And this is another reason why I don't drink. Besides causing liver problems down the road, addiction, and temporary mind paralysis from doing any serious work, it also leads crypto kidnappers your way with a loose mouth. Far from not believing that alcohol is a problem when it comes to human health, but I would still make a distinction between those who drink it in large quantities and those who occasionally have a glass or two of good wine or a shot of good whiskey. Therefore, as with many things in life, you need to find a good measure of what you do or consume and you won't have any problems endangering your health or saying something you shouldn't say in public. In addition, what is the percentage of those who do not consume alcohol, keep it a secret that they own cryptocurrencies, and keep their backup in the cloud or as an unprotected file on their computer? Therefore, the OP is not completely right with his statement, because even a closed mouth will mean nothing if you allow the backup to leak in some other way.

That is the biggest challenge when keeping the security. Because mouths are bound to talk, no matter how others are trying to stop it. Although some may be good not talking at all, but majority find theirselves flexing and even overshare and eventually ruin their security.
Yes, seed phrases don't leak, but mouths do. But this is from a beginner's point of view, from those who think that security will not be compromised at any cost. However, for those who have been used to anonymity and high security as they have been in the market longer, their experience has taught them valuable lesson as much as high anonymity and security are concern.

If nobody knows you own Bitcoin, you have a 0% chance of being targeted simple as it may sound !
Have a good Sunday all.
Yes, I totally agree to what you just said above regarding we been the major reason or factor that will determine if our Bitcoin will be hacked or stolen or not, base on how we talk and relate to others about our respective financial capabilities. Because, it's true that if people don't know you own Bitcoin, you have 0 zero to worry about it getting lost, most especially when we keep it's seed phrases secured and avoid engaging in discussions at bar that will lead to exposing your finance or give a rough estimate of how much they could own. Because it is from conversations like this that people usually get spot as a potential victim.

I agree, everyone think that they're too late for seeing those who are boasting their bitcoin gains, the amount they hold, the mining rigs or whatever they own. When you keep everything low profile, you'd be safe from all of the evil eyes and ears. You'll never know if the person next to you knows about your tales and trusting them too much is going to be your biggest risk than taking the risk of holding bitcoin.

LOL, that's why we should really be very careful who we talk in terms of our investment (not just crypto). And most likely that is going to be true for crypto enthusiast who go and have fun weekly over a beer or whatever drink that can influence our decisions. But there could be some who are resilient, not going to give up under duress. Just enjoy and talk everything under the sun, even our crypto investment, but will not reveal to someone not trusted, even you got drunk.

True, even a simple harmless thread asking question on how they keep their bitcoin or keep their seed can become risky if users start oversharing details about their setup.
It's even worse in real-life conversations, especially in casual settings like drinking with friends, where people may reveal more information than they intended. Sharing specific details about your holdings, security practices, or where you keep your backups can create unnecessary risks.

People don't realize that when they talk about their mining setup or the amount of Bitcoin they hold with others, the risk is just as great because they are indirectly implying that they hold Bitcoin, making them prime targets for criminals. There have been numerous cases of wrench attacks due to individuals flaunting or leaking their Bitcoin holdings, and this is because they don't maintain their privacy.
It's best to just keep your mouth shut and avoid showing off your Bitcoin on social media or at bars. You never know what's on someone's mind. One slip of the tongue about your Bitcoin could hasten your funeral.

That's true, some people spill the information to someone they believed in, someone they thought would keep the information confidential but it results that the person would also tell another person that they trust and then the person will also tell another person they also trust and that's how the information will be moving until it gets to the ear of someone with evil intentions. There are some information I can not give out because I don't know whom the person I'm giving the information will end up telling it to.

We are our weakest vulnerability. One thing I've come to notice is that humans wants to be recognized. We want to be seen by others, we want others to know that we have archived certain level in life. But to what extent? I've always told people that if you really want to succeed in life, you have to keep it small. Your friend circ!e should've small, so you can monitor how you do things. Some people keep a big circle of friends and what they talk about things kind of personal information, they don't know who would be upset about it or someone that would tell another person and put them in danger. As someone who is into investment we should learn to talk less about our investments to anyone. Don trust anyone, that should be a major code of ethics.

Most of the time the user exposes their seeds to a random mass attack not the targeted one on a specific individual. They just download pirated software or watch free porn while downloading something in the background that stays under the radar, while leaking all your data to someone who will use the information to proceed further.
And when you are rich it is hard to hide that from others, so stop hiding and start educating yourself will be my advice.

Yes, talking too much is actually more dangerous than a hacker attack on your computer. People who like to brag about their accomplishments expose themselves much more to criminals. As they say, "a closed mouth catches no flies", and when it comes to cryptocurrencies, silence is your best ally around strangers.

The absolute rule of Bitcoin OPSEC on Bitcointalk: Keep your mouth shut. While I do agree on this, I find it interesting (and sad) that just a couple of years ago people were pushing the others on sharing stories and getting people into Bitcoin. How much have everything change, and simply because 1 BTC means now a lot of fiat... And I expect to get even worse in the next years. PS. I start to believe that no matter how much we are loving the "not your keys, not your coins" quote, the vast majority of people are simply "not fit" for self custody.

This flexing phenomenon has always been a scourge that is ultimately self-defeating but unfortunately just because we want to be recognized by others sometimes most of us do not pay attention to the long-term consequences that might occur. I don't deny that I have also done this and I do not want to be someone who is naive because at the beginning I was in bitcoin I always tried to be seen by others and one of the things that was done was to show off on social media but over time I realized that this would actually make us able to get a pretty bad experience in the future so I changed my mindset.
This kind of condition seems to be becoming more and more commonplace now and until now there are not a few people who do things like this to be noticed by many people without caring about their own safety.

"not your keys, not your coins" is a great slogan, but most people aren't built for absolute financial responsibility. The fear of a single irreversible mistake is exactly why the masses prefer the comfort of ETFs and third parties over true sovereignty.

If you could open your mouth to tell someone, the listener also matters a lot, who do you tell. Yes you can say, trust no one but who you tell also matters. What if you tell your next of kin, who is still a teenager, will he sets you up?

It's quite important to let people know how important it is to secure their Bitcoin, as it is not something they talk about openly to anyone, no matter the conversation they are having with anyone.
Many people have found Bitcoin accumulation as what they can share their accumulation and profits journey without thinking twice that they can lose it to them. I want people to wake up to the reality that times are bad, people don't mind hurting their brother or friend because of the money they see them having

Just keep accumulating and make the pocket fat, but don't spread the word and have a loud mouth; wealth is not noise. True wealth comes with security, but some people like to showcase what they have made and think celebrating achievements gives them some level in society, but in reality it puts a target on their back.

What if you tell your next of kin, who is still a teenager, will he sets you up?
Perfect. Ego is the ultimate single point of failure. A teenager won't maliciously betray you their social media footprint will do it for them. One casual brag on Snapchat, and your buried steel is public domain. If you love your next of kin, protect them with silence. Your stack is like underwear: essential, but keep it hidden. but in reality it puts a target on their back. Or a label on their back ... if analyse this deeply we can say that sometimes people are doing it to create that false image of them ( but it s rare i guess ) .
