Politics has a way of humbling even the loudest voices.
Cubana Chief Priest stepped into his state’s party primary with full city boy confidence, but the outcome clearly showed that popularity alone is not enough. In Nigeria, politics goes far beyond social media influence or nightlife fame. You may have money, visibility, and strong connections, but without a solid grassroots structure, it becomes very difficult to succeed. Real political strength is built from the ground up ward by ward, community by community.
The same people who cheer you in public spaces may not necessarily support you when it truly counts. That’s the difference between online influence and real political power.
A simple lesson from this, build genuine relationships, respect your base, and understand that politics is a serious game not just a platform for popularity. In the end, Nigeria has a way of reminding everyone that true power comes from the people 🇳🇬

Primaries is all about party members are not everyone. But you are not wrong that online influence is different from what is actually happening. Most people that are voting in Nigeria are not online. This online people are only loud. I can remember the last presidential election. Obi was the online person, but Tinubu wọn the election. A simple lesson from this: build genuine relationships, respect your base, and understand that politics is a serious game — not just a platform for popularity. In the end, Nigeria has a way of reminding everyone that true power comes from the people 🇳🇬
In Nigeria that elections can be rigged if care is not taken. Another thing is that he lost primaries, so power does not come from the people, but from the parties politics.

I think Cubana chief priest understands nothing about politics, he just ventured into it, because he thinks that he is rich and famous, but what he did not realize is that all that is not enough when it comes to politics. Politics is a game and for you to be successful you have to understand and know how to play the game. He totally forgot about the party politics and that's one of the reasons he lost, because the delegates that's votes in primary elections are party members. I don't think he knows anything about politics, he just thought that his fame and money can get him power, but I believe he just learnt his lesson. My advice for him is that if he is truly interested in party he should start from the grassroots and he should also concentrate more on the party politics, because that's is very important.

Cubana chief priest was never a politician, he has never done politics before, so he doesn’t know what politics entails. He is just an opportunist who thinks he can achieve anything with money. But he doesn’t know that politics is all about loyalty and trust. The people he’s working with in the city boys don’t see him as a loyal person so they can’t trust him with power, because if he gets that power they can’t use him the way they want anymore. The people he thinks are his friends in politics are seeing him as a tool they can always use to achieve their own agenda.

Cubana Chiefpriest doesn’t understand what politics is all about, he thinks because he is close to Tinubu and Seyi Tinubu and City Boys movement that it gives him a leverage to contest the primary and emerge victorious but politics doesn’t happen that way, when it comes to Primaries Elections it’s between a single political party, and he also thinks online influence is everything and he also thinks that money is everything, I was very happy when I heard he lost the elections, this shows that the party doesn’t value him and they didn’t see him fit or eligible to represent them which is why he failed the election, you want to represent your people the question is what have you done for your community where you come from, this particular individual happens to haven’t done anything in his community and constituency where he wants to represent, how is the people going to elect him to represent them, I wouldn’t have been happy if they had elected him, now he is going to understand that money isn’t everything, he isn’t a very important person in politics.

In the end, Nigeria has a way of reminding everyone that true power comes from the people 🇳🇬
Winning elections in Nigeria is not about being famous, you can be famous and not win your polling unit. Now let's take a look at what happened to Cubana Chief Priest Man is famous and influencial on social media but got only 14 votes during the primary in his polling unit, all of that boils down to the way we talk, he once made a video on social media that most people who trolls him online are poor and don't have G wagons and for that he doesn't take them seriously, this are the same people you want their votes, how would they vote you in after down grading them?. This scenario has further proven to us that social media influence or popularity doesn't make one win but the legacies and relationships that is build with the people at the grassroots is what matters, after all he wasn't contesting for the interest of the people he is only concerned about himself and to make more wealth, this is a lesson we should all learn from.

This is a strong lesson for many celebrities and public figures who think popularity automatically translates to political power. Politics in Nigeria is deeply rooted in grassroots loyalty, long-term relationships, and community presence not just fame or social media buzz.

Very true. Politics is completely different from entertainment or social media popularity. A person can trend every day online and still struggle politically because real politics is about structure, loyalty, strategy, and grassroots connection. People may celebrate celebrities publicly, but elections are won through consistent community engagement and years of building trust with the people at the local level. That’s why many popular figures discover that fame does not automatically translate into political strength.
