How do people enjoy MMA?

Naturally, I don't like combat sports. Boxing is the only combat sport I try to enjoy because it's more regulated, and it's just fists. But whenever I watch videos of MMA fights, I always ask myself how something like that is legal. It is just too bloody to be legal.
If the cops pulled up to 2 men on the streets fighting that way, they would both be taken to the police station, but put them in a cage, with some money, promoting, sponsors, and it's a sport?

I've tried to enjoy it, but I just couldn't. There is something about two humans beating themselves to a pulp with their bare hands that I can't stand.

There is kicking and choking, elbow and any other things you can think of that fall within the rule. They fight like they actually hate each other, like they're ready to kill each other. It's crazy. It's funny because these days, MMA is even becoming more popular than boxing.

Everyone's ideas are very different and some can adapt to it and some can't. But I see it as a complete game or sport, like football. For example, in a football game, a lot of things happen and opponents often get into fights with each other, although there are no such rules in football, but an MMA match is a complete fight. In this match, the fight will be to make one person bleed, this is the main rule of this game.

I think in this thread you are rather talking about your personal preferences rather than other thing.

Long ago I learnt there is pretty much people for everything on the planet. For example, there are people who like to eat literal rotten flesh from animals killing by vehicles on the street. There are people who like to get smeared in the feces of their sexual partner, and so on... So it is not a surprise for me there are people willing to watch and even bet on people literally killing themselves on the ring.

Also, the fact MMA could be gaining popularity versus boxing may be because people can be morbid when comes to seeing blood and violence in front of their eyes.

The important thing here is that you recognize what you like and what you don't, so you can effectively filter what you consume and only have pleasant experiences when you see for entertainment on TV and on the internet.

It is not surprising to see people who do not like combat sports. In boxing you only have two targets, the head and the body. When you accumulate multiple blows to the head across 12 rounds, it is more lethal and causes blunt force trauma than MMA, which has a much shorter fight time. Once you are hurt and you are incapable of defending yourself, the referee usually calls off the fight, unlike in boxing  .

Like I mentioned above, constant punches to the head cause more damage. MMA is not a street fight, it has rules and regulations and getting choked out is much safer than getting repeatedly punched in the face.  

MMA is getting more popular because fans get to see the fights they want while the fighters are in their prime. Unlike in boxing, where fighters avoid top competition out of fear of losing their undefeated records and end up fighting well past their prime.

I have friends that say they like watching vampire movies at night, something I will be uncomfortable watching even in day time. There are people that will faint at the sight of blood meanwhile some people see blood everyday in their line of work. MMA may be violent but there are who enjoy watching it just like there are people that enjoy watching cock fighting.

They are sportsmen when the game is over; they show sportsmanship. It's all about the art of fighting. They hit even if one is down because this is mixed martial arts, and don't worry, the referee is fast enough to stop the fight to prevent further damage to both fighters.

I'd say times never change. People have always enjoyed violence, whether in the form of public executions or gladiator fights. By the way, I'm not a fan of violence. The most I like is boxing, and when I watch MMA, I mostly just feel sorry for the fighters. Only a few of them make a decent living, most just ruin their health for pennies. In general, I am a supporter of the idea that if people do something voluntarily, then it is their right, and yes, it looks like MMA will continue to remain popular.

It's not one of my favorite sports but I can understand why lots of people like it. If you strip away all the conveniences, technology and knowledge that mankind has accumulated over thousands of years - fighting one on one was about the raw will to survive against an opponent. As people we are not always going to agree on sometimes quite significant things and that can lead to conflict, if you cannot use words to resolve disputes then fighting is the natural outcome. It's getting back to human nature and the top dog world that we live in, who is an alpha and who is a beta, that will always be the underlying theme when it comes to fighting where there can only be one winner. At least MMA is real fighting and much less staged than something like WWF.

