Cuban is not wrong in a very narrow sense.

The S&P500 and NDX are at historical high levels. So somehow these assets keep outperforming everything and anything during the Hormuz crisis. Gold is down from its recent ATH, but nowhere near as down as BTC is from its ATH.

So yeah, if we account for the ATH, BTC is underperforming in the LONG TERM.

Keep in mind that this is a worthless observation in relation to the Hormuz crisis. The US approach against Iran is just one of the hundreds of stupid inflationary measures that are currently pressuring the dollar, but the most important one remains monetary policy which hasn't gone though any tightening since post-covid. What's going on now with high inflation would have been going on regardless of Iran because the monetary policy remains bonkers inflationary.

The reason why BTC USD has underperformed traditional markets during this crazy time is up to anyone's guess. One napkin math guess could be that right now NYSE and Nasdaq are more speculative than BTC is.

Tbh I only know Mark Cuban as the “nice guy” from Shark Tank because all the other investors on the panel are relatively worse. His attacks on bitcoin is news to me, I don’t know why people follow what billionaires do or say when we know every information they feed the public is for their own selfish interests. I think he’s trying to manipulate the market to make profit off it.

Mark Cuban's actions don't match his words. He has been known to be very inconsistent. Why should anyone take someone seriously when he openly criticizes Bitcoin and says all sorts of negative things about it, yet never takes any action to sell off all his bitcoins as he claims? That way, people can at least take him seriously.

On social media everybody is entitled to their own opinions so mark Cuban, is merely exercising his freedom of speech like everyone so it is left for his listeners to discern and decide whether what he said is worth taking seriously or not. Like you rightly noted someone cannot be criticizing something and still holding onto it at the same time, if he wants to match his words about Bitcoin he should offload everything and be talking on the sideline. Bitcoin has always been criticized yet it is still here and no matter what anybody says it still has the potentials to reach ATH and that is what actually matters.

Cuban is consciously trying to manipulate the market and cause FUD so weak hands can react, and the effect will be seen in Bitcoin's price movement. No one should take him seriously.

I can agree with you that Cuban, is probably trying to cause FUD that will rattle weak hands to sell and Bitcoin will dip so he can accumulate more, whales do this to manipulate the market. I wouldn't take him seriously either because whatever his statement might impact on the market is for a very short time.

I watched something like this on twitter but he made a statement that "MOST", he firstly said that he sold his Bitcoin and seconds after he said he sold most of his Bitcoin.

I won't react because of what Cuban said,  because he won't be the only one that will say something like this, it always happens in a bear market, it can actually be a trick to make people start selling.

I am pretty sure that they will all start to buy back when Bitcoin gets cheaper, I am not surprised that someone like him is trying to say something bad about Bitcoin now, it's a good time to say something like this anyway.

I read about Cuban yesterday and made the post below.

I see his nonsense and I know in order to balance his lies I had to write this poll. As it will show in google and bing searches.

I said yes he is a shameful liar trying to damage and attack btc for his own personal gains and benefits.
Mark Cuban is like many celebrities who make a lot of lies for their benefits.

[Newbies] Bitcoin responses in wars, conflicts & Lessons learned.
Bitcoin has actually shown its impressive strength after many wars recent years, but longer than that through the pandemic Covid-19 and economic recessions. Not only Mark Cuban lies, there are other influencers do the same, so with experience I have in this market, I ignore noise on media because it's truly not helpful for me.

What can you expect from him? He's done and take already his profit, so expect that he's seeking for a best position to accumulate Bitcoin again that's why he release a negative narrative towards Bitcoin.

But if people stop listening on crazy statement like this, whoever said that word maybe we don't see  Bitcoin experience decline. But for sure everything is just a noise and Cuban just want an attention that's why he said all of those things.

Maybe he's trying to influence more weak hands to chicken out so the market would drop further and he'll buy the dip, well that's just my thought. However if his expectations was that Bitcoin grow beyond the recent all time high in a certain period and he sold because it didn't then he's a joker.
Someone like him should know that Bitcoin is a long-term asset and not something he should gamble with, if he can't hold longer then he should get lost and go invest in whatever he feel is better.

Even if we agree Bitcoin did not go up during the wall, is that a reason to say Bitcoin has lost the plot and to sell of all your btc? How can you say an asset is not worth it because it did not go up within a period of a month? So all the other times when the coin can go up doesn't matter anymore. If we are to judge gold based on the short term, then it is not a great store of value. I guess he just wanted to talk as a lot of them do. He likes the attention and he got it.

People were not even expecting btc to rise because of the war. People anticipated that bitcoin would go down because institutional investors would sell. It was a bit surprising to see the price go up. Maybe he expecting btc to have a new ATH due to the war. if that is what he actually expected then he doesn't understand what he is into.
Maybe he's trying to influence more weak hands to chicken out so the market would drop further and he'll buy the dip, well that's just my thought.
This may be a possibility, but what would be the point. How much influence does he think he has to case a significant dip where he would be buying very low? I doubt that was his intention, but that's  his business.

Don't know this dude which is why I did some research on him and he is simply your average elite snob who doesn't give two shits about BTC or any other crypto for that matter since profit and only profit is what matters the most to him at the end of the day.

He probably lost a lot recently thanks to BTC due to which he simply dumped it. The orange clown will probably try to make good money off of him.

Welcome to the way 99% of people see Bitcoin: as just another investment in their portfolio.

