When did car manufacturers stop with more custom builds.

Just a rant and yeah I know, 1st world well off person problems.

But, my lease is coming up and I'm looking to get a bit nicer car.
Before the car I have now (Ioniq5) I had a Honda Accord before that a Chrysler 200 and so on. Basic middle of the road sedans. Even the Ioniq although an EV is still an average smaller SUV.

Now, I want something a bit nicer.
But if you want a sunroof you have to get the package with a bunch of other things some of which I may want, some of which I may actually like. But, do I really need heated rear seats and all the other crap.

Oh, you want the heads up display, that only comes with the 1,600 watt, 25 speakers stereo. Yeah, not gonna happen.

Going back to an Accord at this rate.

End rant. But this really used to be easier.

And yeah, I put this in the P&S because although not P related, is is definitely S related since people are just getting what manufacturers give them instead of what they want. When did we start accepting this?

I doubt they are taking any custom changes for basic models that is only possible for luxury and expensive shits. But it is possible with aftermarket dealers which doesn't even make a change in the warranty and other stuffs if the person knows what they are doing.

To answer, when do I accept that is normal, when I accept the fact that making money is more important than anything.

Honestly it's true because if someone has budget or patience, alot of car makers will let custom order be you luxury models. But the important thing is that customisation is not just about money instead it involves factory options, delay and what the manufacturer formally permitted. See some changes comes as standard options while others requires custom order. So even the regular SUV has personal touch so long as you're following the right channel and also understands the limits that is being set by the company.

The German Tiger Tank of WW2 was custom built except for the basics. The Sherman was totally mass manufactured. That's one of the reasons Germany lost. Couldn't keep up with production.

If you have enough money, Mercedes Benz will make it just the way you like, and make it work, as well.

In this modern world there's no car customisation that could be given tonne small immediately the word "a custom car" is attached to it. The specifics alone as something only you wants makes it sound like luxury and hence could still cost much. Am not even sure automobile producers would want to take contract to customize something that doesn't look luxurious.

Well all the ones I looked at, be in MB, Caddy, Acura and a few others you could get some things as a one off, say a sunroof but you had to take certain trims and even other options, but if you wanted the Heads Up Display, it only came as part of the tech pack.

The higher end stuff, Porsche, higher end MB, higher end BMW and a couple of others it could be done. But at that point you are looking at close to $100k and no I'm not spending that much.

Even Hyundai, if I want to just get another Ioniq5 and get one with the HUD I need to get the limited trim, which yet again comes with a ton of crap I don't need or want.

In the end, it is what it is, just I remember "back in the day" getting a cheap ass Dodge Shadow off the lot because I needed a car NOW. Had I been able to wait a month or so I could have had Dodge spit one out of the factory equipped with only what I wanted.

Just needed to rant.

Oh, and nothing to do with anything else, and about $100k over my price range for the top end model. Yes it's cool.
