I honestly thought they could beat the BB team, but it was a disappointing 2-0.  Not only that, but they also lost another match at a score of, well, another 2-0 against Nigma Galaxy. WTH

Well, back in the early days of Warcraft 3, that's when DOTA was actually born. A custom map mod for Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne.
I actually prefer the original DOTA (the custom map mod) compared to the very commercialized DOTA 2. Of course, graphics-wise, they did improve a lot of it in DOTA 2.
But I feel like playing the original version feels much more raw and authentic, plus the nostalgia hits really hard when playing it.

Fun play is definitely enabled across almost all providers on the site, including Hacksaw.

I just tested Arizona James and some other Hacksaw titles on fun mode and they launched and played without issues on my end, so the error  you got sounds like a local routing or CDN issue between Hacksaw's game server and your region/IP.

Try clearing your browser cache or switching network/VPN locations to see if it lets the demo session run properly. If it still acts up, let me know.
