Is INEC Really Independent In Nigeria?

I am motivated to ask this question because of what have been going on in Nigeria election, and in the electoral body. The INEC body is no longer independent, and are being ordered about by Nigeria politicians instead of standing on their ground as an independent body. Their is no longer trust in the INEC body as they dance to the toon of politicians who square them with money, and make unfaithful promises to them.
This is an issue of great concern in the Nigeria electoral system, and something has to be done in other to solve this electoral problem that is being caused by INEC because is no longer a trusted body.

Right from time I have witnessed most elections in this country it has been like that by last years own was very obvious like the rigging was just something else…well in fact the INEC are not people we are to see has a neutral in next year’s presidential election 2027 and the president is very smart to choose someone he no very well on the sit so it could be a win win for them…

And honestly if something can be done about it we might not have problem towards the next elections….amd also the judicial system has been bought by the government by money and next year’s presidential election same methods was used to rigged the elections i just hope thing change for good one day in the country..

INEC is the major cause of the challenges we are facing as a country because they are bribe into rigging elections to a particular party and candidate and they have kept doing it that's why we don't have any competent leaders because they believe they will buy the votes and get into power, but from what I know as a citizen of Nigeria it's the seating president that appoints an INEC officials to conduct the elections for them so if that's the case then they will continue to work for who have employed them, if there was a way that the officials won't be appointed by any government officials then we would have gotten our votes counts during every elections.

I have never trust INEC before because those people are part of our problem and if there are ways of solving theirs by  appointing someone who is corrupt free then Nigeria will solve her problem of leadership by 50%. The only solution now is for the masses to come out and vote massively for their preferred candidates and if they rig it, then revolution starts.

In Nigeria today there is no sector that can openly boost of being independent now in the country,  they may publicly say they are independent but in there actions we can tell they are dependent on the ruling administration in there mode of operation.  Among all sector in Nigeria today I can boldly say the INEC is the most corrupt sector in Nigeria because over 80 percent of what is affecting the country now is as a result of the evil manipulations if not for that i don't think thos current administration would be given the chance to get into power

It is a thing of disgrace to what INEC has turn into, and they should better change their name from independent electoral commission to dependent electoral commission because they are not independent. The last time we a had free and fair election in Nigeria was on June 12, 1993, the June 12 presidential election was contested by MKO Abiola (SDP) and Bashir Tofa (NRC) and MKO Abiola of (SDP) won the election, but it was abolished by General Sani Abacha.

Ever since then Nigeria has been struggling no free and fair elections anymore till date. Back to your president, well i can be him but if he some reasonable enough he will wash from the 2027 election because he failed Nigeria as a nation. During his Regine, because his no longer our president his Regine is over as far as i am concern, insecurity rate was very high if not over high, pervert was also high, and so on.

Don't allowed the name independent to convince you that Inec is independent because it is not. Inec is answerable to the president direct, infact the president is the one who appoints Inec chairman so it is never independent. In a sane democratic government, the president shouldn't  have been allowed to appoint Inec chairman that's why the presidency is able to influence Inec to do it's bidding by manipulating elections results for it's favour. Inec is the major problem why we are in this mess because all they have been doing is manipulating corrupt leaders into power. We wouldn't have witness the likes of Tinubu, buhari and many corrupt leaders if Inec was truly independent. My dear Inec isn't independent it is answerable directly to Mr president and it's chairman can be removed by the president at Will,such power should have been stripped from the president.

 I dey always tell myself say as long as nah human being dey handle any position, comma must dey. E no easy to dey transparent for this country because them must silence you if you no hold better protection.
INEC nah body wey dey so corrupt and e dey unfortunate say nah them go decide the fate of the masses and not just the votes alone.
At the end of the day we no just need to protest for a change of government, but to also ask for new and honest faces to occupy this positions.

Inec and our judiciary system are the one making this country rubbish because the way wey they they do am e does not concern them. I don't see any independent wey inec be, because ever since they started this democracy they have not shown any credible election before, the government in power is always in control despite they say they're independent but still they still answer to Mr President and Mr President will give them what he want and that is how they will do it. After all is Mr President that appointed them then who is fully Who? the best thing is that they should remove that independent in their name because they are still dependent.

