I don't know if the discussion will fall under the category of an off topic discussion but I just had the thinking that there is a place dressing and looking good and how it affects your personal economy because when personal economy is good the society economy becomes better. There is this idea that some people have and I have heard from some around that if you actually need help you should not try to overdress or dress in a manner that looks like you do not need help so that people who can actually help you financially or with opportunities do not believe that you do not need your help based on you are good looking and put together already, but I am of the opinion that you should actually dress properly so that you would be approachable or be able to approach individuals who are in a position to be able to help you and they would help you probably without looking down on you. What is your opinion on this, still dressing up when you need help or dressing like the help you need?

It does seem related to the economy because people often say dress for the job you want. If you want to be the director of a big company, who often have to attend very formal and professional functions, then people should become familiar seeing you in the right attire - which is sometimes a full suit. Obviously that would be more of a white collar sort of workplace, it's harder to distinguish yourself in certain trade jobs where it matters less. It's really true of all levels of the business as well, if you have poor personal hygiene or let your clothes get dirty at work then that image of you can stick in peoples minds. It also fits in with staying healthy, both eating properly and exercising, because staying in the right shape will often complement your outfit. There are also jobs where you might need to secure sales and interact with clients, if on paper you and another company are equal, the person who looked the smartest might win new business.

Some people respect you based on your appearance, most importantly in the place of work. What is destined to be yours will becomes yours no matter how long it takes. But that doesn't mean you should render yourself useless or look so rough. Even if someone wants to give you a job or something and you didn't look attractive or responsible they could easily change their mind,, I know some people won't mind despite your look, but for your self-respects it is really important to be dressing very well.

Dressing in rag does not guarantee favor, rather it bring your self esteem to the level you make your self look like. A person who dresses well and go for a job interview or a person looking for contract and looking tattered may not get that contract because they will think that you might run away with the money if the contract is awarded to you. There will be many things that will come in the mind of the person who want to help you. There is always a perception about poor people, they usually see poor people as one that can not be trusted with money because they see every small thing as opportunity. And when you look so poor in your appearance it may attract bad luck. Dressing well brings good luck and not the other way round.

To me in my own opinion, dressing well and seeking help is not actually a bad thing, looking neat, and confident does not mean you do not have challenges or that you don’t need support, in fact looking at most many successful people prefer to assist people who show self respect and seriousness through their appearance and how they coordinate themselves. That mentality of looking poor to get help can actually work in some cases, but it can also limit opportunity because the way you dress is the way you will be addressed, and when you are dressed and well presented, people are often more willing to listen to your ideas, and connect you with opportunities. To me what matters most is honesty if you need help, be truthful about your situation regardless of how you dress.

You know, some people feel they need to dress a certain way to create a certain impression but again when your pocket can't keep up, it becomes a problem as well. The op is right, there's a certain posh look you'd be on, the next person will conclude that everything is alright with you and push the opportunities that you should have gotten to someone else that they feel is in need of it.

Indeed your personality is affected by your attire and appearance. One of my friend is working in a pharmaceutical company and there company isn't recognised by many however there competition is with multinational organisations and most of the time they beat them because of there presence and appearance in front of the doctors. I believe that 90 percent of the doctors are convinced to their products because of their appearance. The company emphasises on their dressing more than anything else and that is why they are moving forward.

If in your opinion I have to look unkept just because I want to appear as someone that's not doing fine just so you can help me, then it's better you don't even help me to start with.

If we even go down to look at this, if You dress in a condescending manner, the highest you can get from people is pity with maybe a small token that suits the way you present yourself. How far can appearing in a pitiable way take you? For you to get the help that truly matters, you need to show that you're someone that's capable of utilizing whatever you're giving to in the right way. If you can't use what you're given in the right way, then there's absolutely no reason whatsoever why you should be seeking for help.

Dressing bad just so people can pity you is a bad way to present yourself and personally, there's very little i can do to help you in a big way.

It depends on the occasion and how you are currently doing financially, because you can't just dress too well on normal days when you know you have nothing special to attend to if you can't afford to buy new cloths every month or so. When it comes to people approaching you or you approaching people for opportunities such as employment, then I must say that things like these don't happen just like that, it's not like you are walking on the road and someone with an opportunity just walk up to you and ask you whether you want it and they wouldn't do it if you are not dressed well.

When you are going to a party, an event, somewhere to ask for employment or to drop your CV, or even an interview, that is when you dress well even if you normally don't, and it's necessary for every person to at least have one or a couple of suites that they can use for special occasions because even if you don't wear good cloths normally, you should be able to do it when there is an occasion where you will meet different people, or if it's an important meeting you need to attend, because as they say, first impression is the last impression.

You are right, I got an apartment sometime ago ,so I wanted a painter my friend gave me contact of the person that does his own ,I called him on the phone we booked a date,when the guy came to my apartment I was so scared because of the way he was looking,he pierce his ears ,sprey his hair different color infact his appearance was nothing to write home about ,after looking at the place , he said he will send quotation for me later,I said okay , immediately he left I look for another person,he looks like a criminal to me.

You see appearance matters a lot ,no matter the kind of job or interview you are going for ,it's good to look smart and we'll presentable, the country is not safe, looking nice can actually help one secure job,they said looks doesn't matter but for me it really does.

I had a friend who didn't like meeting his friends at the store when he went there to buy milk. He always dressed like a poor man (in an old tracksuit). He explained this by saying that he wanted to look like someone who had no money. And that's how he always looked in that ridiculous costume. Nevertheless, he was a smart and cunning man who had money, and he was very good at collecting it. Even when he left the family with the children, he took his half of the apartment from them when selling it. I think it's stupid to dress poor, you always have to look good. It may not be rich, but it is neat and well maintained.

You can dress anything you want but you should use the right dress. No need to follow the lifestyle if you think that is difficult but you can use dressing like others. But people wants to be glamour by others especially when they gather with their friends or reunion with their old friends. That makes them dressing up and show off which is not good if you are not the person with that characters. You can dress up where you are or where you want to go so you don't wear the wrong dress.
