One hundred people were arrested Saturday following what town officials described as a large-scale cockfighting operation in Tolland, Connecticut.

State police confirmed that they made 100 in-custody arrests, seized about $90,000 and located 273 birds on a property on Mountain Spring Road.

State police said 273 birds were in such bad condition they had to be euthanized.
Suspects and chickens came from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. State police said half of the people charged live in Connecticut. Tolland Town Manager Brian Foley said the cockfighting had been taking place at a dormant quarry, which had been inactive for more than a decade. The investigation closed Mountain Spring Road between Tolland Stage Road and Elizabeth Lane for several hours on Saturday. Elvin and Lisa Miranda are accused of welcoming people into their home for long nights of bird fighting and betting in the basement. The operation ran for months, police said.

Though I don't know if gambling on cock fighting is illegal in my country, but we do see cock fights almost all the time. Cock fight has been existing before now cause most countries that has such sports do not have love for animals cause it's just like nothing rather than meat to them but the issue of government making arrest has to be because of the information they must have gotten due to some illegal things that is happening during the gambling. Here in the Philippines, cockfighting is part of the culture but if it's done on an illegal area then the place will be seized and people who are in there will get arrested. We've got cock pit arenas where it is done and I think there's a compliance through that because they pay taxes just to make the cockfighting happen. I've got some friends who are invested into this and they're growers of the cockfighters so, as I am looking at them that's a good business there. But if it's with the fights, it should be done on the legal arenas to avoid getting arrested.

I do not know what is the law there, but here at Brazil any mistreatment of animals is punished almost as severely as doing same to another human. Here, the system of justice understands that animals are vulnerable beings who lack the capacity to defend themselves and therefore punishment is always "exemplary".

This is what I also see online, but how should wickedness on animals be a culture? There were countries in the past that make killing of humans a culture until they eradicated such believes. This is not about humans but animals also have blood running in their arteries and veins, they have pain impulses sent to their brain which should make cockfighting illegal.

I honestly do not know or have any idea of cockfighting is legal in my country, but the thing is, from the very first time I saw this type of (so called) sports videos on YouTube, I hated the idea completely. I hated the fact that the idea have even become reality, I hated to imagine that cocks are made to fight each other while humans stand and watch, and sometimes, this cocks fight themselves to death and humans find pleasure in watching that happen.
