Everything you said is true, OP, especially point number one. I truly feel it and just discovered this fact, and I think point number one is what makes gambling successful and has grown to be as big as it is today.

Well, like I've said before in my previous comment on this thread, this will depend on the gambler and how he or she has gotten used to gambling, because I am here trying to imagine myself declaring I won't ever gamble again, if I ever make such a declaration, then trust me, nothing will ever make me get involved in gambling again so long as I meant it when I said it..

Not even the thought of my previous winning and know that I could potentially win again will make me change my mind after I've declared that I am quitting gambling for good, because one thing we must understand is that there are always the possibility of two outcomes from gambling..
1. The outcome of winning
2. The outcome of losing
And the outcome of losing is way more common than the outcome of winning, so when ever we think about our previous win and feel tempted to gamble again, simply think about your previous loses as well and remember that that bet you are about to stake could end up as a loss as well..

It is simply addiction as addiction is the only reason why someone who has decided to stop gambling will always return back. It is not a matter of if they are profiting from the gamble that they are playing or not but for the fact that they keep returning back to gambling then they must obviously love it and if they don't love it then they have no choice by the decision that they are making and that is how an addict can be identified. A lot of people put themselves in situations that they can't get out off because of their greediness, if when they started gambling they were discipline and did not over spend their money on betting then they won't have gotten addicted but still be in control of the decisions that they make hence.

You are right in everything you have said there. However, just to add mine, I think financial desperation could also be the biggest reason why gamblers keep returning after deciding to leave gambling.

With their debts piled up due to gambling, some have already assumed that the best way to resolve their financial crisis is to become non-stop from gambling. For them, that's the only possible way that they can quickly regain what they have lost, that's probably one of the reasons why gamblers keep returning after so much losses and countless frustrations they feel when they are deeply at loss.

There cases do exist but I question how often they come across, because we tend to give this advice a lot. Only the most foolish people would believe that they can get out of debt by continuing to gamble. It is such that we consider this error very basic, and to know how to avoid digging your own grave should not be hard. There are ways to work on debts, but gambling is not a way through which this can happen. The question in the thread is why many gamblers return, and I would think it wants us to list reasons that apply to many individuals but it may not be so because there are many reasons given here. The one that you provide is valid but I don't think it really is the case for even like 1 percent of return gamblers.

In cases where the "I am done" was a result of the gambler wanting to take a break from gambling, I don't see them coming back as an issue. The only time this becomes an issue is when the "I am done" was a result of them wanting to be permanently away from gambling, but yet return after a few months or a few weeks of taking that BREAK.

I could say I am done simply because I have experienced so many losses and just want to take some time off gambling to clear my mind, and then return, probably after a few months. That doesn't mean this is because I am coming back because I couldn't take the losses, or because I feel I have more control over my gambler though it might be true. Taking some time off from gambling will make you see things differently compared to someone who just keeps gambling nonstop for months or years.

It may be so but you have to consider that people who just decide to take a break can also be people who should permanently walk away from gambling, there are many people who have sacrificed a lot for gambling already even if they don't see it. This means that this can be a problem for some of those people in the group that decide to take a small break too.

The number reason why gamblers tend to go back to their gambler habits even after they have announced that they aren't gambling anymore is the fact that they believe and have the hope that one day they can replicate a similar winning that they have experienced before or possibly the wins that they have been hearing from other gamblers because sometimes gamblers tend to get delusional and feel they can also experience that big win they hear about when other gamblers get to win such.

If its about thrill of winning, don't forget that there are pain of loses as well, if a gambler who have decided to quit gambling because of too much loses, how do you really think thrill of winning alone can take that person back to the same gambling he stopped due to loses? If he thinks about the winning, he will also think about the loses and rest, knowing that nothing changed, but the soft addiction they already developed for gambling won't allow them last long without returning back to the same gambling.

The urge to gamble again is part of the recovery process and yes when I was trying to recover, I certainly didn’t succeed right away because I kept trying and failing simply because of that urge to go back, even though we’d promised ourselves it would be just once yet, betting repeatedly can still happen.

All you listed here are true , especially there is a level where you gamble , despite losing so much your mind begins to tell you that winning is closed , because they know exactly how winning feels , I have been in such situations, ever since I won tangible money some years back ,up till date I still feel I can win such amount , whenever I thought of giving up I remember the joy in me on that faithful day , that alone has changed my mindset so badly , you see winning especially tangible money with small shake will always make one to feel there is so much opportunities for you, if only you can keep pushing, it’s funny but that is the truth.

Because we don’t really mean it. We just say it because we lost, and that feels like the right thing to say when the loss is unexpected.

I know it sounds stupid and crazy, but I have done that many times in my gambling life. Despite that, I am still here gambling. I even tried to self-exclude myself from my casino account before, but I was never successful.

So I think it is normal to feel that way when the loss is quite big. But when we calm down, we realize that without gambling, life feels boring.

I know that's how most of us feel and I respect your opinion on that, but to me the reverse is the case. Because it mostly trigger addiction and make someone or a gambler to be more less in charge of his gambling activities, and In most cases gamblers that easily come back to the game after living it due to one reason or the other,  they easily become slaves to it because they actually can not stand on their words.

I would say that former gamblers return to gambling mostly because they want to feel same emotions again. Like we dream to get back to childhood and repeat all over again, so the same do they. I dont think they return for money. If they have retired years ago, then they have improved their financial status already. It is definitely not a habit, because they would not have retired at first place. It is not a desire to recover losses, because nobody would have waited so long, but would have started playing immediately. There is a right way to quit, you just don't say it's enough. When you start talking to people close to you about the need to quit and being open to getting rehabilitated, then he is really on his way to getting rid of his addiction. Taking action is the right way to get cured.

Some gamblers actually meant every bit of their words when they said they are done you won't see them coming back to gamble again, I have someone who was never a gambler but due to the critical medical condition of his mother he was forced to gamble so he could raise some money for her treatment and as luck may have it, he bet and won a substantial amount of money and after winning and taking care of his mother's hospital bills he stopped gambling till today, so it depends on the individual who decides to quit and sticks to his decisions never to come back.

Many gamblers come back to gambling because of lack of Jobs or get influenced by a win that was advertised somewhere and they want to possibly try their luck once again and see if they can win. Gambling gives a special feeling and most gamblers who quitted would want to have that feelings again and that's why you see them coming back and not necessarily making profit.

That's quite an unexpected reason, to be honest, I never thought that people return to gambling simply because they're bored. In that case, I'd immediately like to ask: what hobbies do you have in your life, what are you passionate about? Wouldn't it be more interesting to focus on your hobbies instead of going back to slot machines, especially when you already know that you lose money on them? You say that you'll never return, but then you're back again the following week because you're bored. Honestly, I find that very strange.
