Who else looks at it this way, that a real long term Bitcoin investor never actually loses.
I know some might wanna counter this, but before you do, first look at it from this perspective. When the Bitcoin market dips, an investor’s portfolio only drops temporarily, but this is far from being the same thing as a loss. The only thing the turns this into an actual loss is when they sell too early due to fear, which of course is something a real long term holder would never do.
Historically, Bitcoin is known to reward patience and consistency more than fear, panic and playing smart. Long term investors mostly see discounts and opportunities. Even the biggest dips looked very scary in the moment, but as time went on, the market somehow managed to recover and even pushed way higher. That’s why every true investor understands this one big rule, which is that volatility are only but temporary and short term, but growth sticks around for much longer term.
This is exactly the reason why true long term investors pays no attention to short term volatility, but rather, they focus on consistent accumulation, patience and time in the market, and with these formulas, losses are somehow avoidable.
I’ve come to understand myself that those who usually end up winning are usually not those who are trying to get rich overnight, but those who remain consistent and disciplined during times of uncertainty, fear and market crashes.

Since the invention of bitcoin, there is no long term hodler that will come out to say that they encountered losses in their bitcoin investments. Whoever that is investing in bitcoin should have a long-term mindset because that is the sure way that profits can be realized and even if you don't make much profits but at least it will help you to build a fortune in your bitcoin portfolio. The only people who truly loses are those that are only interested in short term gains thereby they try to take advantage of the market which often fails them most of the time especially during DIPs and bear seasons.

OP you are correct, if you are accumulating and holding bitcoin for a long term you will not lose your money in that investment as long as you keep holding for a longer term, if my plan for bitcoin investment is 5 years of constant accumulation and holding and in the 5 years I have made $5k interest but during that same year bitcoin drops in price and the $5k interest I got dropped to $2k I can decide to extend my holding to another 3 to 5 years more and if I do that I will surely get more profit because the price of bitcoin will surely grow higher so those that has the mindset of a longer term investment in bitcoin will never lose their money if they continue holding longer. Just don’t panic, fear or feel pressured when theirs a dip in bitcoin because this are want actually makes people to sell off their bitcoin even when they are at lost.

You made a solid point about long-term holding, because patience has rewarded many Bitcoin investors over time. But saying no long-term holder has ever experienced losses is a bit too absolute. Some people bought at market tops and had to wait years before recovering. The real lesson is that Bitcoin rewards discipline and time, while people chasing quick profits often get trapped by emotions during dips and bear markets. Long-term mindset reduces pressure and panic decisions, but understanding risk is still important.

To be a bitcoin investor is a very good thing, but you can do more than just being a bitcoin investor, you can be a hodler. Buy bitcoin in a way that you will make money, sell some but do not sell all. It is better you hodl and let you children and family members that you want to also earn. It is best to hold bitcoin throughout your lifetime. You can hodl and enjoy the hodl discussion with us.

Because from what I know, they’re basically same thing. We have short term investors who are in other words known as traders, we also have the long term investors who are also called HODLers, but you speak as though they’re both two different kinda people.

Most of us know the importance of long-term holding. As long as you don't have a specified limited time which you set to sell, profit is always a thing you can make, but not everyone is actually prepared for that long-term holding in terms of keeping enough backup which can give them the courage not to panic each time the market is depreciating. One thing before fear of uncertainty takes over them is when investors don't have stable income and don't have enough reserves in case the price of bitcoin climbs down and remains down for a long period of time.

Yes, you are right. But just invest in bitcoin for 6 months, 4 years, 10 years and life time. You will see how you may think how they can be different. You can call yourself a bitcoin investor if you hold bitcoin for 6 months, but if it is getting to over 10 years, you will not use an investor again because you will see yourself more as a hodler because what you want is now beyond investment profit but you also see bitcoin as savings and store of value.

A long term Bitcoin investor should understand bankroll management and budgeting in order to be successful at holding Bitcoin for long term, because without the knowledge, one may not be consistent with the long term plan knowing they over invested and have become hooked or have suddenly encountered difficulties that is a result of financial mismanagement. Long term investment of holding Bitcoin demands consistency and patience, but knowing how not to over do it by sticking to adjusted fractions of investment, inorder to suit other needs and be well prepared for real world contingencies that wouldn't require you selling off your holdings short, because of pressing problems, is the right way to invest for maximum benefits.

I gat your points, the issue is that many people actually comes into bitcoin investment with fear/ panic and there is no way one will succeed in anything they tend to do if they put fears at front. Bitcoin investment isn't something of hurry or seems as quick rich, the main key point is to have enough patience or long-term patience, be disciplined and have a good mindset or a long-term mindset, but without all these there's no way the aims would be achieved as expected.
However, holding bitcoin for long-term growth is always the best method that's why it's always advisable that even if, as a newbie you don't have enough money to invest at a lump-sum, they don't need to worry themselves, because Dollar-Cost Averaging is also a great strategy for either newbie or an experienced investors to approach, even with the little amount of money, they can invest gradually, regularly and persistently then holding it for long-term growth is the best. Prevent yourself from being forced to sell whenever there's market dip, that's the nature of Bitcoin, it's volatile in nature so price can fluctuate at any moment.

Lol, I believe the terminology is what’s confusing you. The terminology may be different but the concepts are literally the same. You don’t become a hodler when you’ve reached a particular horizon, it’s actually the first time I’m hearing this. The very moment you decide to invest, accumulate and hold your BTC for the long term, you’re basically a hodler even though you’ve not really reached that time horizon yet. That’s to say, even a newbie who’s just started his accumulation journey could still be called a hodler, as long as he identifies himself as a long term investor, so even if he’s only held for a few months, he’s still pretty much a hodler, but he ceases to be one the day he starts selling, not because it’s part of his long term plan, but simply due to some temporary market reaction, and so he sees it as a good opportunity worth capitalizing on. Then he’s no longer a hodler but a trader, though still an investor but not a real investor (long term investor).

