Do you truly understand why Bitcoiners say, “Never sell your Bitcoin”?
The truth is that they don't want you draining their bags. If Bitcoin is to succeed, it needs quite a bit of liquidity. I actually think the people who sell the tops and then buy investments that kick off income so they can buy the bottom are the guys who support the market the most. If I never sold any Bitcoin, I wouldn't have the investments that allow me to stack now. Everyone's situation is different, but I'd advise you to not worry about other people when making your selling decisions. Hard agree. The liquidity argument gets ignored in most "never sell" discussions but it is fundamental. A market where everyone holds forever is not a healthy market, it is a religion. The people cycling in and out, taking profits and reaccumulating, are doing more for Bitcoin's price discovery than the ones who just disappear with their coins. "Never sell" as personal advice also ignores that everyone's situation is different, as you said. The guy who never sells because he has generational wealth behind him is giving different advice than it sounds to someone who needs that stack to actually function.

Sometimes you may be waiting in the process of hodling Bitcoin and fall into financial issues and the only solution you have at the moment is to sell your Bitcoin to solve the situation, no option than to sell your Bitcoin. I will not take such advise from anybody because is not going to affect them when I find myself in the police station or hospital.
Isn’t that the reason why an investor should have or has an emergency and other backup funds? Sometimes the reason why investors fall into some situations that pushes them into debt or tapping into their stash is due to ignorance. Every investor should know that investing without an emergency or backup funds would definitely lead you into tapping into your bitcoin stash, because emergencies are inevitable, but keeping your backup and emergency funds readily available would literally create some kind of immunity for your investment against emergency or any kind of financial needs that’ll most likely pop up in the future.

However, there are many cases where emergency fund is not enough to deal with an emergency. Emergencies are always unpredictable, and sometimes they are far worse than we imagine. In those situations, besides borrowing money and selling assets, we are left with very few options. In general, we shouldnt sell Bitcoin before reaching our investment goal. But if there really is no other option, there is nothing wrong with selling it.

Any asset we buy, we buy with a specific purpose, most often, it's to make a profit. And I don't think there are investors so fanatical, so blindly believing in Bitcoin, that they buy it to hold it for their entire lives and pass it on to their children. Investors buy Bitcoin to sell it later at a profit. Even Saylor, who said he'd never sell, is now forced to sell, so I don't think there are any investors in the world who are ready to hold any asset for their entire lives. Perhaps there are those who strongly believe in gold. Actually, I do too, and such an asset can be held for a very long time. But Bitcoin still remains a high risk asset.
I also do not believe anyone would be so fanatical as to hold onto Bitcoin forever without selling it. Bitcoin is an investment, and making a profit is the main reason most people get into the market in the first place. So it is hard to believe anyone would put most of their wealth into Bitcoin with no plan to make a profit. A lot of people give that advice to others, but they do the exact opposite themselves. Saylor is a good example. He tell everyone to never sell Bitcoin, yet he has sold his own Bitcoin. Watch what they do, not what they say. Bitcoin is riskier than gold, but that is not why we should sell it. We sell because that is the whole point of investing in the first place. Investing is about making a profit. I agree with you on that. I mean what's the purpose of investing without being able to profit from it. It's not even possible to hold forever, someone's goal might be to hold for 8- 10 before selling and some might even hold longer than that as long as they're able to reach their personal target. You are right about those people who gives advice but does the opposite things, because I have seen some of my friends in that situations before, this is why I don't listen to all advice, instead I try to do my own research. The best thing is for someone to have a clear exit plan, because a lot of people who does not have it, are the ones who sell at the wrong time. Having a clear plan will help someone avoid greed and decisions based on weak emotions especially when the market is fluctuating a lot.

When this funds are needed it will result to them horridly selling there holdings before getting to maturity stage. This type of people are the ones at the long run will say that Bitcoin is not productive and not a good investment without taking there time time to study how it really works.

People comes into bitcoin with different mindset, and how they want to invest some people do have their own plans why they’re investing into Bitcoin, I think there is nothing wrong or bad if someone chooses to invest in Bitcoin with a loan, because you can only be satisfied and considering what is obtainable for them in the longest time investment, you need to have every necessary plans on how to repay any loans that we have else it’s going to be a huge problem and challenge, anyone can fail with their investments but I feel something isn’t adding up when someone starts saying negative things about bitcoin.

