I'm still surprised to see that in this same life we live, some people will be desperate after ruining other people's lives for them to achieve their own and be accomplished in life, I can't imagine the kind of leadership we are going to have with a kind of set of people that have a negative thinking mentality and the boldness to do wickedness without even having a second thought and still expect to be our leaders.

When the idea busy using government fund they stole to buy ammunition, people are there suffering with lack of job and employment, poverty rate is increasing and there is no sustainability plan for the people to alleviate them from poverty, productivity in the economy sectors is on a downtrend, graduate are not planned for, not to talk of the vulnerable people and citizens of a country, it is high time we vote for our choice and not to sell our vote in any election being conducted.
The next general elections are next year. And I'm sure that people will not vote based on the competence and integrity of the candidates of various political parties. Tribalism, religion, and other irrelevant benchmarks would be used by many citizens to choose who they will vote for during these elections. It is obvious that the current Nigerian government is incompetent and should be voted out of power. Until we are ready to vote for the right candidate, insecurity will persist.

That is because they have been injected in their minds about the kind of ideology that they should be supreme, powerful and let the weak be destroyed. That leader won't change for the better and what he's thinking is that he's got these people following him and worshiping him. It's sad that these followers/members are willing to die for these leaders that they think are really caring for them although the obvious is that the leader is doing this for their personal gain and interest.

That is why those people will suffer for their actions. People take instance pleasure, as well as treasure important instead of thinking for the future of their children. Those children or parents who were kidnapped are there maybe due to the fact that their parent supported the current government. Karma is a bitch, we all know that. Karma find ways, now or in years to come to pay those wicked people back for their sins. The Yoruba land has supported the reign of the current government. And im glad they are the ones who is suffering the insecurity the most. I pray for them on a daily basis. Until there is a change of mind and direction for the future, nothing in Nigeria will be well.

Everything you have listed are very good step to stop or curb insecurity in a country,  but the biggest question you should ask yourself is are the government and the influential people in the society ready for it to come to an end; my honest answer is NO. This insecurity issue in Nigeria has lasted for about 16 years or more, so are you telling me that this bandits are better than our military or are they more in numbers than.our military,  my honest answer is still NO, so what is stopping them from chasing this bandit out or even end it. I strongly believe that the government knows about it and they don't want to stop it, because they might step on toes which they really don't want too. For me, before we can solve this insecurity issue the government must be ready to end it and believe it will come to an end or it will be reduced to the lowest in the country.

I think your suggestion are good, because it's aimed at reducing the insurgency,  but I think that this is still going on become people in government are benefitting from it. I really think that Nigerian government can stop or reduce this insurgency, but as I mentioned earlier,  I believe that their are people in the government that are sponsoring this terrorist and they don't want ot to end, because they are benefitting from it. This insurgency has been for about 16 years now and I don't think the government don't have a solution to end it or even reduce it to the bear minimum,  but rather I think they are the once behind it and that's why it's been very difficult to end it. As I mentioned your suggestions are good, but how do they implement it when people in the government are behind the insurgency.

I don't know if this is applicable to every African Countries but I think the root cause of most insecurities lies with this archaic pastural farming we normally do, and this ill group takes advantage of this poorly monitored pastural farmers for the distribution of weapons and movement of there men unspoiled throughout the country, there favourite terrain for transportation is through the forest. For this to change, the leadership needs education and awareness and control this farming because how can this people move from the North down to the South unspotted.

No matter how many security recommendations or expert advice are given to many african leaders, I believe most of them already know what needs to be done. The bigger problem is that many simply do not care enough about the safety and welfare of ordinary citizens. You will usually see governments reacting only after a major attack has happened, instead of taking preventive measures. As things stand now, many people across affected regions are living on high alert because they no longer feel fully protected. All this suggestions mentioned will hold no value!! without political will, proper funding and accountability, insecurity will continue. In my opinion, Africa's security problem is not always a lack of solutions it is just a lack of leaders who are genuinely committed to implementing them for the benefit of the people.
The worst and sad part of the whole thing is that, it is the poor and ordinary citizens that end up paying the price for the years of poor planning and delayed action. When security failures such as the ones thriving in Africa has no direct consequences on those who are responsible for it, there’s always little to no pressure to do the needful or take the necessary actions to combat the situation.
Additionally, accountability matters just as much as funding because it takes more than public resources alone to guarantee safety, especially when/if no one is held responsible for how these resources are used.

