Is altseason really starting or just another short pump?

Lately many alts have started moving again after BTC slowed down near resistance. Some people are already calling it the start of altseason, but honestly I’m still not fully convinced yet. BTC dominance is still holding pretty strong, and in previous cycles we also saw many short alt pumps before liquidity moved back into Bitcoin again. At the same time, TOTAL2 is looking much better compared to the last few weeks. Bigger alts are slowly getting volume again and market sentiment also feels more positive now.

For me, real altseason starts when mid and low caps can actually hold gains instead of pumping hard for 1 or 2 days and then dumping everything back.

Right now it feels more like early rotation than full altseason.

What do you guys think?

Honestly, I don't see where the idea of this thread is coming from, I just checked coinmarketcap and can't find or see any reason to want to think or even assume that there is a potential altseason brewing, because right now, bitcoin is in the red and so also is the majority of the altcoins in the front or first page of cmc.

I am actually curious to know why you came up with this thread, because nothing in the current market situation or condition suggests any potentials for altseason any moment from now, infact, the market is currently dumping, it's only a very few number or handful of altcoins that are showing some green and nothing more.

If you ask me, I honestly don't see any thing that resembles altseason happening right now or in the very near future, going by the crypto circle I believe many of us here are well familiar with, this year and 2027 are supposed to be a full blown bear season, so I am honestly not looking forward to any surprise altseason this year or next until bitcoin reaches a new all time high.

It doesn't always work out but I'm afraid this is the time.
Most altcoins are back into reaccumulation ranges. Some even reached their all-time lows again (i.e. Magic Eden).

Seems like geopolitical instability will last longer and hence no good action for altcoins either.

Before concluding that there is an alt season, there needs to be quite a lot of those altcoins pumping so hard but instead, when one or two altcoins experience a pump, I see people speculating about alt season meanwhile it just a very few coin that experienced this surge, seasons are not the same as previous years, there's no special alt season after Bitcoin bull season, we already experienced small pumps in some of these altcoins during the time Bitcoin was at its peak but right now, I feel these altcoins are just surviving, especially the ones that still have good team.  There's no alt season right now, just a hype.

Well lot of people discussed about altseason but my opinion it seems there will be no altseason atleast for now maybe next year. if you know that altseason to trigger, Bitcoin Dominance needs to fall off a cliff. Right now, it is doing the exact opposite. The Altseason Index is currently hovering around 28.6%, which means only a small handful of top 50 alts like Zcash or Bittensor are actually outperforming BTC over a 90-day window. To declare a real altseason, that index needs to cross 75%.

When in the past has altcoin season started in 7 months after bitcoin's 4 year cycle has triggered another bear market? Zoom back. And i am not saying that some alts couldn't thrive this time, but that's not what altcoin season is.

It's the bag holders of altcoins that want their exist who are shouting loudest so that anyone would pump their bags. Imho hyping small pumps it's as dumb as panicking when markets dip. But each to their own.

Who said it would be altseason? what is happening in the market now is a form of price consolidation where looking for resistance prices then back to correction and this is a very natural situation in the market now, currently the market is still in a bearish state at least for a full year because we are in the early state of the 4-year bitcoin cycle which as usual from time to time the first year of the cycle becomes a bearish market, I hope you can know that, so be careful, the increase in this market is not about alteseason.

What is with May anyway? Could be that they just rhyme? Hmm.. But it can also be on March, like '' Sell on March and March''. Or it can as well be in September. You know " Sell and then wake me up when September ends'' lol. I got that from a song though.

We are long bear though. In fact, the price should start to rise now, although it did though last time but prolly there is just some correction that is happening for a while. Never heard of that coin Magic Eden but maybe it is only exiting the market. So we must be careful on which we are picking. To be safe, it is best to pick the known ones because they are likely to continue for more years.

Let us accept it that there is no alt season that's happening now. If some alts are pumping, that's just some casual pump and not the alt season that everyone is waiting for.

Possibly that it has ended as well.

Don't be too optimistic with the few alts moving up because that happens even in a bear market.

I believe strongly that investors are just bored because of the way Bitcoin has been leaning towards a more sideways grind making it's current price stand look more like a bull trap, but to get the best out of every season is to understand what the current metrics and data says.

The way to detect a true altseason starts with a stable post breakout range and Bitcoin's dominance breaking new highs and may mean it breaks below 55% and stay there, while ETF outflows seize to flow at the moment.
I wouldn't advise rushing into altcoins because of hype and early rotation because real profit will be better guaranteed when the metrics
 actually confirms the trend.

yes it could be possible, the sad thing is that wild speculation from saturated investors saying that bullish and also altseason which according to existing data that we are in a bearish state, they are too early to say that and in my opinion they make it seem as if it is all a movement to return to the trend when it could be a bull trap or just a price consolidation, or even people who speculate are just spreading fomo to attract more people to enter at this time to become their exit liquidity.

In a bear market, you have to be careful and every piece of information needs to be digested repeatedly, talking about outflows and inflows from ETFs or from institutions or even from retail I think all of that is just a short-term measure, it's better to focus on buying price targets to accumulate at the lowest price this year.

I suppose summer months tend to be illiquid so May is a good month to orchestrate an exit pump. It played out way too many times in crypto. Unfortunately, this time seems to be no different with many coins across the board pumping 100% or more in May and now all of them violently dumping back into the February-April range.

Still hoping it's just a shakeout though.

The bitcoin market has not being so stable and everything looks to be very complicated and until we see a clear direction of the market can we point out an altseason or probable starts of it. The market has been so much volatile lately and hasn’t shown a clear direction for quite a long time of recent, until then, let the speculation remains and the market continues to show a clear path before concluding.

And... another investor who's daydreaming of an altcoin season yet again.

Just for context, we are in a bear market, and those pumps that you're seeing are just temporary pumps, and they will not hold for too long. Sooner, the market will go down like what's happening right now. Those pumps that you are seeing aren't enough for the whole market to turn from a bear market to a bull market. Heck, I haven't seen the market going into that phase at all. Altcoin season? It will happen again during the bull run season ONLY... or it might not even happen during that time for many reasons such as lack of new money being injected, something that's sucking up the liquidity like what pump.fun did during the 2025 bull year, or whatever reason it is.

There's no altcoin season for this year or in the next 2 years. If the 4 year cycle is still in tact, the next bull run cycle will happen in 2029, and that year might be the time where the altcoin season will start as well.

To be honest, I have also put a bit of money into a few altcoin and used to hope for an altseason. But at this point, I would say just forget about altseason. The cycle has changed, the market has changed, and we need to face the reality that there will be no more altcoin season.

Do not be stubborn, face reality and adapt to change instead of clinging to unrealistic hope. If the market is not moving the way we want, the right thing to do is adjust our strategy, manage risk better and focus on what is actually happening. Do not expect or put your faith in vague things. That is just a waste of time.