Why should your first investment capital come from a borrowed source? that is the worse way of getting into the bitcoin space because if there is a delay in how bitcoin gets bullish and the person that lends you that money comes asking, you have succeeded in landing into big issue and that is going to make you get a wrong perspective of what bitcoin investment is about. even if it involves that you are to start your investment journey with a relatively small amount, it is better you start that way rather borrowing for an investment course and then rushing to sell off just because you are afraid of a loss. The only means through which you can invest for the long term is when the amount you are using for your investment is yours and with that you can afford to let your investment stay for as long as you want.

If you want to listen to some Bitcoin investors you will continue regretting until you grow to some stage that will open your mind not to complain when you sell your Bitcoin. After all, personal safety or the safety of one life is the most important thing to maintain. If someone is in dire straits, and has to sell all their assets (including Bitcoin) to save their life, then they should do so. After all, personal safety is a top priority over anything else. So, I don't think there is anything wrong with selling Bitcoin if it is necessary for urgent matters. Furthermore, everyone who invests in Bitcoin aims to improve their standard of living and financial well-being for the future. Ultimately, it is all about a better life. Therefore, try to invest in Bitcoin with careful planning, which means allocating sufficient funds to maintain it for the long term.

“Never sell your Bitcoin”? Then why are you buying and holding it? To make a showpiece out of it? A better statement would be: “Never sell your Bitcoin at the wrong time.”
To elaborate, it’s perfectly fine to sell your Bitcoin whenever you genuinely need money. The long-term objective is simply to hold it for as long as possible. Over time, its price is expected to rise due to increasing demand and the fixed supply of Bitcoin. For example, if you don’t need to sell your Bitcoin for the next 10 years and then suddenly require money, that’s the right time to sell it. By then, there’s a good chance Bitcoin’s price will have increased significantly, allowing you to earn substantial returns on your investment.
That’s what is really meant by the sentence, “Never sell your Bitcoin.”

Good advice from you, and it's reasonable. Indeed, many different perspectives and perspectives emerge when embarking on this promising investment journey. It's a good idea to delay or pause for a moment, but in the sense that we're preparing using our own capital, it's better than rushing, especially if we intend to jump in quickly by borrowing money from friends or others, because we're tied to the loan's maturity date. If the market is doing well, that's fine, and we know that investing in crypto is characterized by highly volatile prices. Another important thing to remember is that when buying, buy from a trusted source. Never sell your Bitcoin.

This type of people are the ones at the long run will say that Bitcoin is not productive and not a good investment without taking there time time to study how it really works. Mixing emergency funds or using debt to invest in Bitcoin due to a lack of financial literacy can ultimately trigger panic selling, leading to misconceptions about the potential behind Bitcoin. If someone says Bitcoin is not a good investment it is because they do not understand the rules of the game in Bitcoin investment. They consider Bitcoin as an ATM machine, this assumption is very wrong because they don't understand volatility, don't understand DCA, don't understand not your keys, so in the end they are disappointed with Bitcoin due to their own mistakes. I liken Bitcoin to land. If you buy land using borrowed money, 6 months later you suddenly need the money for other needs and sell it at a loss. After that, you blame the land for being unproductive. That's very unfair in my opinion because Bitcoin is designed for 4 years, not 4 months.

I agree that “never sell your Bitcoin” is not an all-embracing rule. Long-term holding has been successful with many investors, but sometimes, selling is the best call based on individual objectives and financial requirements. Liquidity is the key factor in markets, and it is essential that there be active buyers and sellers in order to discover the price and to ensure the health of the market. Some people make money on it, invest in more income-generating assets and then reinvest that money into more bitcoins. Ultimately, you must choose the strategy that works for you; not one that's based on an ad campaign slogan.

This is a very bad way to start investing. If we look deeper, even investing by setting aside your own income still carries risks, let alone starting with borrowed funds, which certainly won’t end well. And speaking of emergencies that force you to sell Bitcoin. Of course, no one wants that to happen. More than that, i personally always divide my remaining funds into three parts: discretionary funds, emergency funds and reserve funds. Discretionary funds are for accumulation Bitcoin. Emergency funds are for emergencies. Reserve funds are for making additional purchases when prices drop or can be used to cover extra costs in an emergency, these funds are flexible.

Do they have at least $10 to buy? Why not use from the smallest rather than forcing yourself to borrow just to invest because maybe for the beginning this looks as a very good thing but in the end we can be confused with what will happen after. We have to get dizzy paying monthly for collateral and settle debts that precisely this will weigh on your financial condition. So instead of that happening, wouldn't it be better to stay in the smallest area like preparing $10 to buy rather than forcing borrowing. We have to see how the financial condition we have before acting although being in bitcoin is a good thing but borrowing just to force investing for me it is too much when your financial condition is not very good.

