I don't think many people will admit this but this is I believe the real reason for most, it is addictive! I had this episodes a long time ago where I thought gambling was fun and was really living that life even if I had it fully under control, but if you asked me why I played I would strongly tell you it was fun. Because I am less busy. There are times that I am idle for an hour during work, and I think that's what urges me to gamble and be entertained. Thankfully, I have found a way to play old console games through an emulator, and that is now what I am doing whenever I am idle.

If people gamble to relief stress and worries then those set of people really don't know what they're doing, because gambling doesn't relief stress and worries just as you posited, gambling increases your worries and stress, there's tension in gambling and if not check it can lead to attack and depression.
