I don’t blame anyone who thinks or talk such about gamblers , gambling has done more harm than good to some people, and I don’t even have energy to convince anyone who think that way , trust me it’s going to be hard for them to believe that  there still responsible gamblers , people like generalize things , just because they see someone made a mistake, they believe others are the same or can even do worst , so if anyone talk to me in such a manner I don’t  think I will defend myself but my attitude will prove that I’m not an irresponsible gambler , people only need time to understand things.

If we are that close I might be willing to educate them about gambling. Moreover if we weren't, you won't be able to know about my gambling life. I'm just that one person who is secretive in real life. I don't like people meddling in my personal life because all they do most times is to give opinions or advice which they will not be a good representative of. The society' already sees gambling as something negative. It's how it has been painted for a long time. When they see someone who is interested gambling the first thing that comes to their head is that he is an irresponsible person. But that's not always true. Some gamblers are still able to keep gambling habits very low and thats how they control addiction..

Personally, I gamble online, I wouldn't even let you find out I'm a gambler unless you are very close to me or an insider because people already see gamblers as irresponsible people no matter how much good record you may have gathered for yourself. Gambling hurts people who lacks discipline, but in an economy where many people are finding thins very difficult and a lot have been ruined by gambling, you would really have a hard time convincing someone that have seen the wrecks that there is something good in it.

If anyone told me something like that outside my family, I will tell them to mind their own business. I am not asking for their opinion or whatever, and I respect their belief, but just keep it to themselves.

No I don't, they already have their conviction trying to reason with them will only result in an argument.  Just let them be with their belief, it won't affect my life anyway, since all my decisions are my own.

For someone to make this statement, that is already an indicator that the individual has a fixed mindsets which was probably built from the observation that he or she got from observing gambler that are already addicted, and most of these folks with such mindset are mostly bullheaded .... And so no matter the kind of explanation or convincing, they wouldn't even give you listening ears coz they believe that all gambler are the same... So for me, I wouldn't even bother myself with much explanation or arguments coz I don't even have time for such, I would just give a nod and go on doing what I am doing...

Exactly, no matter how you tried to convince them ,  they don’t want to hear or understand  , because they have already seen everyone as the same , many can’t keep calm , they would want one or two person to know about their gambling activities or probably when they are talking about one particular team that cut their game , some person can voice out what they have been doing secretly sometimes it could be out of excitement or because they aren’t happy with the performance of the team they bet on , so been discrete is not for everyone.

People with this kind of negative thinking mentality should not be given attention to, only be moved by how you personally gamble and the approach you give to it and not what people are saying, there are times you could be discouraged by people's approach to gambling if care is not taken, be more concerned about how you are gambling and also do it in a responsible manner.

There are situations that we could easily avoid, but there are also times when you are confronted with such words. This isn't new. People who don't gamble often assume gamblers are just losing money all the time. There's no point worrying too much about those people, because no amount of explanation will convince them. As long as you are doing what's right for yourself, you don't need to justify it to anyone. Of course they are actually saying the truth, because gambling has ruining people's life and also make some people to be frustrated as they don't know what they are doing anymore. So when I see people giving such advice I used to thank them it's just that some people are very deep into the game, going back is now becoming difficult for them, some might be due to addiction why some might decide to stick to it for a reason best know to them but I see no reason why a gambler would choose to stick to gamble even when he knows that he's not favoured, I think addiction is what makes gamblers to stick to the game regardless of the losses because they believe some day they will recover from the whole losses.

As an adult i wonder why people should be bothered about me gambling when they fully know that I'm not an addict and I gamble responsibly. There's a general notion that says gambling is bad and people believes that anyone who is seen gambling is irresponsible and has no future. So it will become difficult to make your family understands that you bet responsibly since they have an evil and bad intention towards gambling already but I still think sitting the family members down and explain how you gamble truly matters and atleast it will send a good signal about how they feel and think about gamblers.

Most times people make judgement on others based on how they understand things instead of what is actually happening, this makes them to make mistake as they judge people for being what they are not. Many times I have been mistaken to be an irresponsible gambler but I have always tried my best to be responsible when gambling. Irresponsible gamblers are of the majority hence a lot of people classify everybody that is gambling as an irresponsible or addicted gambler which is not the truth. When this happen I don't try to confront people or try to prove myself instead I allow time to let them understand the true identity of my gambling behaviour.

I think many responsible gamblers are still misunderstood because people mostly focus on the negative side of gambling. The truth is that gambling becomes dangerous when there is no control or discipline. Like on how some people can drink alcohol occasionally without becoming addicted, while others lose control completely. It is the same with gambling. This makes sense, there are really people like this, overreacting or not minding their own business! Maybe they also have some personal experiences, bad or good, that make them busy with other people instead of doing themselves.
I already met a lot of different people, including this, like any things you will do, some will still have something to say on it. That's why even how we will tell different people has different purposes while they are gambling, they stilll dont understand that.
