My guess is it to erase the history of the chart. Rebrandings happen all the time.
There are success stories too though: AAVE used to be LEND, it's actually a dinosaur coin launched in 2017 as "EthLend" and its rebranding erased all the 2017-2019 shenanigans from the chart and entering the 2021 bullrun it looked very clean.
There are many of them like this, also another one is Matic, but which people may not discuss about as the coin rebranded to the name of its network which is Polygon. The coin is now called Pol.
One thing I noticed about these coins as they rebranded is that for example, the coin might have fallen from $20 to 0.9. The coin will rebrand so that the exchanges will remove the $20 all-time high to the price the coin name was changed. If the coin name was changed when it fee to $1.9 after it rose from $0.9, you will see $1.9 as the all-time high on exchanges. Also the same on sites like Coinmarketcap and others.
