Some time ( not too long ago ) Red hat had an incident whereby Devs are losing their credentials, I don't know if anyone else noticed this incident?

While some people will say that AUR is not the main Arch packages respiratory ( maintained packages) there are so many users who can't even tell the difference.

Attacks and malwares are possible on Linux OS, make sure you understand what you are getting into, this is the only way that you can protect yourself and also every crypto wallets you stored on any Linux OS, atleast understand what you are entrusting your trust to.

Something that's made from scratch for one purpose only ( like hardware wallets ) is always better than something that was made from scratch for many things.

Your informations are of importance because it is not expected that we go for what we don't know much about, so that we can ask our best ability avoid every form of attack that may be targeted on us along the process, but when we fail to understand what is at stake or required of us to do, abuse become inevitable and we may easily fall the hands of this scammers and the introduced to us malwares.

The problem always lies in usage. Windows users download pirated copies to avoid activating Windows or purchasing certain applications. If they were to do the same with Linux, not much would change.

Some Linux distributions are similar to Windows, and if you want to use Windows, you should avoid clicking on or downloading untrusted applications.

Makes sense. Installing applications on a Linux distro can sometimes be tricky as we need to have certain packages for an app to get installed.
In the process of installing those required packages we might get tricked into installing something that might cause trouble to us in the future.
It's always required for us to know what all packages we are installing and what each one do before installing them.
If we are not following this practice then we are to be blamed for our own losses.

But if you don't start using Linux, you will never learn to use it properly.

Some people are just too dumb to handle Linux OS especially those with advanced distros,
Some people are so dumb that they shouldn't even touch a PC (with any OS). Smiley

you installing new things that comes your way can get you malware still.
This can happen on any OS. It's not a Linux issue, it's a user issue.

Attacks and malwares are possible on Linux OS, make sure you understand what you are getting into,
Any tool (OS) must be used correctly; otherwise, misuse can only cause harm. You can either configure OS security yourself or use special OS builds focused on security.

this is the only way that you can protect yourself and also every crypto wallets you stored on any Linux OS,
This is to buy hardware wallet. Smiley

Something that's made from scratch for one purpose only ( like hardware wallets ) is always better than something that was made from scratch for many things.
I think this is not a completely correct comparison of the OS (Linux) with hardware wallet (differ in the tasks perform).

Windows or Linux, it's only operating system and there are scammers around there. It's only there are more scammers target Windows than Linux but at the end people must secure their devices by their practice. Windows or Linux can not secure devices for users, it's same with iOS and Android. Even iOS is better and safer than Android, there are scammers, fake apps that can cause many severe issues for users including money loss.

Generally, people must be careful with their practice, and if they do that well, they are safe on Windows too.

.
When people hear the word ' Linux ' , they believe it's some crazy sh*t made only for Hackers and programmers. For sure , there are distros that looks completely scary Grin to handle  by beginners but there are some distros perfectly designed for normal usage.

Infact, they are creating separate edition in same distros for people who just want it for normal usage and have something similar to Windows (that's for Windows bros) with Av scanner installed. There're  even distros designed specifically for gaming.

The problem  is always in what the user downloads as you've mentioned and I believe once more people start using Linux, the attention will also shift and there we be even more malwares. Verification is also essential, they should verify those software Signatures before installing.

Lastly, I will still advice a cold wallet &a cold storage setup for wallets.

Those who know Linux well won't switch to windows. If it comes to security i think Linux has it best than windows. To download official software we can use APT or DNF don't have to go third-party page to download it. Still if you download crack software, download whatever good thing you saw without thinking about security then you will get in trouble no matter which OS you use.

Amen to that!

Reading this topic, the truth is that anyone might be discouraged from trying Linux, and I don't think that should be anybody's purpose. Of course, avoiding human error is key with this or any other operating system, but while the focus is important perhaps by focusing on the trees we are losing sight of the forest.

Therefore, contrary to what the OP says, maybe the right thing to do is to force yourself a little on Linux, but being realistic and not thinking that only with that you are safe. Isn't that the spirit of this thread?

You're right. Actually, even if these are the same. Maximum users will not compare them while using them because people usually feel more comfortable using whatever they have been familiar with from the beginning. However, when it comes to security precautions, the warning messages in Linux and Windows are quite similar.

For anyone saying that it's the same with using any OS, please that's your own opinion, while growing up many people in my country who trained themselves with computers started with windows OS.

I can say that windows OS is generally what everyone is used to, now that people are been advised that running a crypto wallet on Linux is safer, it's where this topic comes in, Linux is very complicated than windows OS.

Don't say that because it's an OS just like windows then malware can still crawl into it, many have advised others than Linux are less likely to get attacked by malware because they are stronger or better in some way.

Right now it doesn't matter anymore, on windows OS it's users fault and on Linux OS it's also users fault, but Linux is complicated in a way that you won't even know that you just did something stupid, it's a fact.

If anyone knows theyr way around windows OS they should stick with windows OS and not go and start using Linux OS simply because someone said that wallets are safer on Linux.