The electoral body in Nigeria has never been independent at any point in time, they have always serve as a tool of manipulation of election results to favor the politicians they give them the highest pay. INEC  is one of the most corrupt institutions in Nigeria and are also one of the major problem in Nigeria. They are mainly there to work for the president,  so they do whatever the president ask them to so, that is why the president of Nigeria always have their ways in every election,  but what do we expect when these people are appointed by the president. I think for this issue to be solved, they should remove the power of appointing and sacking of the INEC chairman from the president,  with that the INEC will be able to work independently without the fear of being sacked by the president.

The government now controls INEC, it is not meant to be so, but this is how far we can see that corruption has eaten up every corners, including the judges, going to court against the current government is more like a waste of time and resources, by the verdict, you will always be wrong whether you are in the wrong or right, INEC is no to be trusted.

I don't know if I will say they are been threatened or they are been force to carry out these act. Yes assuming both bodies could be dissolved in think Nigeria would have been a very good nation, just as mentioned both bodies are the major cause of the problem affecting the country because both have never for once made any profitable decisions for this beloved country Nigeria.
As for democracy,  I don’t think there is anything related to democracy that is practiced in Nigeria because all the characteristics of democracy have never for once be practiced in this administration.

None. You are correct, there is no single public agency, ministry or department within the government today which can boast of being independent in real time as many of these independence we are only exists on paper. How will you claim an organization is independent when the chairman of such organization is being selected by the president of the country and it does not even stayed there, even their allocations are being released by the president instead of it to be able to fund their operations through a diverse mix of private philanthropy, government grants and earned income. Does it mean the organization does not generate its income at all? I understand even with what I mentioned, though source of funding could still in a way influence decisions of the organization but it makes it difficult for such to happen as the interests of the funders can hardly align making it impossible for one single entity like the president or presidency to control their activities.

The real problem of Nigeria is the INEC because they're supposed to be the last hole of a common Nigerian in bringing true change to the Nigerian government. Most times the masses have discovered that the INEC chairman use to get changed towards the election time after their inner chamber meetings. This is why the evil continues repeating itself. I'm among the few believers that one day a true patriotic Nigerian will get into the office of the INEC chairman and things will begin to change.

If you check the last election in 2023, it took only one righteous woman called Professor Nnenna Otti to change the Story of the Abia people from being one of the worst leadership to being among the best leadership. If you ever listened to her interview, you will realise how passionate she was to see a government that works, and election with no malpractices to deliver the people's mandate. A day will still come when the right person will be at the Federal level and the right leaders will emerge.

The people who are supposed to address the issues are the ones making the most greatest mistakes so how do they intend to address those issues. I used to wonder if the INEC are actually the ones conducting the votes or elections, because sometimes a particular candidate will have plenty votes/ voters and you will be expecting that he is going to win the election but only for you to realise at the end of the day that the opponent wins the elections. INEC is part of the major problems that is failing our electoral system.

When I begin to doubt capacity of inec is when the president elect their chairman, i expected that they should elect who will lead them by themselves he shouldn't be an appointment from Mr President. Honestly I disagree with all this settings because the president that appoint him can as well remove him if he did not do what he wants. I don't see inec as an independent body because they are not doing their job very well.

What pains me the most is that inec will successfully select the winner of the election and in that process the court with decide the winner, we can see how incompetent inec is, because if Court will intercept in their judgment then they don't know what they are doing, I think their judgment should be enough seeing they are independent.

While growing up, we were told that we have three arms of government here in Nigeria, namely the Executive, Legislators and the Judiciary. And all three arms were independent of its own to be able to exercise it's duty without being biased. But it's quite unfortunate that with the kind of politics been played now in Nigeria. Because to be honestly speaking, everybody can see that today, it's obvious that the only arm of government that is independent of its affairs is the executive. Whereas both the Judiciary and Legislators have been turn into a tool through which the executive achieve its plans, without being properly examined through checks and balances if it complies with the constitution or not.
So when it comes about the issue of INEC, it's obvious that this body is not independent at all of his operations. Because it's actually the president who appoint who will emerge a the INEC chairman and also approves it's budget for election.

I don witness dat during election, many Nigerians  no dey vote wisely. But our inec dey one of the corrupt wey dey contribute why the country is still struggling with all this challenges wey we dey face for dis country so. Dey should be a proper measure on the corruption that has been happening in the inec, we don also noticed say for every election wey come into the power, dem dey usually put inec in their pocket and continue to turn them to everywhere they like. In addition, even their agents and security personnel that are supervising the voting process in the pulling unit also know how things are going roughly without taking any action just because the people are using the power of the ruling party to provoke dem.
