The teen was arrested during a traffic stop for speeding, which means he was arrested because he was on high speed that was not permitted. He was later found to be a scammer.

People should learn about bitcoin, crypto, avoiding hack and scam before they buy any coin. See the way two of his victims were scammed among the people that they scammed:

According to court documents, Johnston and his co-conspirators started their crypto scam efforts around January 2024. In February, Johnston tricked a victim into believing that his Google email and Coinbase accounts were compromised, allowing them to steal approximately $41,000 in Ether (ETH).

Less than a month later, Johnston and his co-conspirators posed as Google and Trezor representatives to trick another victim in California into believing that someone was attempting to access their cryptocurrency wallet, allowing them to drain the account of about $13 million in Bitcoin (BTC).

$13 million was known to have been stolen by the scammer and used on a lavish lifestyle.

Avoiding scam is very simple, but it requires you to know about it.

Before investing in crypto the users should learn about the investing procedure thoroughly so they can make profit and save themselves from the fraud , they should know how to protect their funds.

These people you mentioned did not lose their money because the Bitcoin was unsafe they lost because of the scammer  trick them into trusting fake representative and then giving away there access to the accounts ,that is the very common and usual method that most of the criminals and scammers use to make people people fool they just fall for it. People should learn the basic rules before investing and they should not share the private keys to the random call or to the messages and always check information from the official website and apps to protect them.

These days there have been an increase the rate of teenagers engaging in criminal activities. When the desire of am eighteen years boy is to drive Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and hire private jets, it clear that they will engage in crime. I am happy that they were caught and will face the wroth of the law. The victims have learned their lessons the hard way. They should have known that nobody should be granted access to your crypto wallet.

The crypto sector is more interested in steaking, scamming, and wasting than they are with using cryptocurrency mining to solve an important scientific problem. Hopefully Sam Altman will visit his gay lover Sam Bankman in prison.

This is why it's very important to study crypto security especially when you know that you're holding huge amount of Bitcoin. It's surprising to see that someone with such amount of Bitcoin isn't cautious enough to know that anyone claiming to be from Google, Coinbase or any other company and asks for access to their assets should never be granted such request.

Yes we know that scammers are very smart with their approaches but basic verification would definitely prevent many of these attacks. This incident is so bothering to read because I feel that such huge loss could've been avoided if the owner had better security awareness.

Or maybe Bitcoiners should not hold Bitcoin at all. Bitcoiners lack the intelligence to understand that Bitcoin has a mining algorithm that was never designed to advance science, so they are 100 percent inept.

Bitcoin scam is everywhere and because Bitcoin is decentralized, it will be very hard for a scammer to be caught unless extra tracking is being done by the government. There is no way we can know it all but one thing investors need to understand is to make sure that their crypto portfolio does not have access to the internet and that can be an easy trap for any of their victims.

No. People are scammed because they lack intelligence. Bitcoin has a mining algorithm that was never designed to advance science, so Bitcoin attracts the stupidest dipshits imaginable.

They deserve to be in the jail and I see one pattern to all of them, they're living lavishly until they get caught. I guess that's how careless they are and how easy it is to spend money that they don't own. Well done to all involved authorities who's able to release the court docs and the police who arrested him. But I hope that this gives as a sign that people need to be careful where they invest.

Yes. They should be in jail and forced to compute a whole bunch of SHA-256 hashes by hand as a punishment.
