fall harder.

When Solana and Ethereum were making me money I would hold on to my losing Bitcoin position because of greed.

The result was that the market would keep going and take away all my profit.

Now I have a rule When I reach my daily profit goal or hit my stop loss I close all positions and shut down my computer.

To do well in the market you need to be disciplined, not greedy.

I like the fact you know already that this strategy is a greedy move be it in spot or leverage trading because loss here, could be felt more if one coin, say BTC happens to lose after Sol and Eth hit a profit and then the loss overshadows the profit made.
The best disciplined approach is to have a target amount of profit to be made from opening the various positions and once you can hit it from maybe two or one of the coins out of three, you clear the screen and go do something else, instead of waiting for the final results and suffering more loss than intended.

Well, I certainly find this a more risky kind of trading myself and never tried it to be frank, but being in the trading game could make you understand a thing or two about some certain turnout of events and that's more like this.

No I haven't tried the strategy or the plan that you shared to us. I've tried opening a position for all 3 of them though, but instead of what you did, I tried to do it at the same time.

I'm doing it because I want to maximize the profits that I could get because if my analysis is right and Bitcoin went the direction I wanted to, I'm making at least three times more because I opened on ETH and SOL as well. The flip side though is that, it also adds more risk because of the fact that it could go the opposite way and that could make me lose 3x more that's why when I'm doing this, I'm not opening positions anymore after I close those position whether it's a lose or a win.

Anyway, thanks for sharing some experiences of yours. Of course, this helps newbies and prevent them from losing more money. Also they will know what and what not to do in the future. Greedy is one of the main reason why many traders lose money that's why many are recommending to just focus on 1:1 RR with a high win-rate.

Although I see from your posts that you have a lot of experience in trading, unfortunately you lost, and the reason is most likely greed and using multi-asset trading to compensate for the loss, which is a very dangerous method because it depends on increasing the risk and expanding the number of trades.

I don't want to give advice here, but I believe you could have come out with a smaller loss or perhaps a profit if you had closed the losing trade instead of letting it "rot" or if you had set a fixed Stop Loss instead of opening a new trade to compensate for the previous one.

As I understand it, you'll only lose money on Bitcoin if you sell when the price is lower than you bought it. So, just hold your Bitcoin if the price drops. Moreover, you've already made a profit on ETH and SOL, so holding longer shouldn't be a problem. Although I know day traders always close their positions daily, I think switching to a longer term option would be better.

That is right but most time you should also reason whether if the trader has enough fund to sustain him for long position without getting liquidated this is the reason why most people do short trade or do day trading.

So, if he losing on BTC then he would exit and hold on to it while the price gets back it's previous position, but he can keep trading on the Altcoin that he was making profits from.

I'm actually embarrassed to even remember how greedy I was when I traded.
It's the reason why I eventually gave up on it, I simply don't have the mind control necessary for that.

Also I found trading more merciless now that in the old Bitmex/Deribit days.
Days like 10th of October, 2025 didn't punish the greedy ones, they punished literally everyone and there's still no investigation into how it even happened. Furthermore, the industry behaved like nothing even happened.

I am into forex trading before entering the market I do calculate my risk to reward ratiio which must be a least 1:2 in order word once price hit double profit of my risk I will Take profit to avoid greediness consequently I quit the market and wouldn't border if price continue in my direction or not because in some previous trading session when I trade without Take profit just to accumulate as much profits  as a day trader unfortunately price do retraces and hit my Stop Loss after moving considerable in my intended direction and there are times when price moves five fold profit of risk after taking my profit at double profit so in a nutshell I gave to be disciplined and control my emotion while trading

I often hear people tagging what they shouldn't have tagged as greed, and I am happy to tell you that you are not greedy, except you just didn't know what you were doing. If you knew what you were doing, and everything were well-planned, that's no greed, it's just another fateful market day, which could be positive or negative. If you'd continued that way, I'm sure you would have had some good days too, except you entered the market blindly. Also, it's your choice to do otherwise if you experienced too many losses doing that. Everything is about your trading prowess.

This is a typical attitude of a trader that have not figured out a strategy to use or one that lack the discipline to stick to his strategy. I have been in this situation many times in my early stage of trading and it did not help me in anyway... if I make money in one of the trade, the money is lost in the other and at the end I lose. It is a bad habit and something a serious trader should never do to avoid blowing his account. It is the same thing as chasing loss, it exposes the account to the risk of margin call.

I won't deny I was that greedy way back then, but I learned to correct myself as I go on learning from trading. However, opening multiple trading positions can be beneficial in terms of scaling in/out, diversification, and testing strategies, but that could also amplify the possible losses especially if the total risk is not managed well. That's why I don't suggest beginners to open multiple positions as it will be too risky for them.

But if you find yourself getting challenge on it, just makes sure to calculate your total risk, use stop losses and avoid counter-trading. These risk management principles can be helpful if one decides to open multiple trading positions.
