If you have 40M Naira right now , would you japa or start a business in Nigeria?

I have a friend who currently has 40 million Naira which he has saved up. So he is considering moving abroad to start a new life but he is still having some kind of doubts. Which is,  whether he should rather use that money to start a business in Nigeria. So these two options are confusing him a lot, even when he decided to ask me for ideas I couldn't give him any answers.

‎The situation of this country is not good, so traveling abroad often has better opportunities in terms of  stability, exposure, security and good way of life. But another thing is not japa means you will be successful , The reason is because loeg there also has its struggle like adaptation, working multiple jobs or shifts, job competition, and higher living costs. And on the other hand  starting a business in Nigeria is also good especially if you planned well. The money can help him to set up a lucrative income base business. but business success is never guarantee, because of the bad economy like, inflation, transportation, insecurity, poor electricity to run the business.

‎So this why he  is confused, This is why I raised a topic to get your contributions or opinions if it is  better to use the money to start a business here  or use it to relocate and start a new life with different opportunities and challenges?

If we all japa, who would stay back to build the society we want, those places we japa to, if her citizens didn't stand to demand for what they have now, do you they would be the way they are today that everybody wants to go.We cannot all leave our fathers land for greener pasture somewhere else, we just need to come together and fix our leadership problems, because that's the problem. If the government no dey do well, we supposed come together and stand on our feet say, you this politicians, you don't mean well for us, so your not going anywhere, that way, we start building our own society.

I want you to understand one thing that our currency is not the one that they are using worldwide so we shouldn't see this 40 million naira to be a very huge amount if you go out of Nigeria. As of now, we are not together in anything. Our brothers and sisters are still fighting one another. They are not yet ready. If they were actually ready, I wouldn't advice him to leave. We are still fighting ourselves based on tribalism and corruption is eating us alive deeply. And sadly, if use said funds to stay in Nigeria when he could have left. He will regret it. Exactly, pure and simple. The leaders are corrupt so they can have more than that and still loot more from Nigerians purse. But with all this, Nigeria needs to wake up and fight for her country. No one will do it for us ooh. Nigeria.

Like the funds go a very long way to japa but on a second thought where I wan japa go? When I fit just locked any places of my choice for Nigeria for here why not just invest wishful but nah thing of choice…well with our current situation for this country right it really a lot and it make someone to japa already but most time we just need to face the bull by it horns..

It so hard to live a comfortable life with such amount in Dubai, even in the UK it take great courage to live there and even bring up a child there…well there are a lot of opportunities their than here..

We shouldn't see 40million as a very huge amount of money that will make us travel abroad to start a living because the policies over there might be too rigid and you can't actually survive there, I understand that Nigeria is insecure and the economy is hard but you should also understand that we enjoy some level of freedom in terms of moment and in overseas you practically pay for everything you use  without boyscotting the rules.

Some people think once you just travel out because you have some amount of money you have made it, without proper investment and planning you can travel out and squander the whole money and be deported back home. So for me if I have or given such amount of money, I will invest here because there's a whole lot of businesses that will fetch one lots of profits if invested into in Nigeria. Nigeria is still a better place to stay.

As much as I don't fancy the idea of going out of the country when there's a slight opening, with the current situation of things in the country, I will certainly jakpa with such amount.

There are several reasons why staying outside the county is always going to be a better option than running business here and still a time like this, it even becomes clearer that traveling out is better. If I had such amount, I will start up something for my dependant here at home and use the remaining to travel out. That way, I'm not going to be too bothered about how they are fairing because I've provided Thier means of survival before leaving. If you travel out and you're Disciplined enough, you will still get back more than that amount soonest.

If you consider hard it is to survive in Nigeria travelling abroad to start up to a new life isn't a wrong plan but he should also know making it in abroad is not always rosy.  The 40 million he has in possession can start up a good business and also secure him a nice apartment in aboard but if I was him I would invest the money in my own country. Nigeria is a good place to start a business you wouldn't be paying much on taxes and shop rents compared to abroad so he should  invest the money in a good business  he will succeed easily in Nigeria if he manage the business very well rather than in abroad.

I have seen people who say they can’t leave this country no matter how much they have in their accounts. While I have also seen people who are looking for half that amount to japa. People d sell their properties, d sell their cars, leaving their good paying jobs to japa, and I come get that huge amount at a go, and I d think of whether to japa or continue staying in a country wey peso no get rest of mind.

