Yes, there were those and yet the bettor still lost money from that bet. I agree that overconfidence will also make us bet blindly. So, for every penny that we spend we can't think of it as a guarantee if the odds are very low. I think you are on the wrong track and confusing win rate with financial gain, because low odds pay little and the house edge will erode all your return over time.

I think the main point in this betting market is not to win more, but to bet when your real estimate of chance is higher than the probability embedded in the odds. That is the kind of reasoning you need to have... if the real chance is 78%, a fair odd would be 1.28, so if the bookmaker offers 1.25, that is not advantageous for you to bet, even if the probability of winning is high... the value of your bet is underestimated.