I don't know why I'm seeing this thread like more as ass licking, they are saying they are not going to sell Bitcoin, like we doing that in 2026? Well, if you are doing that in 2026 then I assumed thag you have other source of income which is the best in my opinion but if you don't have another source of income and you have problem financially, and you refused to sell Bitcoin, then that's on you, it's your problem but I hope it doesn't affect you in any way. You can sell Bitcoin if you have problem and then buy back later. There are people that have sold their Bitcoin at $100k plus and they were happy they did, they have bought back the same amount at lower pice and the bigger advantage is that they have more money. The strategy is not bad as long as you sell the Bitcoin at the top, there is always a chance to buy back. Please take care of yourself and health if there is emergency to fix your life.

I will be honest until a few years ago, I did not really understand what “never sell your Bitcoin” meant. I thought the point was simply that you should never sell Bitcoin because its exchange rate would keep rising. Why sell something that is gaining purchasing power
But when I started spending time with Bitcoiners, attending Bitcoin meetups, and reading books from the Austrian School of economics, I realized that this was not the real point. That is when I finally understood why Bitcoiners say: “Never sell your Bitcoin.”
Do you truly understand why Bitcoiners say, “Never sell your Bitcoin”?
what then did you truly understand after you started spending time with Bitcoiners, attending Bitcoin meetups, and reading books from the Austrian School of economics? but i truly don't get the point of your post and i also want to know what truly the meaning of not selling bitcoin implies because the primary understanding we have is that, we shouldn't sell because there is still hopes that it will appreciate in value and if you have a more different and advance meaning please do well to share with the community because i also would want to learn as we all learn everyday. I don't know if anyone already asked you similar question and would glad if my attention is been drawn to the response so i too can learn and not be left out.

You should have attached what "Never sell your Bitcoin" meant to this thread so that others would learn and not get confused because I honestly think "never sell your Bitcoin" is basically telling Bitcoin holders never ever to sell which most investors would never agree to because the reason for investing is to make profit at some point so telling me not to sell my Bitcoin at the time that I know is right is like telling me not to make profit, true its price will keep rising but we still have the sell and make profit from our investment at some point, so I don't understand why they say "Never sell your Bitcoin" .

That’s what is really meant by the sentence, “Never sell your Bitcoin.”
He must sell bitcoin one day, he should not sell at the wrong time. I asked why he holds bitcoin but he did not explain. Why is he buying if he is never selling? He must have made the wrong statement because never selling bitcoin is not an honest option. If you need money which is locked in bitcoin you are going to unlock the cash.

Not everyone in Bitcoin investment owns the Capital used in the investment, some borrow the funds sometime just to know how profitable investing in Bitcoin is, and to some they use funds made for some other projects as to try investing in Bitcoin. When this funds are needed it will result to them horridly selling there holdings before getting to maturity stage. This type of people are the ones at the long run will say that Bitcoin is not productive and not a good investment without taking there time time to study how it really works. If someone starts with zero funds and has to meet a basic and necessary expense before their next paycheck, they may have to use Bitcoin if they don't have any money until their next paycheck. For example, a person earns $500 every two weeks and their basic expenses are $400, which means they have $100 in discretionary funds. If they use all of that to buy Bitcoin, they won't have any money to meet any basic expenses until their next paycheck in two weeks. One solution to the $100 discretionary fund every two weeks is to divide $33.33 into three parts: 1) Investment 2) Savings (back-up fund) 3) Discretionary consumption. So after 1 year, your total investment will be $866, savings will be $866, and discretionary consumption will be $866. This way, even if you are poor, you can build both at the same time. And the poor need a backup fund more than the rich.

When you say “never sell your bitcoin”, the statement doesn’t make sense because it’s like an incomplete statement which if not properly understood will be misleading.
You are the one that is not getting it the right way, never sell you bitcoin can not stop anyone from selling bitcoin, but he should know that if he sell his bitcoin, the price would have increased more after some years. That is what the statement is all about. It is a very good statement and very correct and not misleading. It was never a misleading statement to me also because that is a statement to motivate the beginners and people who are very quick to sell their bitcoin, the statement is also for those who don’t know how to hold a bitcoin for a long time and the reason why it is good to hold a bitcoin for a long time is because everyone want to enjoy his investment in the end, the price can rise and some individuals might already sell their bitcoin and they will miss the best opportunity of their life and regret or seeing bitcoin as a bad investment, if their is no statement to motivate people when they are investing in bitcoin i don’t think many people will see it as long term investment, people will see it as the trading.
