That is a wrong mindset because if he still has debt, he should be able to save a small portion of his money to save, if he is so worried that the bank will take some of his money in his account to compensate for his debt, then he should be able to withdraw the money and keep it in cash. so this is just an excuse for him to find justification for gambling because if he really intends to save, then he should be able to do that and reduce his gambling.

If there's an activity that's bad for me, the best thing to do is not to do it. But as we all know, gambling is different. If we owe money, we shouldn't gamble until we pay off our debts. You are right, it is indeed real, and I guess it is no longer a hidden fact that those who gamble, even regularly, are not in a good economic situation. Some gamblers still have control with small money limits, so they can still set aside money to pay installments. However, there are also gamblers who do not really care about that, so after payday, most of their money will be spent on gambling.

You would be surprised with the amount of people out there on this world who are simply not willing to get a job in order to stabilize their life.
I have seen several cases on YouTube and in social media in general, of dozens of people who get out their way in order not to apply for a job, so they can continue to live from others or thanks to a minimal or effort.

Those kinds of people usually tend to abuse their social security, and other social aid programs of their government in order not to get a job.
Hell, I have even seen people from the United States and Canada faking mental illnesses like depression and autism, so they can get a cheque every month for doing nothing...
Those who live in countries without those mechanism resort to gambling and betting in sports, so they can pursue money in order to continue to nothing productive.

Otherwise he just actually wants to lose this money because in case he misses a couple loan payments the bank will even try to compensate the pennies he would have left in his bank account and he doesn't want to let them do that. Unfortunately, this idea is not obvious to everyone (even to smart people). Even smart people fall into the trap of thinking that others (who are not so smart) will do the right, rational thing. And by the way, I would add that learning the hard way also does not always lead to the desired result - if a person is not able to understand some things, then even the hard way will not correct him. Maybe this is the problem with gambling - on the one hand, there's free will and all that, and on the other, there's a percentage of the population that is incapable of understanding certain things and acting rationally.

The truth is that it's only a Gambling addict that can do such a thing. A Gambler that see saving as a waste of time but rather chose to gamble with it to increase the chance of winning big and paying off his Dept at once is already planning his/her downfall. Because the small amount that would have been used for saving will now be used to gamble away without a hope of getting something in return. Advising someone who is in debt while gambling is like giving advice to a deaf person because definitely the gambler will not listen to your advice and Al what is thinking at that moment is to win and pay back his loan and the more he thinks in that direction, and playing games, the more he will be losing it. People have advice others like this but the results were not good. Though it is good to tell the person to stop gambling and one day, he will understand better.

Proper advice and proper guidelines work like a small seed in our mind. If those messages of safe gambling or staying within the rules keep coming in front of us all the time, at that extreme moment of life's last frontier or when our back is against the wall, our brain suddenly could unlocks, the words might click.

For me, it has proven to be much more effective to use real and strict mechanisms or tools than just empty advice. I set a deposit limit on my account. Hope it's not one of the shady slot platforms which no genuine website and gaming service which promote easy winning and withdrawals to lure gamblers which were advertised on social media and sometime on YouTube?

He should have spent it to more important things like bills or other expenses in their household. Because ok given that the bank won't give any incentive for early repayment, then, you can always save the money so you won't have problem in the next coming months. In my opinion, this is a logical explanation for why he plays despite his debts. The debt will either be repaid by a happy accident or the bank will not receive even a small amount of money. In fact, this is a situation of slave debt, the ability to pay which is unattainable at this level of income. That is, it makes no sense to try to collect pennies to feed bankers, becoming their debt slave.

Apparently his bank doesn't give any benefits for early repayment. Even they had an insurance clause in their contract that in case of early repayment the inflation adjusted increases are not only forced in the payment, but also calculated based on a worse case scenario.

So my cousin argued that with the little he could save by the end of each month, there was zero point saving a few dozens of dollars in this economy. He just things he will keep playing slots because in case he wins big he can pay early just to not worry about the loan. Otherwise he just actually wants to lose this money because in case he misses a couple loan payments the bank will even try to compensate the pennies he would have left in his bank account and he doesn't want to let them do that. This shows serious addiction and it is not good at all, when in this situation, the gambler is  not spending a pointless amount but adding to his financial challenges, because if those money are being kept aside from the bank for some while can help in the payment of some portion of the loan, that is why it is not good to be indebted and be gambling because it will ruin your financial status since you will not be able to  pay back timely but keep on borrowing which is dangerous .

I agree with you that some people gamble with money feel is too small or significant to save. However, I do not think that is the right thing to do especially when the person is already in dept.

Perhaps your cousin should stop gambling and focus on finding other source of income in order to pay off his dept, If he continue gambling with every dollar he feels is to small to save you may end up saving nothing at all.

There is a saying that little drops of water make I mighty ocean and I believe in that saying, If your cousin start saving every dollar he get, before you know it he may save up a good amount of money to pay of his dept.

Right now that his gambling with every dollar he get because he feels the money is too small to save, yet his not even winning from gambling.
