At first, I didn't see it as something so meaningful or important to me but what just triggered me is that this could be the way lot of people are classifying those who gambles, and to be sincere if such person had any chance of recommending people to work when he noticed you are a gambler that he wouldn't care about the person anymore as such person could used the organization money or company money to gamble with the hope of replacing back before company could take records of what happened.
That is the taboo of the society that is never changing with how they look at the gamblers. And that's because they give the rolling eyes on someone whenever they know they are a gambler. This is not a big deal to me but, I've been in the same dilemma before and can't understand why they always like that. We're not the likes of those gamblers who became addicted and have to sell everything, the huge impact of gambling that made their lives miserable. The way they look is that as if you're someone with a contagious virus. Got used to that and it shows why many are simply ignoring them.

There is a difference between someone that is addicted to gambling and a regular gambler but for people that don't understand this they assume that every gambler out there is addicted to Gambling or irresponsible and that's totally wrong. Not everyone that gambles takes drugs or use all they have to stake. One thing you cannot do is to change the ideas of people that have fixed their mind on believing a particular thing. Not all gamblers are irresponsible and that is a fact some gamblers are disciplined and they don't gamble carelessly

What would you do to such person? Unfriend him or distance him because he doesn't follow the same way with you or you would totally ignore him because he doesn't have experience and doesn't know what Gambling is all about?
Each person has the right to have a different mindset, including the mindset about gambling. Also, we must accept it if he said something true. As long as he only advice you and he doesn't force you, I think there is no need to decide "unfriend" or keep a distance from him. According to your story above, he wants to you to realize the bad side of gambling. He doesn't invite you to do bad things. So why you need to unfriend him? Even someone has no experience in gambling, he may know it from reading the experiences of other people. Having the knowledge about gambling, it doesn't mean someone must to be a gambler. There are many ways to have the knowledge. Moreover in the modern era that we have too many media for learning.

Don't be affected with people who share different perspective on you, if gambling has not made your life miserable and has never proven to be a destruction on your part, then there's no reason that you will let those critics hurt you.
However, I think he ended up with that kind of mindset due to the environment he was exposed to. He probably seen gamblers wasting their time and money, yet in return they only end up with financial crisis and damaged relationships. But he forgot to realized that gambling is just a tool, its how the gamblers approached gambling that is at fault here.
People who gamble shouldn't be identified as irresponsible, but irresponsible people who often gamble for instant money are clearly gambling blindly.

It's normal, so don't take it so seriously, because it stigmatizes many things, associating gambling with bad things, associating tattoos with bad people, etc. You can't change the world, just pay attention to those who talk to you about gambling as advice. For example, if they see you betting too much, they might tell you to stop for a while because you're wasting money, or something like that. It's valid advice, but leave those who prejudge as they are and ignore their comments. If you get into a debate with them, it would be a total waste of your time.

Personally, I don't need to hear what people like that say, which means I won't pay any attention to them. Their opinion that "gambling is for the desperate" is wrong, because gambling is essentially for "entertainment." Well, I don't really like people who easily classify every gambler as irresponsible. This negative assumption also exists in my environment, and they generalize all gamblers as irresponsible people. To answer your question: I won't unfriend him, but I won't talk to him about gambling. Because I think he will just have that view, especially if he doesn't want to hear my explanation. By the way, I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but that doesn't mean he can interfere in mine. In essence, it is just a matter of personal rights.

Can't think of anything but I guess I leave him with his principle and respect it. I think the best way is to do nothing at all because you don't owe them an explanation in the first place. We all have differences and I think respect is that boundary that separates us. Most had their opinions but those who doesn't have experience themselves are those who blab more but I think they can't talk about gambling like that when they experience the feeling.

People just like putting every gambler inside the same box as if everybody doing betting is automatically addicted or irresponsible, which is not true at all. People do actually gamble casually for entertainment, set limits for themselves and still handle their normal responsibilities without issues. It is only when someone lose control and starts chasing losses or using money they can’t afford to lose. That’s when it becomes addiction and starts affecting their life.

I was actually ashamed of myself when I was discussing with someone about gambling and the next person behind us wasn't a gambler and he picked the talk that " we are just wasting our money to the gambling site that they knows what they are doing". He adds more; that gambling are for the hopeless people that whenever they have seek for jobs and if they don't have any they would turned back their hands to try gambling if that would favor them or likely change their entire life story and history that he doesn't like associating with those who gambles that they could go to any lengths for them to gamble.

Share your thoughts and opinions. I think it depends a lot on the type of conversation you were having when that person was around. Answer me... were you talking about technique and strategy, or just talking about values, the amount wagered, and how much you lost/won? If the focus of the conversation was money, then that person is right to have said that. But if you were talking about aspects of the game, then they may have misunderstood you and have a habit of negatively generalizing about those who gamble. The best thing you can do is not to comment on gambling publicly or to people who are not very close to you, well... if they have nothing to help you with, why do they need to know?

