I have the domain, I have the script, and I am in the process of populating my cryptocurrency glossary

I need 50 cryptocurrency terms that newbies need to learn first. Send me at least 5 of your own that you think newbies should learn first. Please check out the other replies to avoid double entries.

I will lock this thread when I get the 50 terms.

Disclaimer: I will be using AI in this glossary for complete data, of course, with human review through paraphrasing.

The first and foremost will be "Bitcoin Blockchain" of course. Then comes, "Seed Phrase", "Coins & Tokens", 'Cold & hot wallet", "Public/private keys", "CEX & DEX". I mean there are so many terms that I can think of, but imo, newbies should first, start with Bitcoin, how it's build, terms around it, then different typo of wallet, then about seed phrase, and how to store BTC, what it means to be custodial and non custodial, the exchanges, those things. As far as remember, when I first got myself involved with Crypto, I didn't made any research or anything, I just created my first non custodial wallet. That's how it all started I believe..

You can dump some of the key words from this site: https://www.learnbitcoin.com/glossary and use your own definitions and explanations..

site derived from this thread : New Resource:Learn Bitcoin Glossary .

There’s another thread on Beginners and help with some listing bu I can’t reach that, probably you can take your time going through pages or using some tools.

Newbies should first understand these 5 cryptocurrency terms.

Wallet: All types of wallets,  open source and closed source. Knowing what wallets are will give them an idea of how to store their coins.

Private Key: Understanding what a private key is will help them understand how to secure their coins.

Address: This is the wallet identifier. Understanding what an address is will make them understand where to send and receive coins.

Transaction Confirmation: Understanding how transactions work will help them set up the right fee and determine when the right time is to send.

Mining: Understanding how mining works will help them understand the core of how cryptocurrency works.

These 5 terms are very important for newbies, and these are the subjects being taught on videos for newbies.

If you ask senior and experienced members about it, it's unlikely they will give you helpful answers.

The question needs to be asked with newbies and answers need to be given by newbies for the most newbie-matched demand.
If you want, you can set a rule for this topic such as only Newbies are allowed to post here with their 5 most favorite terms by each newbie. Are you ready for doing that?

Thanks for dropping by, and why not if you are a knowledgeable person in cryptocurrency and you are teaching a newbie, what are the 5 terms that you want them to learn first

I make it open even to the advanced, because they experience teaching a newbie, or they are already advanced and just want to share what the terms that they should have learned first to fully understand cryptocurrency when they were newbies.

For my part, I would suggest these.

  • Wallet Security
    • Multisig
    • Watch-Only Wallet
  • Transaction Basics
    • UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output)
    • Change Address
  • Advanced Wallet Features
    • Coin Control

Although most beginners learn about wallets, private keys, and seed phrases first, which is important. However, I think these terms deserve attention as well because they help users understand how Bitcoin actually works behind the scenes.

Importance of Jobs aka Source of income before any investments.
Desire for cryptocurrency in general, this keeps them in shape for always wanting to learn more.

Knowing what Bitcoin truly is, everything else comes later, like Ethereum and others.
Knowing what Blockchain is.
Knowing what cryptocurrencies are.

They also need to know the difference between Bitcoin and Altcoins.
They need to also understand what Satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC

The next thing is wallet and self custody.
Seed phrases and private keys.
Public Key and wallet addresses.

Buying and selling of coins and tokens via Exchanges.
Difference between Dex and Cex
Market Order and Trading pairs, ETC.
KYC, Liquidity and Slippage.

There are things to know about transactions too.
Difference between transaction fees and gas fees (this took me a long time to know).
Mempool and others.
Blockchain confirmation and Transaction hash.

here[1] you will find more than 50 terms. If you want more, use the search function as there are more topics.

[1]

Most of them haven't changed since 2024, so you might need to add 5 or 10 terms that appeared in 2025 to have a complete list.

Seems you didn't get enough, and the thread is still open for more

When I was basically a beginner, these terms confused me a lot. Self-custody, Privacy, Anonymity, and Decentralisation. The terms have some things in common, but if a newbie dont understand what they mean, one term might be confused for the other.

Forgive me for dropping 4 instead of 5 as you requested.