I agree wirh what you just said, insecurities has been the problem of Nigeria for many years now and noon of the past and present government wants to end it, because the government's official have a hand in what's has been happening in this country. Every one living in this country old and young even foreigners knows that Nigeria government's are playing politics concerning insecurities in our countr. Let ne bring this to our notice, during Goodluck government the opposition parties went and formed this bandits just to spoiled his government government, goodluck was ready to tackle the insecurities  then through US securities. After drawing their map on how to capture those bandits by spraying some chemical that will weaken thos bandits, it's happens that before the US forces arrived those bandits where making use of oxygen oxygen now my question is how did they knew how US force want  to attack them if not for from the government officials? That's to tell that our leaders knows what they're doing, i believe if they want to enf this insecurities they would have done that since, the thing there's the government doesn't care about the welfare of their citizens

In my opinion, Africa's security problem is not always a lack of solutions it is just a lack of leaders who are genuinely committed to implementing them for the benefit of the people.

They are just being ignorant, if not, they know exactly what to do. Our major problem is bad governance, if we have good leaders, providing a solution to the security problems will not be a big deal. I knew that in every sector they are good and bad sets of people. There is full assurance that within the military service, they are true soldiers who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their great nation. But one out of this two, is what is preventing them from carrying out their missions, it is either there is hypocrite in higher rank that is preventing them, or lack of defensive equipments. Government has a lots of roles to play when it comes to tackling the issue of insecurity. Government has to do it part, by providing the necessary equipments, then it will be left for the military to take part and handle the rest. They don't care about the lives of the people who have chosen to protect them leaving their own lives behind. The soldiers are also human like us, and they have people at home waiting for them. See how soldiers are dying like chickens.

Possible Solution to Increasing Insecurity Across Africa

The title to this thread already explain everything in details about what I'm about to discuss, we all know that insurgency is taken over with more prevalence development across the rural areas in sub-Sahara Africa and the other regions in Africa, you can see that what motivated me from writing this thread was gotten from this development news as Mali Bans use of motorcycles outside Cities and I think that if this is been taken into consideration by other countries affected by insecurity, it could possibly mitigate their ability to navigate the remote areas and operate successfully.

Mali has made their decision in this regard and I think one of the most challenging country as well in Africa is also Nigeria and if they could also implement something like this, it may reduce the activities of this insurgent in the rural areas, especially those at the northern states where it is more predominantly experienced, until the military regime in Burkina Faso came in power before there could be a little achievement concerning cm security challenges they face, but Nigerians military are trying their best, only that the politicians are more corrupt and sabotaged every of their plan.

Here are a few pieces of security advice I want to give, who knows this may get to some of the top leaders around the world and could affect them as a solution.

1. Ban the use of motorbikes in rural areas.
2. Implement a night curfew to prevent civilians from being attacked at night.
3. Map out every Forest and mast that is not populated by people and create security defenses on them.
4. Let the military have full power to execute any obstacle without waiting for the last order or commands at war.
5. Form security surveillance as well as use of sophisticated weapons and devices like drones etc.
6. Fortify the military with enough equipment necessary to combat any Security challenge.
7. Read out the informant among the military and make thorough exercise to combat insurgents.
8. Target the sponsors of insurgency across the countries and go after them first before hunting for the hoodlums used.

To be honest here, i know many people has been witness this incident that is showing this different kind of motorcycles in the picture, which happened on the north part of Nigeria and before will could know it, this kind of incident happened south east state and from that moment the govern of that state I'm residing right ban motorcycles of coming or going urban area and for you to access the urban area with a motorcycle, you must register your motorcycle to have the driving permit and you most not carry anyone at the back of the motorcycles to avoid the attention of government.

If paramilitary and military will be able to archive all this security advice that OP has listed above, i think information is what the paramilitary and military needs from the society and with the help of installation of CCTV around all those sensitive areas within the urban areas, i think that will also help the military works and stay ahead of this people.

Delay is dangerous, which is why, out of everything OP has said, I agree more with number 4. When enemies want to strike, they take advantage of every loophole. In a situation where the military cannot make urgent decisions without waiting for a go-ahead from those in political offices, a lot of things will go wrong. The military should be given the power to act as a separate entity of the state, all in the best interest of the state.