That happen because gambling had very bad reputation to people especially for non gamblers. Some people find it hard to digest and they generalize that all gamblers are bad.
This is why instead of talking about gambling to your peers, much better to keep it for yourself. With that you can avoid those judgement and other discouraging words. Don't expect people will easily understand your point because people have different level of understanding. But if you really want to talk about gambling choose the right people to discuss about this topic.
Yes, people makes gambling to look like a bad thing because of the way they think of it and this makes some people to have bad reviews of it and this will make them to destroy their lives the more and that of their loved ones as well. And this will also cause them to become addicted, that's why gamblers are to gamble rightly and do things differently, not for any selfish reasons but for fun or be entertained by it, doing that will make them not to fall into the traps of getting addicted to gambling.

There must be a reason for that impression. If people in the community perceive gamblers as irresponsible, perhaps the community noticed that gamblers are indeed generally irresponsible. If the perception of the community is that gamblers rely on luck to try change their lot in life, then perhaps the general behavior of gamblers in the community is that they're playing for the sake of making badly-needed money.
From where I am, I find no wrong about such perception, precisely because most gamblers here are indeed gambling while hoping that they could make big money from it to change their lives.

No need to unfriend him or distance him but don't meet him very often is the thing you can do and tells him that you are busy with your activities. We are not leaves him because who knows someday he will help while nobody can so we still have friend who come to us when we have a problem.
He will understand and not meet you very often as he know both of you have different activities. He will do his activities and still considers that we are one of his friend.

The word GAMBLING is very irresponsible to those people who dont want to have fun with gambling. They dont see excitement on gambling and just saw it as waste of money, waste of time and nothing good to get. Well, they are seeing the truth for those people who has no control and think gambling is a shortcut in a good life. Those people who judge the gamblers saw many people around them that affected their life and families because they got addicted to it and did not control the flaw.
Gamblers are irresponsible if they let it happen.

Whether or not to gamble is an independent choice for each person. We must respect this choice, even if we know they will lose money. Unless it means financial disaster, they are satisfying an important need. For example, they are improving their risk management skills. A person may have an extremely confused worldview and childish, naive ideas about life, probability, luck, and risk, which makes them undeveloped. By losing money, you gain experience. And we have no right to hinder a person's development.

I dont think that you should unfriend a person solely based on his negative experiences/thinking about gambling. Gambling isnt the characteristic of a saint so don’t expect everyone to talk in favor of gambling. What he said is mostly true and is hard to accept by gamblers that’s why you felt this way. You tell me, why do people gamble?? Is it not because they have false hopes of changing their whole financial situation but they end up loosing, the people who gamble just for fun also start betting egoistically and they lose more too. So i don’t think he’s wrong.

100 people will say 100 different things. We just need to ignore the distractions and focus on what we are currently doing. I am not saying gambling is the best thing to do, but yes, anything done within limits can be controlled and can be made profitable. Generally, in society, gambling is considered an addiction because of some people. We hear many stories every day about losses due to gambling, but if someone wins, we rarely hear news about their winnings. Hence, people think gambling always means risking and losing money. If you do proper risk management while gambling it can be fine and no big losses will happen.

What I do with my free time and money is my business alone, if a friend decides that I am less of a person because they found out that I gamble then it's best for them to only be friends with people who share their type of mentality, if a person has that kind of view on everybody who gambles then there is no way for you to explain your way out of it, they've probably seen someone close to them lose everything due to gambling which is where their mindset comes from and you cannot blame them for that, it's better to just leave them be.

The honest truth is what the guy has just told you, many people in the society that is how they normally see gambler's and all this is as a result of how most people's gamble, they allow gamble that was surposed to be just for fun to be another thing to them. However, unfriending such person wouldn't be necessary because the person in question that you wanted to unfriend had already unfriend you long before now so what is the point. Furthermore, the thing there is that if an individual I mean a gambler is doing the right thing as in gambling responsible, then I don't think he should be worried or concerned about people's opinions about him, is only when you have already given them the reasons to condemn you that you have an issue otherwise to me my opinion about myself is what matters to me because I really don't give a damn about what people say behind me.

I hate it when people generalized things because one person behaved badly. Before now I have this strong feeling that most see those who gamble as jobless and hopeless people. And the reason why I won't blame them is because, if you look at society today most people you see in gambling halls are truly hopeless and jobless people. So, I see fact he what he said. However, not all gamblers are hopeless people and jobless people as your friend assumed.
I think not all gamblers they maybe pertaining into someone that they already knew what is happening to them, if the person is successful in gambling they will not judge them, but if you are miserable in gambling what do you expect they would say to you, its what the result that they are looking or what is happening into your life. If you are able to survive and make a living in gamble you are not irresponsible but if you make your family hungry then able to gamble daily your irresponsible even with someone who have not seen you in flesh, some people think its generalized because they were hurt and they are in the bad side of the situation.

Well, not everyone will agree to ur world view, some of ur friends will not agree with ur lifestyle, but dat doesn't mean u should stop being friends. A friend who'll not recommend u for something good cause ur a gambler doesn't like u, whether ur gambling or not, dey won't recommend u period. I don't like smokers cause dey tend to be violent unnecessarily a times, but I have a lot of friends and close ones who smokes dat I stretch out a helping hands to. So don't distance urself cause dey don't like ur gambling habits, but rather because dey are not good people.
