Does the future of bitcoin worry you?

Sometimes I think about the long-term future of Bitcoin and I’m curious how others here feel about it.

Why burden yourself with thoughts about something you can't influence in the future?

Bitcoin has already survived a lot: bans, attacks, criticism, bear markets, forks, and all kinds of “Bitcoin is dead” stories. It also has a strong community and a very careful approach to changes, which is probably one of its biggest strengths.

This means that bitcoin is capable of surviving even more.

But still, when I look at how fast everything is moving, I do have some doubts from time to time. Quantum computing is slowly progressing, AI is moving insanely fast, surveillance tools are getting stronger, and governments are paying more attention to crypto every year.

There will always be "problems" around bitcoin, but I'm sure the BTC-community will cope with it.

With AI, it is already not just about simple chatbots. People are using tools like Claude to build websites, apps, scripts, and other things. Sure, it still needs human editing and checking for now, but it feels like only a matter of time before these tools become much more powerful.

More powerful for what? To "break" bitcoin?

I know Bitcoin can be upgraded if there is a real threat. But I still wonder whether some of these risks should be discussed more seriously before they become urgent.

So, does the future of Bitcoin worry you at all?

It inspires me.

What will worrying about this gain you? You'll only deprive yourself of peace.

Of course, bitcoin will adapt to any external influences. That's the point of "survival".

I don’t have a large amount of Bitcoin. I’m not overly worried; right now I have and use Bitcoin. I guess that’s enough, even though this discussion isn’t the first time we’ve heard it. 
Anyway, technology keeps evolving, and we just go along with it. There’s no need to be too worried about a future that might disrupt your life.

I am not worry the long-term future of Bitcoin and not curious too big and just flow as water continuing my accumulation. I do that because I only the amount that I can afford so that is okay to me. Maybe you will see the development of AI better than today but if you are worry with that, you might difficult to adapt to the current situation because you are just worry without thinks what you can do. Bitcoin have so many good people inside the project and will make sure Bitcoin still running on the right track.

I agree. If you only invest what you can afford, it's much easier to ignore the noise. AI will change a lot of things, but Bitcoin has been through plenty of challenges already.

What worries me is bitcoin being too much centralized in the hands of a few. Whether it's big institutions, companies, exchanges, ETFs, or genocidal orange maniacs with ties to pedophiles doesn't matter. You don't want that. Power-hungry, Wall Street-connected type of individuals can collude and if they possess a lot of bitcoin, then they can manipulate the price in both directions if it suits them.

I don't think Quantum Computing is that big of a threat yet. It's a great way to scare people but nothing more than that. You won't just wake up one morning and notice that your bitcoin got stolen by a QC.

Sometimes I think about the long-term future of Bitcoin and I’m curious how others here feel about it.

The beauty of Bitcoin is that it is all about a decentralized network and this does not have to be a decision to be made by any central authority to determine it existence use or any form of adoption by any country, bitcoin has come to stay and everything about it is printing out to the freedom every one of us required in financial economy, bitcoin has survived every form of attack it passed through and there is nothing that good hinder it from progressing by people's decision to always make use of it for their own personal benefits.

The only worry I have is about the community's values, i.e. if the community sticks long term to principles like censorship resistance.

This looks like some kind of minor issue, but it isn't. As every P2P system, Bitcoin depends on the will or "ideology" of the users.

If the users are okay with introducing censorship for example (e.g. some form of blacklists, like some stablecoins have), then Bitcoin has probably a bleak future ahead. It could become a purely speculative tool and eventually have a final crash.

But if the community sticks to decentralization and censorship resistance, Bitcoin could really become big.

Maybe the BIP-110 attack is a test. The likelihood it gets approved is close to 0%, but if it really gets siginificant traction (let's say 20% of the blocks), then the community should be very wary of possible follow-up attacks.

It is probably a question of individual experience, but content-related issues may not be as relevant as financial or transactional issues. That is why I don't know how relevant a BIP-110 attack would really be in regards to predicting bitcoin's future.

If there will ever be a centralized digital currency introduced by the likes of Facebook and users find out about data leaks or get shutdown for whatever reasons from making payments, I think that could be a moment when potential users or investors draw the right conclusions about bitcoin.

But when you see how reckless people are about information on social networks, how naively they think the information they get to read is not subject to some political agenda, or the fotos and other information they voluntarily share, I don't really know how important P2P networks are to the vast majority.

They need to be aware of the disadvantages of centralized networks and for most people that happens through their own experiences. This could then actually boil down to centralized entities making big mistakes like data abuse, data leaks and actual censorship and then people get angry and look for alternatives.

I can imagine that Chinese people were so hyped about bitcoin because they made their experiences with services like WeChat and WeChat Payments. They know what centralization can bring about and are more aware about it I guess, but this is an assumption from what I read or see in documentaries, I have no statistics at hand about how users get censored and excluded from payments if they don't abide the law, misbehave or act against the rules of the platform they use.

I am not worry about the future of bitcoin and and no tool you have mentioned or yet to mention and manufacture can be as intelligence as human. Every tool created my man to help him do or more task can't be knowledgeable than the man. I can give you an example of an Indian Movie called (Robot). When you watch that movie, you will understand that the future is not threatened. Person like me, I am not afraid of anything in the future about bitcoin.

