Edo Shut School Over Security Threat.

Bandits have invaded Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing three persons, including the Vice Principal, Mr. Gani Anifowose, and two others, while abducting some students. According to some residents, the incident happened around 9:45am on Wednesday. The bandits were said to have targeted students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). “The major target of the attack was UBE Iluke Bunu, where students from three communities were sitting for their WAEC examination at the time of the invasion.” “The Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Aharha-Bunu,Mr. Gani Anifowose, was killed alongside two other persons. Three students and several residents were abducted in the attack,” the source said. The Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Hon. (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael, has condemned the attack, describing the incident “as unfortunate, barbaric, and unacceptable”. The Chairman expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who had lost their lives in the attack , assuring that efforts were being made to arrest the culprits. He assured residents of the Local Government’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across all communities within the area. “The Local Government Administration is working closely with relevant security agencies and stakeholders to ensure that lasting measures are put in place to forestall any recurrence of such attacks,” he said. The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement, saying three persons lost their lives in the invasion : Mr. Ganiyu Anifowose, the Vice Principal of UBE Secondary/Primary School, Iluke; Mr. Sunday Jacob Alhassan, aged 70 years; and one Sunday Ayele, aged 6 years. “At about 10:00 a.m., the Command received distress information that a large number of heavily armed bandits, operating on about forty (40) motorcycles, had invaded Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, with the suspected intention of abducting students and other residents of the community. “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Kabba ‘A’ Division, immediately activated a coordinated security response by mobilizing personnel from the Division, alongside operatives of the Police Mobile Force and the Command’s Tactical Teams.

This is a very gruesome attack by the bandit. This is very unfortunate to the affected persons. The issue of insecurity in Nigeria is no longer something new, and it seems is increasing on daily basis, however I feel we should not only wait for government security agencies to handle or tackle the issue of insecurity alone, because even with their presence, there seems to be no remedy, therefore I suggest every local government, and even communities should provide additional security well equiped, and equally take care of their welfare, I believe this will to manage the situation better than leaving insecurity matter in the hands of government alone.

No matter what I will say the move to shut down schools because of the increase in insecurity challenge in Edo state is the best. Na the same thing I dey talk with my brother some time back, this school people dey go I never still see any reason why teachers especially go choose to go teach after the one wey them kidnap children from school and teachers, as if e never do the bandits them cut one of the teacher head wey dey defend the children, like this one na big opportunity to shut down school starting from that day but I still see teachers (secondary school) even lecturers dey advise students to go school and na places them know say no dey safe, so make I ask why people no wan see reasoning?
If them choose to attack students and teachers any need to go the school? We just dey endanger our lives, the school wey everybody dey go now with the current state of the country e get any better thing or place you fit use that result get work wey match wetin you study? Yes oo that is just the best decision, because with the ways things are going even if anything happens the government doesn't care, honestly our government has  really failed us knowing their children studies abroad and are been guarded well while the poor masses suffer is what hurt me the most , sometime I wonder if there will ever be a better Nigeria, because I'm literally tired of all this stories and it's very frustrating and annoying, insecurity has really gotten out of hand ,life first before any other thing.

Everyday we hear of one security issue or the other, it's no longer new to us again, we are only waiting to hear what school has been attacked again, which is very bad for the nation's reputation. The government can not do anything to stop or curb the issue of insecurity in the country, that's because don't really care about the citizens nor do they even have answers to it. What schools in Edo state has done is the right thing. I was even expecting all schools in Nigeria to shut down for now, maybe that will force the government to do something about this insecurity, but my issue is do they really have an idea on how to go about it.

With the level of insecurity in the country and the way Tinubu has paid less concern to the whole issue is appalling because he seems not to have any solution to the problem of insecurity nor even making steps to proffer solutions to the insurgency we are currently experiencing in the country and you might be left to believe that he is sponsoring it himself because how will a sitting President see his people kidnapped and massacre on daily basis and still keep mute without taking any actions to remedy the situation, instead he seeks permission to keep borrowing money.

Tinubu was quick to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State during the power tussles between Nyesom Wike and Sim Fubara because of his personal interest of getting votes in 2027 elections but he can't call for state of emergency now that the lives of the citizens is at stake. Edo State made a good move by shutting down their school because the state is no longer safe, let the president face his fears and confront the terrorist by sending troops to eradicate their camps.

Why I'm pissed with what is happening is that the government is taking the situation of things as politics, if they think that some persons are creating this insecurity I other to rubish Tinubu so that he won't go back second Tenure the I ask why hasn't all these been investigated so that those behind the insecurity will be brought to book, EDO state governor is busy spilling shit, some times I wonder when we will have governors that will prioritize governance than politics, the present government of Nigeria has failed, this is not time for excuses of blame, it time to work and show your score card, these guys are in edo state, it means they are already in Delta state and can strike at anytime, I don't think Tinubu has any excuse to make this time, he is the president of federal Republic of nigeria, commander in chief of the armed forces, I think is time for him to use his power, his powers should not only be felt in suspending democratically elected governor which is a precedent he has set for the future which will come hunting back in the future, Nigerians needs to be secured, he swore and oat to do that, it is his obligations.

In this country now  all public institutions can be shut down because of fear of being attacked by bandits or herdsmen in the country after rumours with visual reels or videos popping up on social media as evidence confirmed every day. Why they will not shut down school when security is not guaranteed in the country anymore.The target of this bandits is mostly the public institutions such as schools and the hospitals and many others, to abduct students and asked for ransom after killing a lot of them.

Their recent attacks where we experience a lots of life loss and families are still nursing the pains but I will advise citizens not to shut down school but set private armed securities like Arsenal is to some high schools like most universities, to keep guarding and protecting every institution in the state and private sectors.

It has become very obvious that Boko karam is still in active display of their agenda, attacking schools and making sure they discourage children from going to school. Look at how their coordinated attack has been, they had to wait during the time when student are seated to write the West African examination before they launched their attack, obviously it means they knew what you are doing, and the sad part to these, is the fact that the principal of the school has been killed, this is more like sending a strong signal of what they actually want. Kogi  is one state in Nigeria that has massive land mass and security such landmass needs the support of the locals, the state government collaborating with the federal government, else these warfare will not be easy to fight.

I am expecting a total shutdown of schools all over the country but it seems the student national organisation of student won't sucumb to it. The reason is because the government don't mind allowing a school strike that will last for years to come to and end when they have an election at hand to prepare for. The government show them that the schools are the most valuable thing that governments will protect that is why they choose to go to that direction, bandit did not know this but the government show them and that is why they have been doing it. This shouldn't be a surprise to us with the way things are going the Bandit serve as an exchange for most of the government officials, the reason behind all this is to clear the trace of the money they are embezzling, because there's a provision in the constitution which says that any emergency that arises they entire fund of the nation to be directed towards that direction to solve the problem. This is why they continue to use that against us since it will favor them.
