[UFC 329] Conor McGregor vs Max Holloway

Oh I thought it was first time fight, and I also thought that this Holloway guy was some new young blood but now that I understand he's also a veteran fella and around the same age as Connor... so I have got expectations changed for the fight now... earlier I thought Connor is likely gonna get thrashed due to his age, now I think it'll be competitive.

Nope, they are old blood, and I have a feeling the fight will be very different from their first one, as both have matured and have gone through a lot of fights, but the spotlight will be on McGregor because of his long inactivity. Many have advised him to cherry-pick before he gets into a tough match, but instead, he chose a dangerous road and one of the most dangerous fighters, Holloway, who is coming from a tough match just this March.

McGregor will stil be the favorite here but this one can easily get upset win because we will never know before hand the actual performance of these 2 boxers. So we are just left with the speculation that McGregor can easily defeat him. But of course, there will be equal chances if both camps will be training hard. At least give a toe-toe fight to give those fans a very competitive game.

edit - seemed that Holloway is quite the favorite here though.. And the betting line if this will go the distance says NO - seemed that bookies are not expecting this to last.

He is not. I checked odds earlier and Holloway is favorite (2.67/1.43 — Connor/Holloway). I thought I am gonna bet on Holloway if odds are good enough but nah.

So we are just left with the speculation that McGregor can easily defeat him.

I haven't watched the Odss fights, but McGregor will be the underdog here. Why would he be the favorite? He's injured and hasn't fought in a long time. Halloween, on the other hand, has been consistently fighting and has put in some great fights, whether he won or lost. While McGregor is incredibly talented, he hasn't fought in a long time, so I don't expect a great fight from him.

For me worst scenario is to lose by injury or stoppage while sitting on the stool means: 1) you havent shown everything you had prepared, injury forced you to quit 2) you were preparing for next round, mentally you were ready to continue, but someone tell you to quit. Losing by submission or (T)KO means your opponent was better and that is a fair loss. You lose because opponent was better, not because someone (team, doctor) made you quit, your body decided that you must quit (injury), or judges decided that someone is better, even though you disagree to that.

Oh, c'mon, if you got the injury, what are you gonna do? Get a damage that will permanently ruin your life? Or get yourself killed? If injury forces you to quit, you should quit and there is nothing wrong with this. This type of loss also means that your opponent was better and it's a fair loss too.
Fight is a dangerous business. The amount of damage these fighters get, it's terrible. It also takes huge balls to enter the octagon and fight in front of a professional fighter who is willing to harm you in every possible way. So just because of this, I think that any type of loss, including stoppage on the stool, losing by injury and so on, are normal and part of the game. None of them are worst case scenarios. The worst case scenario is when you get a brutal permanent damage or die.

And I think that precisely because of his recent fight, Holloway was chosen over Connor. This way, he'll have more material than his opponent to analyze and train with, thinking precisely about what to do. While Holloway has nothing to analyze and will only focus on his own game.

I want McGregor to win and I wouldn’t bet against him, but honestly, I think that if I were trying to predict the outcome, I would guess that Max Holloway beats him up pretty bad and wins by decision, effectively ending Conor’s career. I hope that isn’t what happens, but that’s what I think probably will.

This sparring partner is saying that he is today better than he was 5 years ago? It is hard to believe in that. I dont think that guy could have said differently or truth. I dont think he would say that Conor is worse than he was and is in bad shape Saying this means he wont be called for next camp and paid This is so common for training partners, coaches or anyone around fighter to tell that today he is much better than he was last time

I think it's obvious though, we haven't heard anything bad from any sparring partner in the past as they are being paid handsomely to be their in the first place. Conor though hasn't lost his trash talking during the final press conference and trying to intimidate Max.

But the real deal is in the ring itself, despite what the training partners will say, when everything is done pre-fight, it will be just this two fighters in the ring. So just less than 24 hours and we will find it out if Conor still has it, or truly done with this sports.

At least in interviews and face-offs he looks physically fit; he doesn't look like an old man who just returned to fighting a month ago, like me and most people who follow him. It remains to be seen if he has the stamina to endure a fight of this kind.

Tomorrow is the day we’ve been waiting for. The most entertaining UFC fighter of all time is stepping back into the ring. I hope we get a good fight. If not, at least Paddy is on the card as well. One of those fights should prove to be worth watching. I’ll be watching with a big smile on my face.

One thing is certain. He has changed his lifestyle, at least for the cameras. During his past fight preparations, he used to party a lot. Now, watching the pre-fight press conference, I saw he came with his four kids, composed and determined, and it looks like he has traded his old party lifestyle to prepare for this fight. He also keeps praising Jesus, which wasn't something you used to hear from him in the past. In some interviews from within the McGregor team, the rumor is that Conor has prepared for the ground game.

Most definitely. He McGregor made a promise to his four kids already of how they're meant to he great and he will be fighting for them all and the people of Ireland. He had a great past but after five years, can he still show he is that guy?! I don't think it is about money  he just wants to showcase his return. It sure will be an interesting fight. I love the cold response from Max though, let's see if he gets schooled again by his daddy Gregor.

I'm also sure that he is much more serious this time than before, he even said that he has abstained from any physical touch and activity (i.e. he doesn't have any contact with his wife or other women), which really requires serious discipline and self-control, especially when you are a healthy male with high testosterone (I assume he is, he is lean and has some muscles and athlete's lifestyle is healthy, you can't fight well without this hormone). But here is the thing, will it help him to cover the gap that he had? He didn't become a better fighter because that's impossible, he had a 5 years pause while Max Holloway was fighting during these 5 years, gained more experience and was active all the time.
Let's see what awaits us tomorrow. I personally bet on Max Holloway but honestly, I'll be very happy if Conor wins.

I am with you. So much hype and then we got this nonsense. I wonder if the injury is even real or just something he came up with to safe face cause he knew he would go down. Sure that's a lot of speculation but with the Mac you never know what you are getting. Good payday for just a couple of seconds of fighting.

Imagine being in the arena or buying the pay per view just to see both main event fights end in under 1 minute. I would be so pissed.

UFC and Paramount will do calculations first to tell if Conor is still a milking cow. His last two performances in UFC are so, that many would now think twice before buying tickets and subscription. 100% many were not satisfied with what they got. Before his previous fights, there were much mo noise in media about it, now media was strangely silent. Even his movie performance was discussed more before and after movie came out. After this fight, people would talk more about his injury instead of what fighter he is.