Everybody have there personal decisions, there are people who doesn’t want to leave this country, because they feel like when they’ve money it would be better for them to enjoy the money here in Nigeria, but for me that isn’t an option staying in Nigerian when I have such amount, don’t be surprised that money you mentioned( 40 million Naira) you can’t build or buy a house for that amount of money in a well coordinated city.

Personally I would prefer traveling abroad if the opportunity is there for me to travel, but you need to have a purpose for traveling, are you going as a student or as a worker, probably you had a job, you have to also ask yourself about the opportunity in where you’re going, majority of Nigerian youths would want to travel abroad because of lack of opportunities in Nigeria.

If he is to japa, it should come from his instincts and full convinction to leave. It's not just something you just wake up and decide to move. If he really wanted to move, he must have thought about it, ask questions, plan towards it and see the workability. He wouldn't just go over there to stay, he would also do something abroad. All these things have to be settled. For the fact that he is still confused on what to be done means that he hasn't made any tangible preparations as to the traveling.

So, for me, my advice is that he shouldn't be in a rush. The money is his own, sleeping in his account. What I think he should do is to think about it properly, sleep over it and till he comes to a conclusion in his heart on what to do. He can also check out all that is needed to travel abroad. If after all considerations, he can now work with what his heart has choosen to do. The both options are good. Traveling abroad or starting a business here, none is bad. But what matters is what he really wants to do and would find interest and be happy he took such decision. So he should think

To me 40 million is more than enough for me, I will move out of this country, the country is toxic full of wickedness let him travel out and invest in a good business abroad he will not regret it, though their is lesser insecurities in abroad than in Nigeria here, in the next 20 years to come governments yet to come can't finish the fight of insecurity in Nigeria, because they have people in the government training then, who gives them money for feeding and arms , so to tackle the insecurities in Nigeria will take years before the can defeat them all, but I wish our past and present government do something about this before they would have reduced the tension by now.
So travelling outside the country is the best for now, many Nigerian who stays abroad is just because of insecurity and nothing much, they can manage the hardship but the level of killings is much here.

I don't think I will Japa is just preferable for me to start a new business and make sure it is more established since by the time you intend to japa out of country remember our currency is not the same.I want you to understand that our currency is not the same as what others use around the world, therefore 40 million naira should not appear to be a large sum if you travel outside of Nigeria.

Some people have more than this but still want to leave Nigeria, but unlike me, I see this 40 million naira as too much for me to start up a business in Nigeria. One thing I always think of is that we are not going to live in this world forever, and that is what I think about a lot, and it gives me a lot of peace. million Naira today. ‎To be honest your friend needs to sit down well and fully think about the two options properly. Because 40m is not a joke in this economy oo. Does he have a genuine business that he believes in or is he just thinking about it because the money is there? because if he starts a random business with that 40m, that money can disappear in this economy within a blink of an eye. he will have to start from square if he goes to the abroad sef, Because he would have spent almost 60-70% of that money on his paper works (and there's another risk of his visa being denied... really crazy), so he will be left with little amount to fend for himself when he gets there. The ball is in your friend's hand, the best thing he can do is to ask  himself where he sees real growth in the next five years,that answer might be able to guide him better.

Personally i won’t Jakpa, the thing is being successful is not location based, we have very successful people in Nigeria that are leaving a very simple and enjoyable life and affecting their generation positively, we also have lots of people overseas who ain’t doing well, so it’s relatively and completely based on the individual, his skills and knowledge rather than his location.

The aspect of insecurity is not just Nigeria based, as a matter of fact no part of the world is very safe currently, even America is currently facing security issues to the extent certain places movement is restricted, to me if am giving 40m i will invest it into a very good business that am fully knowledgeable about here in Nigeria, a business that am certain of making return profit in 6months time.

One can succeed or fail in any location, locations don’t make people, it’s people that build any place/country, just be skilled in a particular craft and know a good business and good location to pitch the business and you will do exceptionally well irrespective of the country you find yourself, don’t end up being a slave or second class citizen in another man’s land simply because you don’t believe you can make it in your own country.

He shouldn't be confused, because getting confused might likely result in a bad decision he should just decide on one thing and start immediately. Actually both are not bad, but considering the economy of this country now, I think abroad would be the best option than starting a business. 40m sounds like a lot, though it can go a very long way if you have a good business plan. Don't just start a business without a proper knowledge and planning. However, like I said earlier I don't think it's necessary to make a decision for him, he should go through the comments and make a conclusion.
