Sometimes I think about the long-term future of Bitcoin and I’m curious how others here feel about it.

Bitcoin has already survived a lot: bans, attacks, criticism, bear markets, forks, and all kinds of “Bitcoin is dead” stories. It also has a strong community and a very careful approach to changes, which is probably one of its biggest strengths.

But still, when I look at how fast everything is moving, I do have some doubts from time to time. Quantum computing is slowly progressing, AI is moving insanely fast, surveillance tools are getting stronger, and governments are paying more attention to crypto every year.

With AI, it is already not just about simple chatbots. People are using tools like Claude to build websites, apps, scripts, and other things. Sure, it still needs human editing and checking for now, but it feels like only a matter of time before these tools become much more powerful.

I know Bitcoin can be upgraded if there is a real threat. But I still wonder whether some of these risks should be discussed more seriously before they become urgent.

The future of Bitcoin does not worry me in anyway because for Bitcoin to have survived the past where censorship, criticism and all manners of misinformation about Bitcoin was very strong. Bitcoin will survive any form of attack from anyone which is why I have confidence in the future of Bitcoin. I know that people are afraid of the quantum threat but I believe it will not render Bitcoin useless because Bitcoin will sure adapt. On the Quantum threat, we have discussed about it exhaustively on the forum and your thread is surely not going to be the last about it. It has been discussed one too many times that the topics about it are starting to sound like fud. However, improvement proposals have been made for a transition to post-quantum cryptography before the threat becomes real.

As for most of the other things you mentioned, they are non-issues,. Crypto is already regulated and we cannot control what centralized authorities do, but we can control how we use our coins.

No, the future of bitcoin does not worry me because all what I am expecting is all time high.

Mining can not be centralized more than when there has been mining pools few years ago, but still mining is not centralized the way you think. You can see that many of the mining pools are located not in the same country.

I am not worried about the future of Bitcoin at all. Quantum computers and how it has an effect on Bitcoin has been discussed on the forum go check and read for yourself so you can grab something, Ai and mining centralisation don't worry me because the former will just get in line to be used to make Bitcoin even more seamless while I don't think Bitcoin complete centralisation is possible.
Regulation and privacy has tried so had to be a hindrance especially regulations which threatens the privacy of users but still Bitcoin stands.
For me Bitcoin is part of the future other stuff can arise to even improve the effectiveness of Bitcoin

What you should be worried about is, if these new innovations will push Bitcoin into non-existent or be integrated with the blockchain technology using Bitcoin as a means of interaction within the system, if that could be accomplished, then you shouldn't be worried about it. You should narrow down your post and be specific. You are trying to refer to quantum threat on bitcoin cryptography and it has been discussed alot on the forum. We already have some solutions like the first quantum wallet Qastle and more to come as time goes on. What else should we worry about? Should we worry about Ai predicting someone's key? Or government ban on bitcoin in some countries? Bitcoin will definitely adopt as time goes on, the government cannot influence it no matter how much they have in their reserves, they will only be able to control the coins they own. I'm not really worried about anything as regards bitcoin. I only make sure my coins are safe on a long term base..

Of course it does, because the future is unpredictable and we are dealing with finances here. So far, there is nothing on the horizon which worries me about Bitcoin, thinking on the following few years, but if we think about a longer period of time, then things start getting more uncertain.

What can we expect from Bitcoin in 10 years, for an example? The technological boom we are going to see from now on is huge, as the more developed technology becomes, faster it evolves. The intensity of the technological development we saw on the last 10 years will happen in a shorter period of time from now on.

Take AI as example. In 2023 we started having access to Chat GPT and image generation. In just 3 years, AI is already much more accurate on its tasks, while creating songs and realistic videos. That is a good moment to ask how Bitcoin will adapt itself to this new reality the world is facing.

I am not really worried about bitcoins future over the years it has faced all kinds of attacks criticism ban and negative story yet it has continued to grow and prove people wrong the concerns about quantum computing are understand able but i believe bitcoin will adapt and evolve if that challenge ever become seriou that is why i still have strong faith in Bitcoin and keep accumulating whenever i can with a long term mindset.

What are you talking about, the quantum threat is not about 'disrupting' BTC. It is about the Q-day, when quantum computers would potentially be able to break ECDSA, derive private keys from public keys and steal funds from addresses whose public keys have been exposed through spending.

There is no doubt that the mainstream media have used this information to spread fud and misinformation, probably with the desire to 'force' people to sell their BTC, so it wouldn't be 'stolen'. A great source of debate regarding this threat is when does it potentially become one?