Lol, that means you do not know what hodl means. Bitcoin investment is the broad strategy of allocating capital to gain exposure to Bitcoin’s price movements for financial growth, while "holding" (often called HODLing) is a specific, passive long-term strategy where you buy Bitcoin and retain it indefinitely regardless of short-term volatility.
I said he is not wrong, everything is investment but hodling is used more for long term without thinking about bitcoin price volatility. If you invest in bitcoin, make profit and sell within 6 months or 1 year. That means you invested in bitcoin but I do not see you as an hodler, but if you invested in bitcoin for years, then I will see you as a bitcoin hodler. Hodl means long term investment.

I believe that investing with a long-term plan has a much lower chance of losing money. We have said one thing repeatedly that Bitcoin's long-term investment value increases gradually, so investing with a short-term plan is very risky because Bitcoin is volatile and the market can fall at any time, so there is a high chance of losing money by investing in short-term. We must take a long-term plan and invest in small amounts with consistency and hold Bitcoin with confidence about market volatility and by patiently waiting for good times, we can avoid inflation in the future and expect profits in the long term.

I’ve come to understand myself that those who usually end up winning are usually not those who are trying to get rich overnight, but those who remain consistent and disciplined during times of uncertainty, fear and market crashes.
Those who are always inquisitive for quick profits are the ones that mostly gets hurt during time of market turbulence. This is the reason why I don't pay attention to those pump and dump coins because as volatility is pushing them upwards within a short period of time that is how they use same velocity when they are falling. Bitcoin investment requires consistency and patience as that's the only thing that will make you profitable in the long term. The market will always encounter difficult times but your ability to hold your Bitcoin and never sell is what will guide you to overcome.

So how exactly is what you’re explaining here different from what I’m trying to explain here? Maybe you’re missing my point. I’m not disputing the fact that HODLers are long term investors, in fact, I clearly stated it as a fact. What I’m trying to correct is the assertion you made that one needs to have spent a particular amount of years in Bitcoin before they can be qualified to be called HODLers, which I said that as long as they individual in question has long term plans and is determined to stick to that long term plan, even if they’ve only been accumulating for a few months, they can still be called HODLers because their plans and intentions are to hodl for the long term and not to react towards short term market volatility.

Who else looks at it this way, that a real long term Bitcoin investor never actually loses.
You’re kinda getting me confused here, what exactly is the difference between a long term investor and a hodler? Because from what I know, they’re basically same thing. We have short term investors who are in other words known as traders, we also have the long term investors who are also called HODLers, but you speak as though they’re both two different kinda people. I think what @Karl_3000 is try to say or relate is that someone can be a long term investor and at the same time trade some of his coin to make some quick and fast profit on the go. But sincerely speaking I don't completely buy that idea because it can creates setback and delay in your investment journey instead of moving you forward. However, it's more better for an investor that claims to be a long term investor to focus more on his actual purpose of holding strong and forget about temporary gains that can only ruin his investment journey.

That’s true holding is far different from trading , like for instance traders need to be well skilled in order to make profits from it . But holding is all about being able to manage your bitcoin stack for long , by following a certain principle many are not able to keep up because they lack the discipline to keep to that principle, like holding with your discretionary income only , having an emergency funds incase any emergency occurs or happen . Like you say as long you are patient the chances of having losses is hard , because when market prices drop the value of your holding drop not the stack .

So how exactly is what you’re explaining here different from what I’m trying to explain here? Maybe you’re missing my point.
Good question. Read what I initially posted at the beginning of this thread which is also this: To be a bitcoin investor is a very good thing, but you can do more than just being a bitcoin investor, you can be a hodler. Buy bitcoin in a way that you will make money, sell some but do not sell all. It is better you hodl and let you children and family members that you want to also earn. It is best to hold bitcoin throughout your lifetime.
Do you understand me now? It was you that said the terminologies are confusing me but i know what I posted. I think what @Karl_3000 is try to say or relate is that someone can be a long term investor and at the same time trade some of his coin to make some quick and fast profit on the go. But sincerely speaking I don't completely buy that idea because it can creates setback and delay in your investment journey instead of moving you forward. Individuals would have different convictions on how to hold their coins and when they are going to spend it or if they are not going to spend it or if they are going to spend part of it. Read this which is another good strategy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5582745.0What I am saying is that no matter how you sell bitcoin, have many left for many years and even throughout your lifetime.

Long term investing really test's a person's mindset more than anything else because during when Market crash, everybody can talk about patience but na few people go remain calm when fear is everywhere. The consistency that long term investors has done not just come from luck alone, but having the understanding that the market moves in circles and those people that go after quick profit mostly panic quick once they notice things aren't going the way they plan it to be .

You will also agree with me that, as a bitcoin enthusiast who knows the principles of holding, would attest that no matter how dip the market goes, there is always a recovery and that recovery takes the price to a new all-time high. If you closely watch Bitcoin from when it was invented, the price grew gradually, and every dip it encountered is a new door to a new price, and that has been the case till this moment, and only the OGs understand this better. So those who hold for the long term can not experience any loss because it only gives room for more profit as the price of bitcoin appreciates over time, just like it was during the OG days of inception, so that principle works perfectly well when holding for a long.