Well that’s kinda true but i do have to say that combat sports at a professional level involve necessary safety measures, like there’s a lot of difference in a street fight and in an MMA fight, a street fight doesn’t involve gloves, moutpiece and above of all doesn’t have doctors at the place to take precautions needed and MMA has all that so imo that’s the reason why cops wont take them. And along with that fighters have proper contracts that are signed by them which makes them 100% responsible so the organisation can also not be blamed either.

If it were not fun or entertaining, it would have been banned by now. I understand where you are coming from and I do feel same when watching MMA. But most of the times I just enjoy it like every other sport I do watch that looks a bit too cruel for it's participants. Growing up we all enjoyed watching WWE, it was all faces of our best fighters. But it became boring when they started making movies for us to watch( or I'll just say when we realised it was all an act for the crowd to be entertained). All WWE fighters turned out to be paid actors to make the crowd happy. So I guess people nowadays wants the real deal. No fake fights, just real talents shown on screen. I do sometimes hope no one gets killed with the way they get aggressive...

Immediately, if anyone starts bleeding, that's the end of the fight for me. I don't have any business with MMA because the impact of their punch and kicks is direct, since there are no gloves. MMA has a history with different names and shapes but has existed for centuries because once it was a symbol of success and bravery for many countries, so I have to agree with a few points: it is too violent but still has enough popularity to stay here for many decades in the future as well.

There were many fights that created serious chaos, still, it's going and having its existence because a big community loves to watch and enjoy this, like many are doing with different sports around the world. Usually I also love and enjoy watching and having my favourite fighters in the ring.

MMA became popular years ago, and it's still hyped until now.

That's why they do it in an octagon with a referee so that it's not like street fighting. In terms of the legality of the actions, well, those are different martial arts. Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Kickboxing, Boxing, and a lot more. They just put it all in one sport, and I think that is why it is being enjoyed by many fans. It's not just about boxing. Anything can happen in the octagon. Submission, TKO, or just a bloody fight until the end of the fight.

I guess it will all just depend on the viewer. Some don't like too much blood and violence, but some can still handle it and, in fact, enjoy the fight.

MMA fighters also wear gloves, but different gloves from boxers, since they need their fingers to be free to grapple, clinch, and submit their opponent.  I also like boxing but watching MMA matches makes boxing boring since MMA involves many disciplines that excites audience.

I also don't find MMA barbaric as other anti-MMA sees it because it has rules and safety measures and is regulated. It is more intense, yes, but not barbaric.  In fact, boxing has more records of fatality than MMA due to the nature of sports rules, since there are only 2 targets in boxing, the body and the head. Unlike MMA that has lots of variation.

Each person is different when it comes to perspective on which this might be brutal or harsh for some people, but there are those who do like to watch something like this and on the thing  you said about ending up on police station then of course these fights are official and regulated on which means that they can do these things inside the ring. Different sports then its understandable that it can be similar to boxing but this one is having no gloves. Some people do really love the thrill on watching fights on using up that bare fist and other body parts on trying to knock down the opponent. On this case, if you dont want to see this sport then you can freely ignore it out and just stick into the sports on which you do love to watch and bet on.

Anything morbid will tend to appeal to most humans; that's what most people currently love for entertainment. That's why things in sports are becoming increasingly aggressive, and this isn't just reflected in some extreme sports; it also happens on TV, in movies, and elsewhere. I confess I've asked myself this question many times. Every time I watch UFC videos, I can't help but wonder: how do the people watching feel? In boxing, you rarely see a fighter on the ground, covered in blood and unconscious. But in MMA, this is "normal," and it seems that people who watch MMA are much happier when they see a fight with a lot of blood being spilled. And something I wonder about is: is it possible that those people who watch MMA and like to see a lot of blood aren't violent at home?

I like combat sports. I’ve trained and participated in combat sports. I think once you’ve gone through the motions to learn about the sport, I think you have a new respect for it. They aren’t just crazy people beating on each other. They’re trained specialists using martial arts or other forms of combat to submit an opponent.
