I bought a Trezor Model 3 that arrived today. I was taking pictures of the "unboxing" to post in the show off your hardware wallet topic, but I noticed that when I ripped off the cover, the resin/glue wasn't very sticky. It gave the impression that the box was already opened before, then stuck it together again.

Everything besides that was normal. The hologram seal, the plastic wrap, and the security deal were normal. I'm scared to plug in to my computer.

If you took a photo when you opened the box, could you post it here, showing the glue you found wasn't very sticky? Can see it in the photo?

If everything else is fine, should you worry about this? Especially since the seal on the device is intact (unless the device itself was replaced).

I doubt you'll be able to return and replace the device under warranty, because how can you explain the reason? Because you doubt the device's authenticity?

Why are you afraid to connect it to a PC? Do you think a hardware wallet will take over your PC and steal all your crypto assets? Smiley Well, then, boot from Live USB (Windows or Linux) and test the device with a small amount of money.

As a last resort, disassemble the device and check for any signs of tampering to remove all your doubts.

Your new and genuine Trezor Safe 3 should come without firmware installed. Trezor Suite should verify that the device is genuine and install only genuine firmware on it. Any pre-installed firmware is a big red flag that the device has been used and possibly tampered with.
It's not likely but just pay attention to it.

I don't consider seals and hologram stickers as anything to prove anything because those are the easiest to fake or replace.

If you have concerns, you can and should Authenticate your Trezor Safe 3.

The setup process is described in detail here: https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-devices/trezor-safe-3/get-started-with-the-trezor-safe-3
Follow every step carefully!

The normal setup process as far as I can see from above link will verify that your device is genuine, anyway. Just make sure to download and verify a genuine copy of Trezor Suite from trezor.io. (Frankly, I don't like that Trezor doesn't seem to provide hash checksums and/or signatures to verify downloads on their website; you have to go to the Github page for that... or I'm blind.)

It's not clear in this photo. I'll take another one later.

When you opened your Trezor Model 3's package, was the box sticking tight with the cover?

I'll do that later after I get home. Trezor support told me that the hardware wallet doesn't have any firmware installed. Because if there is, unplug immediately and send it back to them for forensic testing.

No. Haha.

If you're referring to the box that contained Safe 3, cable and the starting pack, mine is still completely attached to the cover [I tried my best to detach it, but it partially ripped the side of the outer cover].
- AFAIK, dry air can cause adhesives to lose their bonding properties over time, so perhaps it contributed to your case. Have you tried to set it up and see if it'd pass the authenticity check?

A while back, I bought a Safe 3 on Amazon, which was also sold by Trezor itself

At the time, I checked here to make sure everything was in order with my package
https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-devices/trezor-safe-3/authenticate-trezor-safe-3

It’s a good reference for you to check out
In addition to the holographic seal, the Trezor should come with no firmware installed
When you download the software from Trezor’s website, it will show you whether the device is truly firmware-free
Furthermore, the software includes a test to verify that your device is genuine and unmodified

I highly recommend reading the link I sent you
I don’t think you need to worry if it’s just because of the glue, since there can be variations in the paper, glue, and sticker due to age, quality, etc

The box I had wasn't "completely attached". The feeling when I took it off was, like it was already opened, then glued back together again.

Although the security seal was still intact, and the hologram sticker was also still intact.

I will look for my old computer this weekend. I'll never risk and try it in my main computer.

Maybe you can use a live OS too? Just disconnect your storage and other stuff if that bothers you a lot. As far as my understanding goes, you'll have to install a new firmware if you're using the device for the first time anyway, and that shouldn't change whether you use a live OS or not. CMIIW.
