Morning - I tried to transfer BTC from my electrum wallet to my Cake wallet (same laptop, in Tails). The transaction shows as red in the amount history, so failed. The details show two input and two output addresses, the inputs are green. The outputs are not; one is yellow (= 'change'?), the other is standard text - the correct Cake Wallet address.

I have no idea what I should do. (I looked at the blockchain explorer (?) in Tor, but I don't understand any of it... There were many 'confirmations' though. Whatever that means.)

Any help would be much appreciated.

The transaction shows as red in the amount history, so failed.
In Electrum, outgoing tx amount in BTC is showed in red. I.e. -0.5687. It does not mean that the tx failed.
The details show two input and two output addresses, the inputs are green. The outputs are not; one is yellow (= 'change'?), the other is standard text - the correct Cake Wallet address.
If you are sure you have put the correct Cake Wallet address, then you should receive your funds once it has been confirmed on the blockchain. If you are not worried about the privacy of your tx, then share the tx id here, so we can check it out for you.

If it's showing you multiple confirmations that means the transaction has been confirmed and you should see it in Cake wallet.

If you don't, you should check on whether Cake wallet is properly connected. See this[1]

Maybe this can be helpful: Cake wallet not showing wallet balance

If not helpful:
If the transaction is showing confirmation already and Cake wallet is not showing it, why not import the seed phrase on another wallet like Sparrow which is a desktop wallet or Bluewallet which you can use as a mobile wallet? But make sure that Cake wallet synchronized with the blockchain before doing that.

I've tried the nodes malarkey that Z-tight kindly offered. There are only two nodes available in Cake, and only one is 'green'. (Switching makes no difference.) I also tried Seth's node, but that is always red. So, it looks like the problem is Cake, not Electrum...

In the post link from Charles, Ruttoshi says,

'Check the top left corner of the wallet where lightning symbol is as look if you will see an orange dot. That dot shows that your wallet have fully been synchronized.'

My 'dot' is yellow, but the connection is forever dropping in and out (five seconds in, ten seconds offline, etc.). But, since Z said he'd check [heart in mouth!], here's the ID: ***

So, it is possible to have your heart in your mouth and pooh in your pants, all at the same time...

On the Cake wallet that I have just set up right now, I am seeing 5 nodes there. They can first show red, but later in less than 3 to 5 seconds, they changed to green.

You can also go check where you seed phrase (+passphrase if included) is, make sure it is the same as your Cake wallet seed phrase. Do that to other wallets you have on Cake wallet. Delete the wallet app and reinstall it and import the seed phrase again. I guess this should work.

I have checked using the transaction id you provided, and yes, your tx has been confirmed a long time ago, 89 confirmations as of the time of typing this and there are no issues with the tx.

So obviously the problem is not from Electrum, but from Cake Wallet and all you can do is run all the possible troubleshoots that have been suggested in this topic. As Charles-Tim suggested, maybe you should delete your wallet and restore it with the seed phrase, however, before doing this, confirm your backup to be correct, so you don't lose your funds.

In case what has been suggested above does not work, I would just go ahead and try to install Cake on another platform. Say your phone for example, and try to restore it there. Just in case there is a problem with the desktop/linux version.

Alas...

Many thanks to Charles & Z. I have gone through all the ideas here but nothing has worked. Finally, I deleted the Cake files & re-installed them, but this did not work. I got the Cake Wallet files from a Persistent back-up and checked the seed phrase, which is fine. The password also works fine. There is a file called 'transactions', but I can't read it in the text editor.

There are still only the two 'official' nodes,  plus the Seth node I added, but only the top node shows green, and this drops in and out of conection continually. I fear the only conclusion is that the send address was wrong... (I pasted it so I'm not sure how - maybe a space at the end, or something?)

All very distressing. But, since the nodes are not loading, I wonder if it's a program glitch. Maybe I can load Cake in Windows and restore the wallet there? Is that possible?

No, you copied a valid BTC address, there is no doubt about that. The only question of it being wrong is if the wallet address belongs to someone else, not about anything else. Because if you copy an address wrongly, i.e. wrong character or space in between characters, it would show up as an invalid address and you cannot make the tx.

If you are certain that address is yours and part of your Cake Wallet, then your funds should show up as normal.

Yes. Since you have the seed phrase (assuming you haven't sent the funds to a wrong address), you will be able to get access to your funds.
Note that you don't have to import your seed phrase into Cake wallet. You can import your seed phrase into many other wallets including electrum.

Back to the address that you sent the funds to, have gone to confirm it that's the right address and there is no mistake or you have been affected by clipboard malware. Recheck it again to be very sure because I see no reason why your funds hasn't reflected in your cake wallet when it has shown more than 80 confirmation.

Try your next plan which is deleting the wallet app and download a new one to import your seed phrase and passphrase. It should work.
