It will happen when you least expect it! I guess that's happened to all of us, to win when we didn't expect it.... and I had some good hits, but sadly, it wasn't remotely close to a million. Many times, I had a huge desire, and I ended up losing entire balances...

So I don't think that life proved that this woman is wrong, it just proves that we can feel/think/want whatever and that will not affect the outcome... that luck is an important factor, and we never know where it will strike. The fact that she won the lottery doesn't prove that she's wrong. More than 90% of all the gamblers end up losing more money than they have ever won. Lotteries and scratchers aren't "hardcore gambling", if you ask me. Maybe she should've tried actual gambling games like blackjack, slots and roulette to prove her point. I wonder if she would have the same luck with those games.
Are you suggesting that the people, who buy scratchers and lottery tickets shouldn't "look for the money"? This is easier said than done, since everyone, who buys lottery tickets is hoping to win the jackpot. Luck works in mysterious ways, I would never win the lottery jackpot, if I tried to buy tickets only to convince someone, that "gambling is bad".

I am 99,99% sure, that after winning million with 10 bucks scratch card, while trying to prove that lottery is a waste of time, she immediately replied with "THAT DOES NOT PROVE ANYTHING" Sorry if someone gets offended, but often women will continue standing on her opinion even if they are wrong. Most likely that woman has replied that this is just luck and gambling is still waste of money.

Maybe, but at this point it doesn't really matter what else she says because her experiment was suppose to prove that gambling was a waste of money but it ended up making her the winner of $1m, there is no way she is going to tell the story that it will end in her favour so instead of trying to stand on her initial ground that has already been proven wrong by herself no less she should just take the winning in good faith, that money will do alot for her and her family.

I have to agree that, for some, gambling is a money waster while for others, it isn't. When a person is spending money that they do not have to spend, then it is not a financial matter but entertainment. If the amount of money is limited and the gambling is a socially responsible activity however. Gambling can be considered like going to the movie. Watching a sporting event or having a short trip. The woman's victory in the lottery doesn't mean that gambling is profitable. But it doesn't also mean that all gambling costs are being wasted. It is important to understand the odds and to gamble as a pastime. And not as a means to making money.

I don't see any similarities between gambling and lottery. You can buy a ticket one day and win or not win, but then don't go crazy about the result. But people gamble intentionally, not on a one-time basis (if we talk about gambling addiction), which is difficult to imagine in a lottery. Firstly, lotteries are not held regularly, but from time to time, and it is difficult to imagine a person who would be addicted to lotteries.

The example in the OP topic could be called differently. Miracles don't happen, she thought. This is a gambling that there is a chance to win it is real even to win big though, but behind that there is a greater chance of losing will occur so only a few people can get a big win in gambling.

Maybe those who are compulsive did win too but it is just that they are compulsive, so their winnings can only get back on the casino again. Do not let this example make you think that it is not waste of money. It is waste of money if your entire aim is to make money, and you gamble only for the money and nothing else.

Because while that woman may have won, the overall is that, everyone else lost, so the entire population that bought a ticket, lost, and that is why it's a waste of money, even in that case, it was not waste for only one person, and was waste for everyone else. You would definitely swallow up those words back when you hit up a million and you would immediately be changing up those mentality that gambling is just that  waste of money. Actually it really is, but it just that turned out that she did able to hit up those wins that everyone is really that hoping or wanting for. It's just luck It's not a matter of how's looking for money or not. Casinos don't know about your personal emotions, every persons is treated equally except that lucks can decide to favor some who puts less effort to someone who is actively engaged in gambling day in day out, the roles can still be reversed it's lucks thing.

That is why I said that the woman winning doesn't make any difference if she actually believes in what she was saying to the husband, since on the part of the husband he have being losing ever since and even until the very moment that we are talking about her jackpot winning, what she must understand is that, she will lose all the money won already if she keep gambling, but she should also accept that gambling os a game of luck.