It is important that I make it clear that giving the military full autonomy does not mean they will be unaccountable. Of course, they will be accountable to the government which is responsible for ensuring that the military has all the necessary equipment and tools needed to keep the country safe from criminals and terrorists.

Bureaucratic delays are not needed in countries already suffering from insurgency. It is also confirmed that some governments use the military for political purposes. The military is non-partisan and should not be involved in political activities that distract them from their real purpose.

This sounds like an important discussion. Africa needs strong security, needs intelligence ( like Cyber security, Cyber cameras etc), accountable agencies and many others developments. And as you said they should restrict motorcycle in high risk areas. They should implement some policies carefully, that will protect innocent civilians from being punished who use motorcycle for their needs. Wink

Just like the way the European countries are using Ukraine like testing ground to confirm the capability of their weapons, the same way Africa is being seen as a testing ground for insurgency by Western political leaders to exploit oil and other natural resources.
I blame the victims of these war and insurgency because their government are not ready to put an end to most of the atrocities that are happening to their people. In most cases, the government are using insurgency to chase people out of their cities to exploit natural resources that are worth billions of dollars without anyone knowing about it except the politicians.

Community-led security is just the best way, a true security process always starts from the locality or the bottom, through things like organized community groups or networks or what we now have as local vigilante groups who actually know the in and out of a terrain. The people living in the village or street are mostly the ones who notice when a strange person enters the area or when something looks very suspicious. Rather than spending some heavy amount on military operations that will only arrive in some cases when the real damage has been done, we should instead empower and give good funding to the local community watch groups.

Iran suffered the most casualties from weapons used against it by Israel and the US. Ukraine and Russia used similar weapons to fight, and for sure Ukraine suffered the most.

The African leaders have their eyes on the resources of their country. During the political campaign, the purpose of organizing a rally is to recruit voters who will vote for them into positions so they can access those resources.

One of the possible solutions of reducing insecurity in Africa is by pulling people out of poverty, the reason why young persons are getting involved with some of these militia group is the fact that they are being induced with little money and since a lot of them don't have meaningful source of livelihood, they just join this terrorist organization. so by the time this terrorist organization groups them all together and begin to give them some little incentives, you will see that they will start doing The unthinkable. Ordinarily Africa understand the sacredness that comes with life, so killing people due to religious and political reasons has never been an African thing.

You made a good point. You see, poverty has contributed to insecurity in the world, not just in Africa. When there is poverty, people will always want to be rebellious against the government, and if the government is corrupt and not providing good governance, it becomes very incompetent in fighting insecurity.

Another thing is that if a government is compromising with insecurity, it means the government is using the rebels to its own advantage, and that is why it has been unable to do anything. Governments can always defeat insecurity unless they choose to allow it.

Do our leaders think towards this direction, this a good suggestion because, because someone whose mind is occupied with meaningful things that will get them some bucks at the end, will not be thinking how to create fear among those living in the society, Africa is a place where the government do not care how the citizens are coping, the leaders are not ready to finds out the root course of insecurity and even if they know the course, they prefer not to solve the problem, cause they prefer looting through the process of buying weapon for the military and all the security Agencies, the suffering in African is the root course of insecurity, people are joining different gang, to rob, kidnapp people so that ransom can be paid to them, but the government chooses to chase shadows while the problem is still there.

If you leave the root cause of insecurity and go on to address other areas that are less relevant, you are indirectly playing with fire and not ready to face the reality. what happens after you have barned the use of moto cycle only for these guys to devise another means of carrying out their ill act?

Take out the sponsors of these insurgent and you will discover that they will naturally die down. No matter how strong a group of criminals are, they are just as strong as the people that are sponsoring them. take out the sponsors from them and they start fighting themselves and get destroyed with time. Politicizing insecurity is another key issues with lingering security threat. if the insecurity is benefitting the political class, they will continue to fuel it and gain from it in the process.

Vote for the right candidate?! Laughable! Western system of voting and democracy is rigged and bullshit. It has got to be one of the next things to do away with. Democracy has never benefited Africans and it will always remain a system to loot Africans through their Western and colonial caretakers. The three different candidates who are currently lined up to and campaigning for the presidential tickets all do not have the interest of Nigerians fully, one way or the other, they still care so much about the plans of their colonial masters. What's to be done is easy but our Military brigader generals are being bought with money to keep shut. I believe the plans is to leave the average Nigerians in ruins so as not to own nothing.