To be honest, one of my concerns is that there may come a time when someone discovers a method to crack Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency seed phrases. If that ever becomes possible on a large scale, it could create chaos across the entire crypto market, leading to massive losses and a serious crisis of confidence. It may be far off, but it's something I can't completely rule out.

This is not impossible as computer upgrades are happening very fast.

I've never worried about Bitcoin's future because it's been through tougher times than this, and I believe it will continue to weather these challenges by adapting and persevering, with the support of a community that continues to keep it functioning as an open, decentralized, and secure network. Therefore, Bitcoin will survive and, in fact, will be increasingly adopted by more people in the future, as it has proven itself to be resilient to this day.

I am not worried about the future of bitcoin, not at all, there are other important things to worry about, so no time to worry over something I have no control over or whatsoever..

And this is not just about control but more about being confident that future of finance actually belongs to bitcoin and the cryptocurrency ecosystem at large..
I am not worried about quantum computer, I am not worry about privacy and every things seen as a threat that you mentioned because non of this will stop bitcoin from existing, not even the government with their bans and restrictions, as we have seen many of them try in the past but failed woefully, so I think bitcoin is here to stay there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

There's no need for us to worry, though, because we have a lot of experienced people developers who are BTC enthusiast than us, and they will surely work on every technical challenge BTC experiences. However, we also need to play our part by making the network stronger and also prioritize self custody.

No. We have no control over those things so you don't have to worry about it and that's why I don't. These resources, innovation and anything that we see through the help of technology will be nice and we have to embrace and accept it. With the AI, I think that it'll mainly more into bitcoin instead of fiat. I'm not so sure about that but it's best not to put things and matters in our heads while they're not here yet. Don't put pressure to ourselves when we truly have no control over it. Right?

Because you are discussing with people that already believe in Bitcoin, I mean core Bitcoiners, of course you know the challenges Bitcoin has faced in the past, the government has tried all the could to be in control of Bitcoin so that decentralized nature will be conquered but nothing of such was achieved, what they now did was to start making it their national reserve although countries that understands the potential, for me, I have nothing to worry about because Bitcoin has come to stay.

Of all these "threats" you mentioned, the only real threat to consider is the quantum computers, but we are still very far from that happening, so it is already considered part of the FUD.
If a powerful quantum computer happens to become real, Bitcoin is not the only important asset that's going to be affected, there are a lot more than that, but I don't think we actually let that happen. There will be upgrades expected to counter quantum computing.
Now, if you still doubt it, then refer back to what you said: "Bitcoin has survived a lot of 'Bitcoin is dead stories', right?

The only thing you should worry about right now is whether you have enough bags once Bitcoin reaches unimaginable heights in the future.

I cannot tell you what Bitcoin's future will look like because I do not have a crystal ball to see the future. But there is one thing I can say: those who are still here at this point have strong conviction in Bitcoin, including myself. And it is very likely that those who still doubt Bitcoin and refuse to invest in it today will regret that decision even more in the future.

To be fair, anything can happen, but that is true for every asset and investment, not just Bitcoin. However, most of those risk are beyond our control. So why spend so much time worrying about things that nobody can predict or change? Instead, focus on the present.

The future of Bitcoin does not worry me in anyway because for Bitcoin to have survived the past where censorship, criticism and all manners of misinformation about Bitcoin was very strong. Bitcoin will survive any form of attack from anyone which is why I have confidence in the future of Bitcoin. I know that people are afraid of the quantum threat but I believe it will not render Bitcoin useless because Bitcoin will sure adapt. Because I believe in the future of Bitcoin, I have been actively accumulating Bitcoin and holding for the future.

Same to me,because am just focusing on how to be getting profit in bitcoin, since we can’t predict the future we should just learn how to manage our funds and know how to invest and get profit. We all always think about long term investment because that is what will surly give you profit in bitcoin.

So anytime I think about the future I will always just think that the price of bitcoin will be more higher and if we didn’t invest now we can lose huge profits when the price start to pump deep. So let just think about present better because we can’t predict how the bitcoin future will be or in will pump or decrease so we should just do what will works for us better.

Quantum computing is probably the only long-term concern I take seriously. The good thing is that Bitcoin can evolve when needed. If the threat becomes real, preparations can begin long before it's too late.

After all, Bitcoin's history has been one of adapting to challenges rather than being defeated by them.

It will be better and more useful to you if you stop worrying and start using the opportunities you see now around Bitcoin, and as it has to do with quantum computers, it has been discussed severally here how you should not have much to worry about them affecting Bitcoin and if there has been any, i believe by now it wouldn't have been news anymore as a lot of institutions and big individuals who are heavily invested would have known of it enough to trigger the warnings, it would have also be seen in their investment approach after the discovery.

Regulation is the very valid fear i see worth bothering about because even till this time there are still many places where the issue of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency has not been given the approval or adoption that it needs, thereby making it illegal in some regions and for some others who are trying to rule out adoptions in the favour of Bitcoin, they are also seeing to rolling out stringent regulations to it's usage around those regions, there are fears that in the future there may be regulations that may threaten the decentralized nature of Bitcoin and affect privacy in a way. This is the only biggest fear or future concern i can have about Bitcoin at this time.