Go ahead and wish people like him would go away: then BTC would lose 99% of its price. Oops.

Like it or not, this is the way Bitcoin works now: BTC whales dictate everything. There will be good days and bad days, so get used to it.

I see his nonsense and I know in order to balance his lies I had to write this poll. As it will show in google and bing searches.

Mark Cuban selling off all his Bitcoin and saying it has lost the plot is a bit unexpected. He referenced its drop in value while gold skyrocketed as an example that it isn’t a store of value. A shame that so many people don’t understand the four year cycle. I wonder how much money Cuban has lost in his crypto ventures…
It is quite strange and misleading what he is saying. He is probably trying to cover up his own failures by shifting the blame on Bitcoin.

Quote
Cuban, who's net worth is about $10 billion, said bitcoin’s price behavior during the recent Iran conflict challenged one of the core reasons he owned the asset during an episode of sports podcast "Portfolio Players", where he mainly discussed professional sports and his ownership of the Dallas Mavericks.
https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/05/21/mark-cuban-says-he-sold-most-of-his-bitcoin-after-failed-hedge-narrative-disappointed-the-billionaire
Bitcoin has never performed better in a large crisis than it did this time. It is like he joined Bitcoin yesterday. Not that long ago a fake China bans Bitcoin article would crash the price by 20% or more in the same day.
So I read two articles and he is simply lying

https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/05/21/mark-cuban-says-he-sold-most-of-his-bitcoin-after-failed-hedge-narrative-disappointed-the-billionaire

"When all this shit the fan with the Iran war, bitcoin was always the best alternative to fiat currency losing its value and I always thought it was a better version of gold than gold. Well, gold just blew up... bitcoin dropped. And every time the dollar dropped, bitcoin should've gone up ... and it just didn't do that," Cuban said.

the truth is gold peaked before the Iran war not during it so he lies.

iran war feb 28th 2026 5200

gold now may 21 2026 4500

gold has dropped 14% since the war began

btc feb 28th 2026  66,900
btc may 21th 2026  77,700 up over 16%

cuban lies

What do you think how BTC price will react if S&P 500 falls remarkably from its ATH ?

Last time S&P 500 fell 1/3 in one month (from 3400 on February 14, 2020 to 2300 on March 14, 2020), Bitcoin fell about 1/2 (from 10 000 usd to 5000 usd).

Is this relationship broken or even grown stronger ?

Is Mark Cuban FUD'ing Bitcoin again, and his acting coupled with selling his stash to make it genuine and wait for the crash and scoop Bitcoin at a lower price?  We have read him talking bad about Bitcoin before, and yet he is still in the Bitcoin market buying and selling at a profit.

I do not think we have to take his word seriously.  He is just another trader who profits in the Bitcoin market.

I think he knows what he is doing.  He is here to profit, so it is highly possible that he is trying to influence weak hands to sell just like what you stated.

All this tells anybody seeing that is that the Bitcoin hardcores are pissed because Cuban sold his Bitcoin. I'm not sure it's the big win you think it is.  Cheesy Cheesy

Honest people will look into why he sold--since you made such a big deal out of it--and then see that he sold his BTC based on its market performance in the last 12 months. They will see that he did not "lie", he simply made a judgement about his own portfolio based on the actual, undeniable numbers.

And then they'll see that the "hardcores" of this particular investment (BTC) are... not being very grown-up about it Smiley. This is a very bad look for anybody except the tiny community of hard-core Bitcoin religious zealots. Everybody else will think "wtf, what is this Bitcoin thing really about? maybe I should buy NVDA instead...".

I think he knows what he is doing.  He is here to profit, so it is highly possible that he is trying to influence weak hands to sell just like what you stated.

I started this thread a while back to discuss this very idea: that whales like Mark Cuban control the price of Bitcoin in order to screw over average investors, because with Bitcoin (unlike stocks) this market manipulation is 100% legal so why not do it?

So when BTC drops by 20% and then Cuban comes out and says he loves Bitcoin again and everybody should definitely buy it, then you know what happened Smiley.

(And if that's the case, he very much thanks the OP for the free advertising lol Smiley).

Before we can say is Cuban a liar or not, we have to determine what is the period under consideration. Last 3 months ?  Last year ? Last 2 years ? Last 5 years ?
Every period gives fully different results.

From the beginning, it seems that he wants to survive with his sensations and inconsistencies so that what he says now may be different from what he will say in the future and vice versa so I don't feel anything strange about the statements that seem to be changed by himself.

He just wants to seek attention and unfortunately with a large enough number of followers it makes him even more so when as an influencer who has quite a lot of followers he should be quite aware that what he says could have an impact but it seems like he doesn't care because the most important thing for Cuban at the moment is just the sensation he makes come to the surface.

LOL

You are thinking about this too rationally.  Cheesy Cheesy

What Cuban says: "After looking at the numbers, I sold my Bitcoin because the investment did not perform in the way I expected and in a way that matches my portfolio needs".

What religious Bitcoin maxis heard: "bla bla bla I sold my Bitcoin bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.

It didn't start with him alone, we have others who also lie and spread bad news about Bitcoin but all to no yield, Bitcoin is still doing well and shaming all of them at the end, his lies is not just about Bitcoin but seeking for attention, I agree with what someone said here that if Mark had praised Bitcoin just like every Bitcoin user would do, then the video will not get much attention so he had to do something else out of greed and selfish interest.
