Exactly, at least you get it. Many of the people on this forum are so uneducated, they act surprised by all sorts of shit that has existed for decades. Nothing about this case is new, nothing about the method of hacking is new, and nothing at all is new about it simply because it happens on a new platform. To the other idiots, stop shitposting:
You are the idiot for believing that anyone who visits this Forum implicitly has to know details about particular social engineering attacks.  Excluding the people who write a post particularly for Signature Campaign post counts for obvious reasons, a lot of people visiting do not have any ADVANCED knowledge about technology.  This is like someone talking you down for acting surprised that a particular pest attacked your apple tree, you idiot, how did you not know, the pest has been around for longer than you exist!

Complain about them downloading all kinds of unknown files and opening them up, that is like picking up things off the floor in the middle of Times Square and licking them to later be surprised by an Emergency Room visit.  But what you do does not make any sense, your post only gives 'look how obviously intelligent I am, you peasants' feelings.

Advanced? There is nothing advanced about this, what are you talking about. This is as basic as it gets, as knowing where the brake pedal is in a car. If you do not know where the brake pedal is, then don't drive a car. Most people are using technology without knowing anything at all about it, they are fucking idiots so don't provide excuses for idiocy.

Basic knowledge about security is not a sign of any intelligence, it is a sign of basic education. Tolerating stupidity breeds more stupidity, this is why we are in the situation where we are. If people were not permitted to use these things without having basic competency, 99% of all hacks would have never happened. Instead people celebrate that others are incompetent, but hey at least they know how to open Instagram so at least their intelligence got that going for them. The primary reason for which people do this is because they are surrounded by technologically illiterate people or they themselves are extremely uneducated in technology or other areas. Being a coward instead of admitting your errors is not something to be prideful of.

This kind of behavior will lead to a future where you will need to do an identity check to access any kind of technological devices, smartphone or desktop. People will be screened for sufficient technology competency to allow any kind of use except what is provided to them either through corporate or government mandate. But hey, let's tolerate stupidity and incompetency I am sure it will work out just fine we are absolutely not half way there to this.  Smiley

Many of the people on this forum are so uneducated, they act surprised by all sorts of shit that has existed for decades. Nothing about this case is new, nothing about the method of hacking is new, and nothing at all is new about it simply because it happens on a new platform. To the other idiots, stop shitposting:
1) This is a basic social engineering attack variant.
2) This is a basic method of compromise, not any different from downloading a malicious file from anywhere else.
3) This happens on platforms of any kind, just because it is LinkedIn that does not mean this is something new.
4) Keeping your crypto on the same computer that you use for this kind of thing is nothing new.
Anyone who is surprised by any of this is just a shitposting idiot. Users should get an education about the basics of technology before they start shitposting about all the great benefits of Bitcoin and other aspects that they allegedly understand. Anyone who can be surprised by something like this does not even understand 1% of what Bitcoin is, no matter what AI-boosted bullshit they write here.

My question is, he's in the computer field, but how could he still be fooled by something as simple as this? He should have understood that he needed to separate his personal devices from his work devices. In fact, things like this have become basic for IT professionals. If only he had separated his work devices from his personal devices containing his wallet from the start, then this could have been prevented, but unfortunately he didn't care about that and trusted others too much.

Read replies written in the post before writing your own response. This has already been answered.

Did you know that not even 1% of all developers especially in shitty languages like Solidity know anything about computer security? Roll Eyes I guess you didn't. Most often they are as technologically illiterate as it gets, don't hallucinate IT expertise simply because someone knows how to use some languages.
There are not even 10 people in this forum who couldn't be fooled one way or another, but there are a few that like to pretend that they have competencies in these matters with some theoretical knowledge that they picked up along the way. Don't be surprised that it can happen to others, it can happen to you in another variant. The reason that it doesn't is that nobody has a good enough reason to invest considerable resources into tricking you through a more sophisticated means. Why would they?

It's a good lesson for many people to learn from. Not just the idea of inputting unknown data or files to your devices, but the main lesson here is to avoid using your storage devices for your regular activities. I kind of notice that the web3 folks are more careless with how they store their coins. You should always keep your coins offline and avoid exposing them to the internet or any devices that you connect regularly to the internet. I've seen alot of similar stories and it's usually same thing every time. I wonder why they never learn. Even if we know that no one is above mistakes, but these are little things that could be avoided if you just do what is right. You should always see that your coins are stored offline..
I agree with this take and this is not just to the web3 folks. I notice too that even those who hold small amount of bitcoins are also careless with how they store their coins because they feel it is small so it doesn’t matter. It is not until they encounter a situation where that gave them a real scare because they were at the verge of losing their coins , then they now try to take some precautions and properly store their coins. Hackers and scammers do not forgive mistakes and they certainly do not discriminate based on how much you hold.

Same to what have happened to me way back 2024. Got a call interview to teat what they've built and they lurk me on their website and want me to test the app by downloading the application but for quiet a while it didn't on mobile so I hop onto my PC, I never know that it would contain drainers the moment I click that download and it was just a for a moment the assets on my wallet was gone because they've probably scan all of the .txt file where I saved some of my PK too. Such an expensive lesson!

This is quite very painful to have gone through such losses while trying to find a way out of a difficult or locked app just for it to be a trap set to hack into users privacy. Sincerely I feel for you, but ignoring such pop update apps sometimes saves from this kind of experience.
When such thing happens again off your data and power off your garget to interrupt the apps from having access of downloading anything from the link, by the time you put on your device the link will be gone.