But don't get attached to that as you've said, bitcoin has survive many times with all of the threats and fud that it has been through in the past.

What's more worrying are the people that will be left behind when bitcoin soars high. And that's because they left due to panic and the worry just as now what you're discussing.

If you are concerned about AI development coming to beat Bitcoin, then I have no doubt at all about Bitcoin future because Bitcoin is unique and has the ability to do more all time highs in the future, you can see that lots of people already compare Bitcoin to gold and the fact that Bitcoin does not have an unlimited supply makes it possible for the value to be high. Future of Bitcoin is least of my worries in some dystopian surveillance society. But maybe we soon find out how well it stands up against a forces of a fascist regimes.

Also, i don't really fear power of AI tools in the hands of scammers as much as i fear it in hands of rogue regimes or oligarchs whom AI is made to benefit.

Bitcoin on the other hand is just a protocol that's meaningful for some people, and i doubt it's going to play some essential part in our future dystopia.

Doubting Bitcoin? So far,I'm not. And there's really no need to worry about Bitcoin's future. Stick with it and trust it, and it will last you a long time.

Every technological advancement has its pros and cons, its strengths and weaknesses. We will analyze these developments further in the future. AI is developing rapidly, but several discussions have revealed some things we should be wary of. Be wise, but don't pretend or avoid it. Because AI can be quite beneficial for us if used wisely and purposefully. Not to be used as a tool to replace independence.

What often worries us is the increasingly stringent mining regulations, or even the banning of mining activities in some countries. But, it can't be concluded that it will become more difficult in the future. We still don't know the exact future.

The only worry I have is about the community's values, i.e. if the community sticks long term to principles like censorship resistance.

This looks like some kind of minor issue, but it isn't. As every P2P system, Bitcoin depends on the will or "ideology" of the users.

If the users are okay with introducing censorship for example (e.g. some form of blacklists, like some stablecoins have), then Bitcoin has probably a bleak future ahead. It could become a purely speculative tool and eventually have a final crash.

But if the community sticks to decentralization and censorship resistance, Bitcoin could really become big.

Maybe the BIP-110 attack is a test. The likelihood it gets approved is close to 0%, but if it really gets siginificant traction (let's say 20% of the blocks), then the community should be very wary of possible follow-up attacks.

Bitcoin source code and that being open source, probably first thing being fed into an LLM yet so far there is nothing happened.

You are worried because lately AI has been used for negative things such as cybercrime and exploiting a loop hole, but every coin has two side, it can also be used for security auditing.

Honestly, nobody will know what future holds, we can only see what will happen in the future but I'm not worrying about anything related to Bitcoin.

I am not worried but rather concerned. There is increasing centralisation driven by ETFs and other products that we initially thought would send the price of Bitcoin through the roof, but that hasn’t been the case. We’ll have to see what happens for the rest of the cycle, but I browse other forums and the general feeling is that Bitcoin’s most profitable days are behind us, which is why people are investing in other, trendier things like AI or other tech companies. So, in the end, we have less decentralisation than ever and a price that’s less buoyant than ever. I’m concerned that this trend will continue to intensify in the future.

I share your view on this. The potential of Bitcoin is undeniable, but I also think it will not change anything in the current financial system or take on any truly essential role in our economy.
Even if bitcoin continues to grow and achieve a larger market cap, most day to day economic activity will still be driven by fiat and the banking system.

Bitcoin will remain an alternative option for a specific group of people rather than becoming the foundation of the financial system or playing a central role in the global economy.

All these are things we can not completely look away as though they are nothing and for some of them like the issue that bothers on regulation, it has long been going on and yet bitcoin has still survived through it become bitcoin stands on a world of it own. does the future of bitcoin depends on these things? i doubt. believe it that more technologies will keep coming up and some old ones will with time tend to the part of becoming obsolete and though bitcoin seems to stand on a world of it own, we can't factor out some worse case scenario which doesn't change the fact that everything is subject to time and circumstances.

as long as bitcoin remains what it is and don't bend towards being too regulated, all these will continue to be around and bitcoin will still remain strong.

I am not worry the long-term future of Bitcoin and not curious too big and just flow as water continuing my accumulation. I do that because I only the amount that I can afford so that is okay to me. Maybe you will see the development of AI better than today but if you are worry with that, you might difficult to adapt to the current situation because you are just worry without thinks what you can do. Bitcoin have so many good people inside the project and will make sure Bitcoin still running on the right track.
