I am aware that cockfighting is popular in the Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, and Indonesia. I never knew it existed in the US until I did a search and saw that it also happens in Puerto Rico. People might claim that there is nothing wrong with the sport by giving examples of violent sports like boxing and others. In boxing, the boxers earn money for their subjection to pain, injuries, and even death. But these animals are being exploited while humans benefit from their suffering.

If cockfighting is illegal in that jurisdiction, let all of them who are part of it be charged. Those found guilty should be punished based on the level they got involved.

I have never seen any cockfighting match or gambling in my area.

That happens here in the past, people like to gambling in one place and gather with so many people involved. There was a time when I didn't really see any problem ok supporting this game but as I began to think about how dangerous it can be I knew by some people stopped adding cock fighting on their list of games because some have been able to witness how dangerous it can be especially when they get out of control, people might get injured. One country in particular, the Philippines has been known to have history of cockfighting and up to now, the supposedly leader and mastermind of the killings of cockfighters are still hiding. So that is the dangers of cockfighting as they want to control everything.

This could also be similar to backyard fighting of dogs? As it is illegal and anyone caught will stay in jail. However, there are still people who take risk in this kind of animal cruelty and call it sports just to make money and gamble.

Cockfighting is very popular too in my country. It’s legal if done on official cockpit but there’s always a local makeshift cockpit on every province here that being organized illegally during Sundays by a group of small people.

We have like this on our neighborhood during my childhood and they keep being bust by local authorities but keep coming back since the fine  is small.

Now, people preferred coliseum type cockpit since its air conditioned and at the same time legal with just small entrance fee.

People should know that the roosters in cockfighting are sustaining njuries just for human gambling and money making, but which is bad for animality. It is good for the government to against it and make it illegal. Not just cockfighting, but also other ones that animals are suffering with injuries because of gambling.

In our case in the Philippines, the cockfigting gambling is quite famous and attached to some big names rich people or even politicians. I wish the same case could be done like the in the post of OP. However with the nature its been happening here for the past years its quite impossible to do so.

I think that it is cruelty to put two animals into fierce fightings just to entertain themselves and they also stake bets on these animals that are forcefully staged to fight themselves. I understand that this cock fighting is legal in some countries, maybe it's a part of their traditional games to watch cocks go at each other but I don't find such a sport amusing because the cocks are setup to fight each other, it's not like they decided to put up a show for everybody.

If these cocks gave their consent to fight each other that would be a different case but it is impossible because they are animals so I don't support such a sport to be allowed. If anyone has watched where roosters are fighting you should know very well that they do get injuries, or even suddenly death, this is inhuman because those fights were been forced.

I could say that horse racing is better but that's not also true because humans do use drugs on them also, there is nothing that we humans haven't or presently not abusing.

If what gives you joy causes arm or injury to a third party, I don't know why you should continue in it just because you're having fun and a third party is suffering from what you tag as fun. In a modern world, cruelty against animal is an offence and if you're gambling on such, it's against the law and normal that legal action be taken against you.

It's just like kid boxing that gets really extreme. While people see it as entertainment and will dare to bet on it, I still see it as inhumane because there's nothing really good about subjecting kids to that level of torture and tagging such a sports that people sit back to watch and even gamble on.

Anyway, cockfighting is very legal in our country as long as they're registered, but even though it's legal, there are some illegal ones that are being raided. It's the animals that are involved here, and unfortunately I'm against fighting on them even they're just chickens, but it is what it is. People are happy to see an animal dying because they put a bet on the opposing animal. How cruel they are. I've seen some illegal cockfighting operation that are being raided by the authorities here in our country, but unfortunately, there are only few people that are being arrested.

I don't know that cock fights exits in the US, maybe that's because they were banned, I don't see anyone doing it in my country either or maybe I just don't know? There is no ban on any solar activities like cock fight here but it seems that people aren't just interested, this is a very common game in Vietnam and Mexico.

This is what you get when you try to play smart, thinking you could outsmart the law. Because I'm still wondering why will the organizers choose Connecticut as the venue for the Cockfighting after knowing fully well that it is illegal and a crime in that state, tagged for animal cruelty, but yet it's sad they couldn't organize the game in a neutral ground where cock fighting is legal like places "Dominican Republic" where such fighting is generally acceptable as a game and also for fun. Including other places like Cuba, Mexico and Philippines where they never would have had any problem organizing their cockfighting. But yet they chose Connecticut and now facing the law.

Privacy of rings, on other hand, is kind of like complete make believe privacy to me. People think that if there is operation underground, or in pit that is not currently running, there is no way law can get to them. The only story I can remember when cockfighting is involved is my father.

He was a US citizen, and then his green card permit was revoked because he could not gamble in cockfighting there. He stayed for a long time in our country and didn't come back to the US. He chose gambling and taking care of his rooster, breeding them, and going to cockpits to gamble. It's a waste, but it was his choice. All his brothers and sisters are US citizens up until now, while he was not able to come back there until he died.

I guess that's one of the reasons why he came back. He cannot do what he wants there, or maybe he did, but illegally.

I watched a session of cockfighting from a long time ago and saw how the roosters were bloodied while fighting and the end result was the death of one of the contending rooster, I was not pleased with such a sight and hated that sports from that day on. It is a big time animal cruelty and I support and judicial processes initiated against those involved in this, they should not be allowed to continue subjecting animals the unnecessary torture. I can't even gamble on this; the only type of bet which I can place on animals is raising. Aside from that, anything that supports animal cruelty, I hate it. Those animals are being forced to fight each other against their will, not even as if they have a choice. People can just go to many lengths just for the sake of making money.

What surprises me in this story is the size of the gambling and how blind people were. 100 people, that isnt something that is hard to not to spot. Hundred of birds that is also hard to hide. Like there were many farmers all of a sudden in one place. I understand that of course those 100 were not in same place at once, but when something is organized, where are tens of participants, that isnt a small event that only few people know about. Locals knew about all that due to word of mouth advertising, but prefer to stay silent for a period of time.
